Very delighted about you touching on this very important subject. I am all the time helping people at one of our local shooting ranges and am shocked at how much money they have wrapped up in their equipment, except for glass. A few shots with one of my rigs and they realize it's a legitimate investment.
Thanks Bill, Cheers
I have noticed in life that the most important thing is the thing I lack at that time.... Whatever that is. The missing piece.
For lack of a pin, the gun was lost.... And so on
Cheers
This stands true for your binos / spotting scope as well. I competed in the Mammoth Sniper Challenge in January - I definitely left points on the table because I didn't have good enough glass in my binos to help me find the targets (the Match Director does a great job of simulating a target that is not interested in being found / hit).
Thanks Jim
I was told as a young fella getting into shooting, spend as much if not more on your scope as you did on your rifle, great vid as always Mark, take care and stay safe cheers Yogi ✌️🤙
Thanks Yogi.
A scope allows you to see what you’re trying to hit; it’s that simple!
My wife and I have always chosen to use top-tier scopes for our hunting rifles. We’ve found that Kahles gives us the best picture at low light times, any scope looks great at noontime but quality shows itself as you lose the light.
I have plenty of range time with 22’s but even the longest shot with a 22 doesn’t compare with a 3K+ yard shot like you make look easy… We know it’s not, but watching you hit those plates gives the rest of us something to watch and dream about achieving one day, lol!
Great video, I totally agree that your scope is the most important part of your rig!
Thanks Paul, Cheers
Good advice, thank you
Cheers Tim
Thank you. Well done
Cheers Man
Great explanation of scopes but more importantly is the reasons behind your choices. Thanks for a quality video.
Thanks Steven
thank you Sir, very helpful👍👍👍
Cheers Man
I do not do ELR, but I love my ZeroTech scopes. Budget friendly but excellent glass and Aussie designed by Aussie company. I believe they are made in Japan for ZeroTech.
Cheers
I almost commented as I did to a friend a few weeks back, consistency! But as you are shooting so much more and better, if you can’t see it you’ll never hit it.
Yep, thanks man
Thank you for the top notch information. Unless I got the name wrong, I believe the base is called ERATAC for those who are curious.. Now it seems I don't need to buy multiple FFP, UHD scopes that start at $1000 US.
Cheers
...great video! just upgraded to a 10-40x mag, SFP, with 1/8th MoA adjustment. Makes a massive difference to getting on target at longer distance. I tend to mount on the lowest rings I can for consistent eye alignment...
Cheers
scopes r very important yes especially if your into plinking bugholes..Great Vid
Lol, yep Cheers
Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge. I have no ambitions of elr but this info can be directly transferred to my application.
Thanks Jonathan
Great stuff as
Always!!
Cheers
Awesome video couldn't agree more and ive always said that to my friends that are getting into long range to spend the money on a good scope i use the budget version of the razor the strike eagle 5-25x56 on all my rifles with era tac bases and for qhat area i have available it get me out to 2k reliable and consistently from my 6.5 to my 338lm
Thanks Allen, Cheers
I have a Strike Eagle 5-25x56 on my .300 Win-mag with an MDT chassis, it is a very good optic setup for 1000+ yards. I like the reticle. It is informative but simple and easy to read. Best ELR scope for under 1600 USD
@@mobiuseight-six agreed 100 percent and like I've told my friends and said here it's almost the same features as the rzr without the color of the optic there all but identical rzr might have clearer glass but looking through both I can't see the difference the gen2 that is I've yet to get to look through the gen3
do you really think 25x is enough zoom for the 2000? I always thought it was a little, but I have no experience in long range, the furthest I shot as a hunter was 700-800 meters.
Can you give me more details about 338lm? What gun do you recommend that would be accurate in this caliber? My budget for the gun is $4000 and the scope is $2000, what can you recommend?
@@xd.5.45 25x is more then enough for 2k shoots and if your budget is that much you could dang near get whatever you want a sako trg42 Savage 110 elite precision Ruger precision rifle bergara precision ECT 4k for a base rifle will get you in there with alot of manufactures and 2k for a scope will get you a damn near top tier optic probably with money left but it's a you call in what you prefer and you want to get out of a rig
I started with an Athlon, worked well for an inexpensive scope. Didn't have enough elevation. Got a Night force now and I'm very happy with it.
Awesome, thanks Jeff
Been using a 6 to 24 vortex on a 30 inch Douglas 300 wm nestled in a 700 LR action. But decided to get a Nightforce Benchrest 12×42x56 for it. The Nightforce Benchrest seems alot of bang for the buck. Excited about the illuminated dot reticle. Should mate well with my 300 wm.
Awesome, Cheers Shawn
Thank you
Thanks Morgan
Ive learned the hard way buying scopes from Walmart. They work better than open sights but nothing close to what you want. Spend a little more to get way better! Lots of good options coming out on the budget side under 500 more than 100!
Thanks Chris
Thanks Mark
Without consistent and repeatable clicks you never know what adjustments will be correct.
