      Thank you for the video! Question though:
      Is ASIO needed for music composition systems like Kontakt, Spitfire Audio, etc.? Or does it only affect audio interface hardware that subsequently would only affect physical instruments? The answer seems to be a yes, but I'm asking just to be sure.

    Thanks for this crash course. I've made a little bit of music before, but all of it was by writing individual notes for MIDI instruments using a keyboard and mouse. When I decided to add recorded audio and real-time playing into the mix, I was kind of taken aback at just how much latency I get without an audio interface. And now pre-amp on the motherboard! Obviously I had a lot of misconceptions that probably seem silly to some. So I learned about audio interfaces and got one, a Scarlett 4i4 3rd gen. (2i2 might have been enough for me. Honestly, the two line-in's in the back and the MIDI ports are in the "better to have it and not need it..." category for now.)
    I only learned just enough about ASIO to get my interface running. I think it would be good at some point to actually learn some of the details. You never know what kind of information is going to come in handy at some point.

      Can you please help me out, I just want to connect my midi keyboard to PC and get low latency. I'm not into production or anything, I just want low latency at cheap price.

    • @tom_something
      @tom_something Год назад

      @@arpansolomon7572 Sorry, I don't have any specific recommendations. I recommend looking for up-to-date reviews featuring appropriate devices, and make sure they're using the same operating system (Mac, Windows) as you are.
      If your MIDI keyboard uses a USB connection, the input latency is probably already as low as it can get. But if you're having issues, you may need to do certain things to try and get the output latency down. ASIO4ALL is a software solution that might help with that. Also, check to see if your DAW or music software has options for audio buffer size. Reducing the buffer can reduce latency, but it might introduce other issues, so it's a balancing act. If none of those help, then it's really time to look for some hardware like an audio interface or a sound card.

    Thanks Zane, Awesome video. We had to go the ASIO route, because the computer I use is awesome, fast and works well for music, except for the crappy soundcard that came with it, it would drop out every few seconds and drove me nuts. Fixed it with ASIO for All, then found that even that only worked so far. Once we bought our M-Audio Air 192/4 Interface, the system worked perfectly and is now golden!! We use M-Audio's ASIO driver and yes the latency is so minimal it's awesome. Sound quality is beautiful with this unit too.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  10 месяцев назад

      You can look up how to install software on your operating system. Then once you figure out how to install software you can download the installer for one of the DAW programs that you’re interested in. Double click on the installer (or first unzip it if needed) then go through the installation process.
      Most software should include a help section where you can click and access the user manual. You can look through that for the things that you’re interested in figuring out. If it’s just some words that you aren’t sure of then you can always google those words and see what they mean.
      This video is talking about what a specific driver type is for audio interfaces so I can see why you’re confused if you clicked and expected a video on “What is a DAW for beginners”.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  2 года назад

      Asio won’t change the sound of your audio it’s just a driver. But if your latency settings are too low it could cause pops and clicks and other weird issues. You can try increasing your latency to see if that helps. Does the Zoom R8 have its own Asio driver so you don’t have to use Asio4all?

    ASIO4ALL is good, but it's really only second best to a dedicated ASIO driver for your hardware. I used to use ASIO4ALL all the time and thought the results were OK. I got a Creative soundcard with ASIO, and now latency is around 4ms which I don't notice and sounds really really nice.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  2 года назад +1

      Yes always use a dedicated Asio driver if it’s available for your interface. Asio4all is only if your interface doesn’t have a dedicated Asio driver.

  • @SuperTemak

    Can NOT using ASIO drivers cause a sound card to malfunction? I use an MPC Beats DAW, and the installed windows 10 sound drivers. Now the Creative Audigy Sound Card is not being used - the sound comes from Realtek Speakers or my Nvidia Graphics Card. The Creative Card is no longer even listed as an option. There was a hum or buzz coming out of the speakers and I made the mistake of using the windows sound troubleshooter. It "solved" the problem by switching to Realtek speakers instead of the Creative Audigy speaker setup I was using. The noise is still present, but it is not as loud.

    From what I understand about core vs asio drivers at a very geeky level, core has a few features that asio doesn't support natively, like combining multiple I/O's into a single logical device, but it doesn't really matter as software developers are able to create identical features on each platform. Sometimes people get hung up on whether something is "native" or not. In terms of actual code performance and efficiency, asio is the far better driver. In fact, at this point windows has basically turned the tables on osx completely. I personally run both systems and I much prefer my windows rig over my Apple rig. It's more stable and twice as fast for the same money. Unfortunately Apple leans heavily on their reputation from the past, hoping that no one will notice how much they've stagnated.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  2 месяца назад

      The driver won’t change the sound of the final master. But the driver can give you better latency which will affect how you record. Asio is the standard for music production on PC. It is designed for the purpose of music production.
      You will need to manually install the Asio driver for your audio interface. Go to the website for your interface’s manufacturer and see if they have an Asio driver that you can install.
