1:50 my director was playing this song on his speaker to see if people would like it, and everyone was laid back and thought the song could be over, then the note came and they jolted back awake, it was so funny
I'm currently a senior in High School, and the other day I found a scrap of this sheet music in my band's library. I read the title and the name sounded very familiar, however I could not begin to tell you how the piece goes. Now I listen to this piece on RUclips and all the memories come flooding back in. When I was a freshman, I joined band, and hardly knew anything about music compared to what I do now. I now remember that we played this piece my freshman year with our old band director. I so wish I could go back to those times and play those amazing pieces he picked out for us with the knowledge (and instrument bc I switched) I have now.
I remember playing this my 8th grade year... I had the crash cymbals (y'know, that one eight-note at the beginning of the Allegro section lol). Still, this was the first piece I ever played in Symphonic Band, and I'll never forget it.
I played this back in 2007 or something in band. It just got stuck in my head out of nowhere today so I had to google "Cumberland band song" .... and here I am now. LOL
This music isn’t that hard I played clarinet for soon 2 years but didn’t even play most of my first year and practiced this song like a couple times and in a week I could play it all it’s really not hard
@@kolbycaudle2255 oh it was absolutely amazing, we received Excellent in playing and superior in sight reading. The piece however, was phenomenal. Really good balance and intonation, it was wonderful
This year (and last, hopefully not next years but it's cool to be the only one too) is the same for me as well. And with my band being more of a big ensemble it's been really fun playing out so far.
Freshamn year before quarantine I was in band and played the bari sax. This was one of the songs that we played and me and my friend that played the timpani behind me liked to call it the cucumber song. This was one of my favorite songs to play and listening to it again after years of not hearing it brings up such happy memories and feelings.
Trombone 1 player here. This song is SO in my head but the melodies absolutely catchy. I like the B section of the fast part because it doesn't rely on too much rhythms but is still is highly danceable
After playing the song I see why it’s a grade 4. We played it our county honor band. Our conductor was Patrick Sheridan. It’s a great piece but, some the of the rhythms and articulations were slightly challenging. And the G’s at the beginning of the euphonium part were kinda tricky. After going back and looking at it, it seems pretty easy.
That's actually ironic, so am I! My band is full of sixth graders so it's not the best since they came slightly unprepared than the previous years- But best of luck for your band! :D
my trombone part on this song is like hell for me. there is two trombones in my freshman class. me and another guy who doesn't know how to play high notes so i have to play 3 times as loud. its decent to play but gets annoying after some time

Surprisingly easy for a grade 4. I wonder what they're graded by? Band size? I mean there is 3 seats for trombone and 4 for french horn (which isn't common in grade 2-3 1/2)
Perfectly appropriate for a HS Symphonic band. You guys don't suck! A grade 4 piece is difficult and meant for mature ensembles. The middle schoolers commenting that they played this in "6th grade" either go to a performing arts magnet school or they are lying. Lol
Nono, it means difficulty level. Im not the most reliable source, but its out of 6 (though this is not that high, its a bit easier than a 4). Most people are playing this durring 7th or 8th grade, definatley not 4th

That sounds funny
That’s how I was acting when we first play the song.

The song start so sad and melancholy then the flutes come in with the 8th and 16th notes making it all happy and cheerful
I loved playing this on the flute it was so much fun
Thank you!!!!😁
measure 25 and 33 are something else though
It’s not really meant to be sad or melancholy
More serene than melancholy

I also did this in 8th, string bass
Percussion, yeah!!
The theme in the beginning is way better than it has any right to be.
me n three friends had this stuck in our heads for the past hour and we finally found it
Ten years since I first played this song and it is still the first song I play to warm up my clarinet. I just love it
Honestly a beautiful song

That's so cool, I'm glad you remembered it. Cumberland is truly an amazing song
Oh I remember this song! I played this in 7th grade. I played the cymbal parts :D
*I played two notes during the whole song*
I play saxophone and it's hard as fUCK :DD
If it makes you feel better, this is the only song of the entire year low brass (and especially euphonium) really played anything

Its like a nice happy joyful song

I was supposed to play Trombone 1 in this earlier this year before COVID-19, it’s a shame I really liked this one.
Wait this is grade 4?
I guess. The trumpet 1 part is kinda tricky.
Zayne it's not too tricky probably just objects part that makes me choke every time
Not fourth grade like that
