      This rail is around* the size of the contact point of 1 train wheel. The rail handles 400 tons without any damage. It would be impossible for even the heaviest of trains to have 1000 tons of weight even in 1 freight car so with the both tracks being able to hold the contact points of the wheels under 1 container, 400 ish tons in this small of an area makes it even stronger than it has to be.

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 2 года назад +1

      @@Nick-cp8wf ... also consider that a 150 ton locomotive will have at least 8 points of contact with the rail, spread out over many feet. That works out to under 20 tons per contact point.

  • @therosijedha
    @therosijedha 2 года назад +1

    hmm, the big rail doesnt surprise me because they need to handle hundreds of tonnes on them. The small rail however, (i assume it was narrow gauge) was weaker than i thought.

    The piston of the press is wiggling, has a play sideways and does not press straight down. Train wheels apply the load vertically. Okey, train wheels apply the force on a very short distance due to the radius of the wheel.
