This is some fine music; however, this illustration is extraordinary. I lived in Memphis back in the early 60’s, a different US back then. I used to watch the men and women pick cotton, eight or nine pickers, pulling long white sacks, slowly making their way through a thousand acres of cotton. The sun beat down, their sacks got heavier with every cotton handful and the cotton was pokey, hard on their bare hands. I was little and played in between the rows. I think that if these musicians had seen that, felt that…well, even as a little guy my heart hurt for them. Ray Charles once said, “Find the soul of the song. Give that”. Whew, he was sooo right.
King of the shuffle and those treble filled licks….the base sax really fills in the back nicely. If you are a student of The Great Man, you could not pick a better Albert King song…
