Thank you so much for this video, I'm new to stoves and will need to purchase one soon. I'm glad you've opened my eyes to the wider base stoves because you know I often like to cook a meal. Great input from someone who has obviously field tested these and knows a lot about the subject, thumbs up!

Just ordered myself the MSR superfly. Loved the simplicity and the large burner! Thanks for the great review - it really helped in making a decision!

I just got one now as well, my first canister stove. Was on sale at REI. Appreciate all those sharing what they can about these types of stoves.

Good overview Devin. I use a snowpeak gigapower when I use a canister. So far so good.

Good video. I have used the Optimus Cruz cookset for 3 years now and it has never failed me. I like the accessories that come along with it. Very compact, the price might be the only thing holding people back from trying this.

Great look and you have a some good stoves there. I have a cheap Etek city style and the MiniMo. I like them both especially the Minimo for those meals that need a little simmering.

Jaxx Drinkwater I think the minimo is my favorite jetboil design.

About a year ago I bought one of the Etekcity stoves off EBAY for around $8 just out of curiosity. Never really used it on a trip, just wanted to see what it was for that price. That's crazy at that price "with a piezo ignition " Great presentation Devin.

Wouldn't the pressure in the canister be higher at altitude? Wouldn't that make it MORE efficient?

I own a lot of canister stoves: JetBoil Ti, MSR Reactor, MSR Windburner, MSR PocketRocket, MSR WindPro, Snow Peak Gigapower, Soto MicroRegulator, Soto Windmaster, & Soto Amicus. The Soto Windmaster & Amicus both have a concave burner head w/ a raised rim that lessens the effect of the wind. It is very efficient. I use the Windmaster almost exclusively now. I highly recommend it to those looking to upgrade their system. With its carrying pouch, the Windmaster weighs 2.8 oz. One aspect different about this stove is the pot support detaches from the burner head for storage. The Amicus has attched, folding arms to the burner head that is the same as the Windmaster. The Amicus weighs 3.1 oz w/ the pouch.

Why do you prefer the Windmaster to the Amicus?

Good job Devin. I've used a Primus Yellowstone Classic for years with great results. Walmart has them for about $15. It has a bigger flame similar to your MSR but quite a bit cheaper! :)

Had a pocket rocket but it wouldn't fit in my GSI Soloist with a canister in it. Then switched to the BRS stove. The BRS was AWFUL to use. I switched to the new Pocket Rocket 2.

Thank you for this multi-stove review. I've been looking at the Optimus Crux for more flame dispersion to avoid the hot spot I get from my MSR Pocket Rock. Have you used the Crux and if so what do you think of it? Again thanks for your review video.

trouble is canister stove don't work well below 0 degrees you need a real liquid fuel stove that's why when I buy one of these type of stoves in general terms that will be the MSR Universal that way in shtf if I find canisters I'll be able to use them but it will rely more heavily on gasoline which will be far more prevalent and available in and easier to store

How long does one canister of fuel last for the smaller stove? I’ll be using it primarily for boiling water for food and coffee on a 3-4 day hunt. Thanks.

Kovea spider stove. Costs 45 on Amazon, same manufacturer as msr. Can run canisters inverted and operate liquid fuel in the cold but still can simmer. Has a working atomizing loop. I liked that disclaimer at the beginning.

What kind of stove would you recommend to me since I live in Hawaii, and there aren’t any stores around that sells those fuel canisters, and if there is they are over an hour drive away. Is there one with a refillable propane canister?
