- "I'm a Man You Don't Meet Every Day" is a traditional Scottish or Irish Music Hall song written from the point of view of a rich landowner telling the story of his day while buying drinks at a public house. The song is an Irish narrative ballad that has been shortened to an Aberdeenshire drinking song.
It is also known under the titles Jock Stuart, Jock Stewart or Jock Steward.
Various versions of the song exist. A "boastful Irish ditty" of that title is recorded as early as the 1880s.] A recent popular version was recorded in 1985 by the Pogues, with bass player Cait O'Riordan on vocals.
One of the earliest recordings is from the mid-1970s when Chris Foster received a cassette recording he had made of Mrs Amy Ford from Low Ham, Somerset, UK, singing this song. Amy learnt the song from her grandfather, Frederick “Cauliflower” Crossman, who was one of Cecil Sharp's singers.

Bij ons hebben ze een "Irish pub" waar Frans bauwer wordt gedraait. en als je vraagt om ierse muziek hebben ze geen idee. Misschien is geen "irish pub"toch een beter idee. Maar deze muziek draait bij mij thuis elke dag. Biertje erbij, en je vergeet alle ellende van de afgelopen werkdag.. Geen therapie meer nodig.

where do you hear them claim that they learned it in scotland? hmm? they didn't, they just love the style and they love making their music, and some people actually love the music they make. so would you just get off their back and bloody let them??? when will people realise that music doesn't have to perfectly fit within a style or genre in order to be beautiful? if that were the case a lot of beautiful pieces we know today wouldn't exist!

Hello Frances, We wish we were classical trained. Learned it at the traditional Irish music sessions at our local Irish Pub called O'Ceallaigh. We probably made a bad copy from the music we heard at that time according to you comment. We learned it al by heart and keep the rough edge. In contrast wit classical training
