Ok, last video on this knife - laying this saga to rest - I will keep the knife, at least for comparison purposes in future videos. Looking back, this sounds whiney, but dang, the emotions were RAW at the time!
I had that exact Exocet I love the design of it... but mine failed and was sent back to them three times and each time I received it back from them failed right away. Bad customer service for sure and not worth the $$ they sell for.... def other options but I do like the form factor of the Exocet.
Thank You. Your review just saved me $330 dollars. I was about to buy an Exocet until I saw this. For a knife that's so expensive, and from a company which sells the "lifetime warranty" as a main feature, this is 100% unexceptable. They should have just given you a new one the second time you sent it in.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video and not keeping silent. The economy doesn't work if there is no free speech to counter balance when companies do something wrong and also to show people when companies do something good. That's very unfortunate. Right thing to do would be they give your money back or give you a brand new knife. Don't go to the route of thinking you are bothering them if you contact them again. I suggest you contact them again. You didn't pay them with grass. You did pay they with your hard earned money. This is not a budget knife.
Thanks for this video man, you just made up my mind about buying that exact knife, ill go with the mini trodon or a UTX85 something must be off on the internal design...
I have several of their Ultratech’s and combat troodon’s no issues with those carrying and using. This might not be ideal, but I purchased their torx driver with all the different proprietary bits and service the knives yearly. I bet something is off in the cage, causing drag in your Exocet, probably just needs a little sanding. It could be a weak spring as well, but it’s a shame they couldn’t fix it after all this time.
I've handled several Microtechs, but could never get past the obscenity and ridiculousness of Microtech prices. Even worse to see/hear that they seem to have little or no interest in providing meaningful customer service. Nothing whiny about getting straight up scammed, which as far as I'm concerned is what has happened to you. You've been much nicer about it than I would be. Cheers.
Hey. First time I ever fired my exocet it failed. Since then I have fired it hundreds of times and never had an issue. I really think these things have serious issues with needing oil and are very sensitive to dirt or lint or junk inside the handle. It really sucks that yours CLEARLY has issues when mine is perfect currently. I love it more than the utx-70 for edc.
Man i have utx 70 that missfired often, i m in europe so no hope to send that to the factory... best i could get was to clean it and fire it blade down, gravity helped and i get no missfires, sound stupid seen the price but should work too with the heftier blade of the exocet... i can feel your frustration.
I think that it could be where the lock connects to the actual blade may be out of spec if it continues to fail locking up if they did replace the lock mechanism. They should have checked the tolerances of the blade and lock mechanism. I have the odg Exocet with the black double edge dagger blade and it hasn’t failed to lock up unless I intentionally blocked the deployment if the blade such as with a card board box. Otherwise it’s locked up after actuation of the slide button every single time without obstruction of the blade.
Protech is charging $15 for return shipping plus whatever you paid to ship it and the work they do. My stripped screw hole will be $10.50+$50+$15 in total.
oh man.,. you're not supposed to push the button upside down! check your paperwork in the box I think it might say that. hahaha. get rid of that thing, it's got the VOODOO. I'd send it back again.
@@CoyoteEDC I know I maybe late to the Party, but this is a ''views'' GOLD MINE! (from one "long time'' YT'er to another) That's how I'd look at it. A mini series. With Highs & Lows, and will there ever be a Captivating resolution? Keep watching, is what I'd tell viewers. I've subbed other channels for a lot less, just to keep up! Sometimes ya have to take those Lemons and make Lemonade!
I would be so pissed that they didn’t check the work out for a minute or two before calling it fixed. I’m sure they didn’t want to bite the bullet on a refund because they didn’t have a replacement body because it is a special run knife. I have been happy with my counterfeit Microtech bounty hunter and if it stopped working right I would take it apart myself and possibly replace parts that are available online and if not repair it just toss it. I t only cost me 30 bucks and would financially recover 😅. Thanks for the video and it makes me truly think twice about buying one from Microtech for 350 with tax.
I heard microtech quality went down bad… they are crap now and wanted to boss other companies like Axial otf knives out of their dealers because they know their quality is trash
they really do kind of seem like they are the only dog on the porch. which is so wrong! maybe since the boss man is so in love, he's not paying attention to what should be the first love. I saw that video of him and his ""girl" covered in tattoos, and how they made 2 love knives, as a set! and I felt like I had to throw up my lunch after seeing that video!! hope Heretic, watches RUclips, and reads comments. there's a lot to be learned.
Crap knife. I think it's a design issue. Combination of how short and how wide it is means the spring just isn't strong enough to reliably do it's job. Dogshit. I don't know if it'd be fair to pass that piece of junk on to someone else -- as you say, Microtech should replace it. Email the CEO directly, linking your videos.
Why would you sell it if you know it’s not working properly? I will say, I have an Exocet and it’s never failed. My Ultratech has failed more than any other of my OTFs though.
If you say, had the tools and know-how to fix these knives, and saw me selling this slightly broken one for $100 - it may be worth the purchase if its something a knowledgeable person could fix on their own. Either way I am keeping it though, so its a moot point.
@@CoyoteEDC cool. Love your channel. I’m sure you’d let a perspective buyer know ahead of time of the piece not working properly. I believe if Microtech has worked on this three times, they should definitely replace it.

Did you oil it, I’ve had issues with mine locking up so I had to flood it with rem oil and it never had the issue again

Just got my exocet. Didnt work out of the box at all. Bit of rem oil and it hasnt failed once.
@@Jacrispy223I had to do that with my combat troodon
Oh my god~~~! what did they do this time? My answer is "Perhaps no action!" I recommend you forth trip with a strong criticism! From S.Korea. ^^

I am glad Microtech covers shipping both ways. That is nice at least.
How reliable is the action on yours?
Garbage. Fails to lockup about 20% of the time. And that's after multiple trips to Microtech for the issue to the "fixed".
If you disassemble then take 1/16" off the back of the blade where the front lock engages upon lockout, you'll see much better results.
But then you lose your warranty completely
oh man.,. you're not supposed to push the button upside down!

I gave up on this thing. It works 100% of the time, 60% of the time 🤐

If they had offered to replace it, I would have been happy with a bone stock version of the Exocet. Its the principle of the matter.
After owning one and then selling it I can also say that they aren't worth 300.
My DHgate copy is more reliable for 1/10 the price of the real thing.
I've got clones that have never misfired. Microtech are not worth the price.
