It’s always immediately apparent at the star of a fight when a fighter doesn’t take his opponent seriously. This happens all the time in boxing. Same as Joshua w/ Ruiz. I actually love it when that happens. It’s great for humility.

Yeah, Lewis was acting like a real asshole during the entire time leading up to the fight and during the fight. I’ve never been a Lewis fan, but I recognize the guys accomplishments. I remember watching this broadcast when I was younger and really despising Lewis for his behavior during this. Which totally turned me off to him as a Boxing Champion. I’m not sure how much this truly taught him humility, but it seemed like he got the message starting with that big right hand.
Lennox was clearly underestimating rahman in every possible way And he paid the price for it. His jabs weren’t as sharp and powerful as usual, his right hand was down for the majority of the fight and his overall activity is dropping slowly round by round.
Lewis had a great chin, but this KO punch was a monster! Sent Lewis’ mind to another dimension. He looked stunned in the corner and probably had no idea the fight was even over in the minutes immediately after. Lewis sounded clear in his interview but was talking usual boxer rubbish “I thought I could make the count but the ref decided I couldn’t make it and called off the fight “ etc- what now !? Rahman set this punch up throughout the fight - his main weapon. Surely one of the biggest heavyweight punches ever !
Lennox Lewis never saw that shot coming. Rahman landed it flush on his chin. Lennox's defence was atrocious on this night. He was somewhat lethargic. We didn't see the usual Lennox Lewis's signature jabs and uppercuts. Not to even mention power shots.
The way some of these commentators and reporters talk is too much. Lennox shoulda walked off on that talking head interviewing him at the end of the fight.
Hashim Rehman a great boxer who defeated a real boxing lion. Lewis is very accurate and hard boxer. Good luck to both and sponsoring officials as well. Love from Pakistan
Fighters with world-class toughness take big punches and come back. Even if they get knocked down, they get up, survive, fire back... and win. See Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield.
Lewis had been taking it easy as though he is going to make it in the coming rounds. He was rather slugglish in his movements. He hardly used his right fist as I was expecing him to use it once with a heavy bang putting his opponent down. Rehman was smart all the time clasping Lewis around not making him to punch. At last he was lucky that he got a gap and he didn't miss the golden chance to hit Lewis on the target and put him down and win the fight.
Lewis always seemed to have the bad habit of just switching off and losing concentration. I still can't figure out why Lewis just backed into the ropes and put his arm up as if to block an incoming punch as his hand probably blocked his vision of the incoming punch and it was lights out.
Lewis though ....LMAO , sure in a bar fight , most of us would surly be knocked out in a sec , but any trained competing Heavy Weight professional would give him troubles, he only fights weal contenders and he thought this one would be another easy win.
The Punch that set up the knock was at 1:23. That right hand hurt Lennox Lewis and caused him to drop his hand and move back without protecting himself. He was dazed by right hand and fighting on instinct. Watch the punch before and look at how he moves.
All i ever see on this is excuses yet when someone says Tyson didn't take Douglas serios enough it's al 'blah blah excuse for Tyson'. Double standards, Lewis avenged this in fine style yes but he still got caught by a good shot and knocked TF out for the second time in his career. facts.
I would say Evander won their second fight. But after robbing Lewis in the first they gave him the W. A lot like what happens in football, where the refs blow a call and then give the team they screwed a freebie (which usually isnt equal...BS 60 yard pass interference call and then turn around and give the other team a BS holding call lol)
@@marinewillis1202 The second fight was a lot closer, but Lewis still won that easily. That’s confirmed by the shots thrown / landed stats, too. Calling the first a split-decision (draw) was a travesty: Lewis won that by such a distance that daylight was second with Holyfield trailing behind in third gasping for air. As for the Mercer fight, that was easily the hardest-fought fight of Lewis’ career, and had the ringside judges scored it the other way, I doubt he would have complained. In reality, however, Lewis landed more punches, so in fairness, he did do just enough to eke out the win, but it really ought to have been scored a draw with an immediate rematch given how equal the fight actually was. Mercer gave him a helluva battle, but I think Lewis would have learnt a lot from that bout and dealt with him far more effectively had there been a rematch.
