Justin Johnson is a rare gem in the world of guitarists, an artist whose mastery of the instrument transcends genres and expectations. Known for his unique approach to blues, roots, and Americana, Johnson’s playing is a seamless blend of technical prowess and raw emotion, with an ability to make even the simplest melodies resonate deeply with his audience. One of the most remarkable aspects of Justin Johnson’s artistry is his profound connection to the history of the guitar. His repertoire spans a variety of instruments, from the traditional six-string to cigar box guitars, resonators, lap steels, and even shovel guitars. Each of these instruments, in Johnson’s hands, becomes a vehicle for storytelling, evoking the rich heritage of American roots music. His dedication to preserving this heritage is not just about playing notes-it’s about channeling the spirit of the past into the present, creating a sound that is both timeless and fresh. Johnson's technical ability is astounding. Whether fingerpicking intricate blues patterns or playing slide guitar with soul-stirring precision, he navigates the fretboard with an ease that speaks of countless hours of dedication. His playing is clean, yet full of character, never losing the emotional depth that makes blues music so captivating. He manages to combine complex techniques with a deep groove, creating music that is both intellectually stimulating and rhythmically compelling. However, what truly sets Justin Johnson apart is his ability to evoke emotion. Listening to his music feels like an intimate conversation, one where every note carries meaning. His phrasing is impeccable-sometimes delicate and subtle, other times bold and fiery, always perfectly suited to the mood of the piece. His performances aren’t just about showing off technical skill; they are about creating an emotional experience for the listener. Whether he's playing a haunting Delta blues melody or an upbeat country-inspired tune, Johnson’s passion is palpable. His versatility is another defining feature. While Johnson is often categorized as a blues guitarist, his music is a fusion of various genres, including rock, folk, jazz, and even classical influences. This genre-blending allows him to create a sound that feels familiar yet innovative, drawing in listeners from all musical backgrounds. His ability to move effortlessly between different styles is a testament to his deep understanding of music and his fearless approach to composition. Beyond his impressive musicianship, Justin Johnson is also a passionate educator. Through his online tutorials and workshops, he shares his knowledge and techniques with a global audience, making his style accessible to players of all levels. His teaching is characterized by the same generosity and warmth that defines his performances, making him not only a gifted player but also a mentor to aspiring musicians. Justin Johnson is a guitarist whose talent, versatility, and deep connection to the roots of American music make him one of the most compelling musicians of his generation. His ability to blend tradition with innovation, coupled with his emotional expressiveness, ensures that his music resonates with a wide audience. Whether performing live or recording in the studio, Johnson consistently delivers performances that are as technically impressive as they are soulfully moving. He is not just a master of the guitar; he is a true artist, capable of transforming simple strings and wood into a medium for profound expression. www.candiano.com
The amazing part about this style of music is that everything he is doing on the guitar is so simple-no hard cords no crazy strumming patterns- there are very few people who could actually "play" this style of music just so much soul and feel in it.
JUSTIN, YOU ARE THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER I HAVE EVER HEARD AND I'M 68 YEARS OLD. THE MUSIC SOUNDS GREAT MAN, KEEP IT UP. I REALLY ENJOY THE VIDEOS. THANK YOU.