Thanks Charles
Complimenti. Video molto ben fatti.saluti dall italia
Cheers Man
It was Jackie Schmidt who said that a scope was "...the weakest link".😊
Thanks Man
I’ve settled in on a 6-30x56 Trijicon Accu-Trac mounted on an EGW 60MOA base. It’ll dial up much further than I (currently) can shoot…!
Awesome. Cheers
I’ve recently been thinking of selling my “cheaper” scopes and getting something decent and using it on 3-4 different rifles. I like the Zeiss LRP 3 36X.
Cheers
Wouldn't that be abit of a pain to zero in every time you want to shoot a different rifle?
Eratac are superb...
I much prefer it over the Iveys form factor.. that tumor of a dial sucks hahaha
Lol. Cheers
Just starting and I went budget to get a 60moa base for my 120moa scope, which number I think I got from your videos. The gun came with a 20moa rail, the 20moa mount cost the same as straight rings, and I added a fixed 20moa riser to keep my muzzle device out of view. Only have one ELR gun so adjustability wasn't much of a concern. Thanks for all the recommendations; has saved me a lot of time.
Cheers Man
Saving my mad money for a March Genesis ELR. Already have the Valdada Ram 200 on my current rig.
Thanks Stephen, Cheers
Reply $4175.00 brand new
Im looking at one of the cold shot bases for 22lr elr. What is it you dont like about them? Love the chanel btw! So much fantastic information on here!
We have videos on elevation adders, but yes not a fan of that sort, Cheers
I recently upgraded to a TT 525 and couldn’t be happier! It’s hard to explain how a good optic can change the shooting experience completely. How well it cuts through mirage is probably the most impressive aspect for me!
Great to hear, and great scopes, but, nothing cuts through mirage, it is a affect of air density differences, good glass can only make thing a little clearer, mirage still affects the image and point of aim. Cheers
You are right I ask all my new rifle guys whom want to shoot long range how's your math if It's good to close I tell them to start go with a MOA scope rather then MIL's because it is easier to work in one's then 3.6's then I explain why seems to work well on New LRS .
Thanks Kurt
Set your laser range finder to meters and everything is back to 1 not 3.6.
That's true but most of my shooters Don't have laser or a shoot program or how to use it. I have also found that too much info gets many folk over loaded and pretty soon they start to feel they Can't do this and quit. That is what I Don't want to happen.
@@kurtpietrzak9168 if they are that low of a level make the math even simpler and tell them it is only 3 clicks per MOA.
It's not that but they are part of the crowd that couldn't give you change on there own. They take a little more time but they always. Come around and That's what make the time it takes to get there well worth it especially when they nail the first 1000 yard shot.
Personally, I need to learn how to use a scope properly
Cheers
Hi Mark, great video as per usual! Where do you buy your ERA-TAC bases from in Australia?
Optics Trade, Europe
Fantastic video as always. I would love your thoughts on FFP vs SFP for ELR. Ive jusr got into the sport after a 20 year hiatus but most of the reading Ive done have people leaning toward FFP for ELR. However I notice that you tend to lean toward SFP. Wondering your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of the 2?
ruclips.net/video/_z1YGKB1Xhw/видео.html
Have you ever tried the Leupold Mark 5HD series?
Yes, good features and glass, but had major parallax issues, not a fan sorry, Cheers
🥳👍✌️‼️
👍👍
My “opinion”, for anyone that has a not so expensive scope, performs accurate box test, but not as good glass as top tier but usable, don’t feel like you have insufficient product.
If spending 2 - 4x as much for super glass clarity lets you see better but doesn’t really improve your ability to hit your target, what have you gained?
Now I do ooooh and awwwwe over the clarity and fine detail of my expensive scopes at way beyond reach and ability. But at the same time, get realistically the same outcome from my mid grade optics. So you don’t have pull a second mortgage for top tier glass to be able to take care of business.
My “opinion” from using cheap to moderately expensive top tier optics.
Cheers
What weights did you get?
?
Hey Mark, Do you have a model number for the Eratac base and an Australian outlet? Thanks, Craig
We purchase from Optics-Trade, Europe, and use the height that suits the application, generally the tallest, Cheers
I know this is off topic but I don’t think you have covered it. Do you think it’s possible to do 1000 yards plus with 222 ? Savage 340
We don't have those rifles.
Buy once. Cry once.
Lol, yep, Cheers
No point having perfect tracking if your cant is out 1°. Don't forget a $100 anti-cant device
Cheers
Ahh yes, the inadequate glass fallacy. No doubt you've seen your fair share of absolute abominations when shooters in the USA have a $2,000 rifle and $500 glass. I see this with some frequency and am at a loss for words 😂
Yes, and until they have used the better options most are oblivious to the reality of it, lol, Cheers
It's like that for everything. Guys will spend $3000 on a nice semi auto b&t rifle or a nice ar and then put a shitty $100 red dot or a shitty lpvo.
