Im a small time cattle farmer. My dad snd I have an 80 acre farm in the high mountains of WV. To see such a large operation running so smoothly is impressive. Considering we just baled around 100 4x5 rolls for first cut. Were going to get a second cut but third is left for the cattle to graze this fall yo prolong the days before feeding hay. Keep up the good work. It’s impressive.
It is nice to see a family farm in operation. You are the lifeblood of America. Not corporate farms owned by billionaires. When I was young we milked by hand and loaded smaller bales into the hay mow. Enjoyed the video.

I really like the look at the Arcusins; they look a lot simpler than the Bale Barons and Bandits. Your system with the balers, rakes, and bale lifts works fantastic with the labor you've got.
I'm new to farming and have been in the game for just under two years. Done my first season of bales and finished today. Done 1413 bales cut and moved in two days and I hated Evey minute I couldn't imagine 10,000 a day!!!! Good bloody job cobba! 🇦🇺
Couple years back I got a opportunity to spend a summer on a hay farm in Middleburg NY trough my AG high school in NYC, and it has to be the best experience of my life so far. It’s very hard work and very labor intensive, and because hay baling has so many moving parts a lot of troubleshooting. I earned so much respect for farmers. Love the video brought back good memories
Y'all make putting up hay look easy. We use a sickle bar mower and a John Deere bar rake. Stacking is all done by hand. Sweet content man! Earned yourself another subscriber!
I used a sickle bar mower up until 6 or 7 years ago. I had a 7 ft 451 New Holland mower . I could mow with it about as fast as I can with my dis mower except when the hay is wet (dew) or to thick. I have much less down time with the dis mower.
Great video. Can't believe that we've gone from kicker bailing (w/ younger me in the wagon stacking) to drop bailing as the most efficient way to handle hay. But boy do you get it in the barn fast! I miss the old days but you seem to do it right. Keep the videos coming. I'm subscribing to your channel.

The 1970s kid in me is envious of the bale accumulators and grapples you guys have to move around a couple dozen bales at a time. Stacking in a pole barn vs running up an elevator into a 900deg hip barn looks pleasant too. Great process you've got -- getting the hay in before the rain.
Brings back memories of baling our north 40. Course we used a jay wagon. And me and my brother Donnie were throwing hay on the wagon. While dad and Michelle stacked. My mom drives the tractor... I swear that day I vowed to never mess with hay again. Course if you were to call me to come up and help I'd make the journey . Certified CDL driver. And if you wanted to research me to operate equipment I'm game... just gimme a shout.

After being an Australian farmer many moons ago, I feel for the operators working being annoyed by the commentator. Farming in Australia broke my uncle whome is now deceased due to drought lasting 5 seasons. I enjoy watching you guys young and old operating new technology getting the jobs done. As a boy when baling time came it was all hands and very little machinery and the young men in the area would go from farm to farm to help out, all small square bales as they had to be man handled. I don't think we had large square or round bales then and no one had the equipment to handle them anyway.

Awesome. We have to clamp our bundles from the sides, to hold all the bales in the bundle. We tried hooks from the top like you, but the bundles kept falling apart. We run 3 strings/knotters on our very early model c14.