Ill never forget seeing Justin at the Market in York Pa. I come strolling through and there he is. lol.. What a day! I would literally cut a finger off (Right hand) to have him in my project.
As a visual artist inspired by music, I have to say your colour palette in these videos is as refined as the playing... the warm browns against the cool turquoise... it's consistent to the reflections on the resonator guitar metal and the empty part of the whiskey bottle and the piano board at back... tasteful on every level, well done!
Man, I've seen and played with some smooth cats in my day, but you're about the smoothest I've ever witnessed! Thank you for putting it out there for the rest of us to enjoy!
I can practically hear the cicadas droning, a rumbling, 76' chevy with a broken muffler off in the distance, see a fat, handle-bar mustachioed, white-but-red-faced sherriff snoozing in his patrol car (which still has one of those police lights that you have to manually put in place), and a few buzzards flying over the small lake that is stagnant, covered in algae and home to several large bullfrogs that croak deep into the night. The south is a strange place, man.
Sounds about right, and I might be showing my age...but the motor sound is a flathead ford. Engines just don't sound right with pushrods and rocker arms.
South east Iowa once you get away from Iowa's excuses of cities. I live in a "city" of 30,000 people and have seen horses on the roads and people's pigs getting loose in town. And yes we have electricity. Lol
Leather holsters, dusty saloons, tumble weeds, the clink of cowboy boot spurs, dimly lit bar rooms filled with cigar smoke, rattlesnake boots, scantily clad vixens, ripples in the horizon from the summer heat, and the delicious taste of southern whisky....
Me,a pirogue, and never ending black water bayou with these tunes in my mind, and gators as a reminder,Im not the top of the food chain in their turf. Love the bayou.
"He said, "Drifter, can ya make folks cry when you play and sing? Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues? Can you bend them guitar strings?" He said, "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside?" Yes, Yes you can man.
Fantastic playing Justin. Your playing abilities are endless. Yes, I'm sure that you have God given talent, but I'm also sure that you practice and play a lot too. Keep playing and I'll keep listening 😊.
I am a seaman on a ship now off the West African coast. I've been away for more than 4 months and looks like I'll be here for the next 3. You know, the pandemic shit. Anyway, someone has to move stuff around the globe. But lots of hard working days, stress, pressure, dangers and very long lonely nights. This music just brings peace and keeps me pushing thru. Love your work, it helps a lot🍺
By god one of my favorite artists since 6th grade, I’ve been listening for the last even years and your music never gets old, keep up the good work Justin with them blues!!
How in the heck did I just discover Justin Johnson? I've been a blues fan and half-assed guitarist for nearly 50 years. Just glad I did. Thanks, man! You've got a new fan.

Well played, I have listened to others who say vibrato should be used occasionally but this piece came across well so I have been trying to get some of your licks in open D and get the fingers fingers moving while doing vibrato thanks for posting video and tuning.
It's a bit early for me, but turns out this goes well with coffee, too. Actually, Mr. Johnson's playing would probably be OK with water. I've yet to hear him play anything I didn't want to hear more of.
Woke up this morning in New Orleans. Business trip. Hotel is literally on the Mississippi River. Barges and ships transiting the muddy waters are silhouettes with the sunrise behind them. Cool breeze. Rolled over and found this song.
It's so sad how this music isn't anywhere near as appreciated as it used it be, people that play like you deserve the HOF, true talent my friend, and a beautiful guitar as well
I just poured some of my whiskey into the dog's bowl, now he's got a slide on his tail, wagging it up on my guitar. Might be all the whiskey, but we might have something here.
I used to have a dog that liked whisky.. but only scotch, single malt, and straight up... Let him sniff anything else and he'd turn his nose up and walk off...
Could listen to this musician GOD all day long, as a guitaar beginner i can only imagine in my wildest dreams, how difficult these songs must be to master..AMAZING..yeahhhhh rock'n roll

Sometimes I think that you are channeling Robert Johnson, Justin. Have you been down to the crossroads lately? Listening and watching again. So nice that I had to watch it twice.
Can listen the whole day Mr.J. It's for me a masterpiece all your great sharings/ video's. Just like a Musical Heavenly meditation. I am working in the Intensive care. So simple and yet so few can even do it, let alone do it this well.
I feel like this is the style I want to learn now. I really really love the open tunings, slide and fingerpicking
The beauty of knowing classical guitar, -picking technique & your neck, fretts." Chords" are finger placement on certain notes/strings/frets
It’s like Hendrix said. Something like ‘the music is in the notes you don’t play’ or something similar.
Can all we all appreciate the fact that when he took a sip of whiskey, he never stopped playing.
There’s a sip and then there’s a SIP! A man after my own heart. Darlington, South Carolina
Absolutely. Man doesn't miss a beat in the entire track.
Bad ass
This man is a musical genius. I've spent my whole Saturday morning listening to his music. Food for the soul..
hes incredibly musically talented but hes in no way a genius. this is as classic as it gets. done a thousand times, usually never this good though.
My comment is based on all the music I've heard him play. Not just this one song. Cool story though.

I can hear the soft whoosh of the wind, desert crickets singing in background, coyotes yelping and a buzzard calling down from the cloudless sky.
Alongside the amazing music, I noticed the way the colors of the guitar matched his clothes. great cinematography.