Great job. I don't know the names of the items......but with a little work.....the machine that bails the hay can also pull the machine that stacks them into larger bundles.....then you are doing twice the work with one man/tractor ...............then have the truck with trailer follow the machine that picks them up to load on trailer......the truck can run ahead of machine and pull across in front.....he loads......then blows horn......truck with trailer......runs up a few bailes.....and turns back across and machine loads................this way he never has to deal with them twice...... It sounds more efficient in my head.
Interesting video! Small bales must still be popular in the US as there are a lot of small bales made there on RUclips. Here in the uk most farms use round or big square balers. They look like a lot of hard work to me 🥵🥵
See if my hay baling went like this I might actually enjoy it. But had every issue with my baler and tractor this year. Ended up towing the baler behind the JD4640 and took a month to do 110 rounds
First time viewing. You have a great operation. I also do hay on a much smaller scale . I round roll the bales with a 4x5 ft mega wide 458 John Deere baler. And my son has a 5X5 mega wide 558 JD baler. I would like to know your thoughts about the Massey Ferguson tractors verses the John Deere tractors. How long have you been running both brands. I grew up with Massey Ferguson in the 1960's tru the 90's from the 100 series to 400 series. My oldest brother still has a 475 Massey Ferguson and another brother has a 450MF. Me and my son have John Deere's a 6125 and a 5320 and a 1040 JD and I have a 539 IMT tractor. I am about to be in the market to buying another tractor about a 80 to 90 hp cab. I be using it pulling the baler and Bushhogging. I just haven't been around the newer Massey Ferguson. I will probably buy a good used low hr tractor between 30 to 40 thousand dollars . I like the older 5425 or 5525 John Deere if I buy a Deere that what it will be . But I am interested in the Massey Ferguson 80 to 90 hp . How dependable are the last couple of generations of Massey Ferguson? Ya'll doing a fantastic job putting up hay . Back in the day we had to do it by hand .
Interested in what the small bales are used for ? Horses? , in UK every one went to round or big square bales then some realized that there was more mony in small bales , so would bale field with large bales and then in winter rebale to small ones and bundle like you do.
If you get the chance to run a Marcrest bale baron TAKE IT. I’ve run both multipacks and bale barons and I love the bale barons. They are a lot simpler to run.

Afternoon Miller do you do any consulting ? reason why I ask we bought a horse hospital (farm) and would like to keep it a farm and turn the 32 paddocks into hay fields. I would like to know what equipment I should buy so that I do not have to hand jack the bails. basically what you do but in a smaller scale .
Where you the middle or the youngest child in your family.it’s usally the youngest gets sent in,it works on last one born is least wanted..LOL.well was for me.
Is there a big reason for the small bails , then wrapping a bunch of small bails into one bigger bail, over just using a big bailer and reduce the amount of handling??

Oh Yes, absolutely. Could see differences of $100/ton + many years for the same hay. If you factor that in over abuncha acres we believe it pencils out
I grew up farming in the Midwest and didn't do much hay but my uncle was a ford white and new holland dealer and we had all new holland hay equipment including a bale wagon then 30 years later I moved to AZ and worked for deere dealer and then the largest custom hay baler in the state and we ran 12 new holland bale wagons for square and big square bales ! Looks like you guys could save some time and machine expense with a couple dale wagons ??
We like to see 5 healthy years out of a nice alfalfa/grass mix before the ground probably needs rotated before coming back into alfalfa or interseeding more grass into it. Our grass fields last 7,8,9 years as long as native grasses don't start to take over. When we say a timothy or orchardgrass, we like to be confident it is those grasses. We try to NEVER touch the fields wet
@@FarmingInsider Not to be nosy but what is your small bales selling for? Last summer here in the north east of Pennsylvania there were farmers advertising putting hay in your barn for $2.50 a bale. I would rather just mow it and leave it on the ground for that. Luckily I held mine back until now when the price is up to $4.50. Last year it only brought $3.50 in February

We had to put more claws on our grapples before it starting working really well. There is basically a claw in each bale on the top

We run a 15 bale accumulator and a 15 bale grab. Works pretty well.

Yep! We sell primarily to the horse and stable market. We do some rebaling in the winter as well to keep up with demands

Me and my Dad always used to make 90 lbs bales to save time in the field picking them up. They were around 4 foot long.

With such a large hay operation, how often do you reseed or cultivate the fields?
We like to see 5 healthy years out of a nice alfalfa/grass mix before the ground probably needs rotated before coming back into alfalfa or interseeding more grass into it. Our grass fields last 7,8,9 years as long as native grasses don't start to take over. When we say a timothy or orchardgrass, we like to be confident it is those grasses. We try to NEVER touch the fields wet
@@FarmingInsider Not to be nosy but what is your small bales selling for? Last summer here in the north east of Pennsylvania there were farmers advertising putting hay in your barn for $2.50 a bale. I would rather just mow it and leave it on the ground for that. Luckily I held mine back until now when the price is up to $4.50. Last year it only brought $3.50 in February

What are the present advantages with your present equipment format.

none, other wise they would never get it done.
Ben is right, also if the field is at ALL a little damp the trailers don't leave the head lands
Do they make a bundle carrier for the rear of the Massey that would cut the trips to the headland in half
We have an entire change for next year! I will post a video soon of how we did it with straw. That is a great idea tho
