    Getting back into reefing. I’ve been doing fresh water for over 25 years. Only had one reef tank like 18 years ago. Just got this tank plan on keeping it stock (although the light pisses me off) glad to see this video

    This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I have a completely stock Evo 13.5 with just a small power head added. Great to see you can actually make an awesome reef with this thing as it comes. I have 2 little clowns. A frag of GPS, blasto frag and a rockflower anemone

      Glad to hear! I couldn’t find many stock tanks out there when I got started with this tank. You can absolutely make an awesome tank with stock equipment. Sounds like a cool tank, I do want some rock flower anemones in the future!

      @@cooleyscoral3456 Hi. How did you get rid of the Dino issue you had??

    • @cooleyscoral3456
      @cooleyscoral3456  2 года назад

      @@gm8314 when I was battling Dino’s I tried all the stuff that you hear you need to do to get rid of them. I think the main thing I did was the UV sterilizer. That along with manual removal and light reduction. The Dino’s go away at night and show back up a few hours after the lights come back on. I just saw what time they started coming back and would kill the lights. I have Dino’s in my new tank now and I’m just doing manual removal and UV sterilizer. So far it is working really well 👍

    Great update! So refreshing to see a nano reef tank thriving with stock options alone.
    As a beginner, I'd love a video (or names in the description) on which corals you have used in this tank..

    Hi, I like your tank, can you make a video of your maintenance? 😊 My 17 year old is setting up a new tank and we don't know alot of what to do.... a tutorial would be cool, we love your system! Nice work and thanks for sharing!

    • @cooleyscoral3456

      So glad you like the tank! My filtration video goes through my maintenance routine if you want to check that out. I just change my poly fiber out twice a week and do a 2 1/2 gallon water change every week. All my water is RODI and 0 TDS which is critical to a successful reef tank. I will do a video on my maintenance soon. I’d recommend watching Tom Reefer, he has a lot of good content that will definitely help your 17year old! Thanks for your comment 😀

    You have probably the nicest fluval on RUclips with the stock light. I really don't want to upgrade the light. Everyone keeps recommending AI prime but once you add a mount, diffuser, ato, lid... etc you are probably more than doubling the cost of the tank. The main issue I have with the stock setup is heat and low ph . What ph is yours at? Mines at 7.8 probably 7.7 in the evenings. I have a small fan running on the on top of the skimmer cutout which helps the heat issue (was hitting 80-81 during the day) but not much progress on the ph. I'm getting over 9kh on my alkalinity test. Any suggestions. It is a new tank btw. Probably been two months since I added water

    • @cooleyscoral3456
      @cooleyscoral3456  2 года назад +1

      Thanks 🙏 I appreciate that! As far as PH goes I’m not sure. Is it in a well ventilated room? You might want to keep the window open for a little while during the day if weather permits. Honestly I have never even tested my PH, I probably should. I would ask “Tom Reefer” he’s a RUclipsr that is really knowledgeable and willing to answer whatever questions you ask. Hopefully this helps.

    Hi, I really like your tank, and my 7 year old son and I are going to set one up. We have the EVO, do you have a list of the other items you purchased to support your set up? We want to mimic your success. I am not sure what models, brands, etc. I am taking notes though as we listen, but I am not exactly sure on the product to order. You seem like you kept it budget friendly.

    Very nice tank. If you are looking for a decent upgrade for return pump check out the Sicce .5. It’s not a tremendous difference but it’s a little more powerful and fits fine in the 3rd chamber. If you don’t mind me asking, which UV sterilizer do you have?

    • @cooleyscoral3456
      @cooleyscoral3456  3 года назад

      Thanks 🙏🏻 As far as an upgrade I’ll keep that in mind. The UV sterilizer I use is the
      Auqa Shield UV Sterilizer Desktop. It has worked out really well.

    Hey the tank looks great and thank you for the update! You mentioned having brown diatoms in the beginning that made you want to quit. How did you finally wipe it out? Thanks

    • @cooleyscoral3456
      @cooleyscoral3456  3 года назад

      In the video I was talking about dinoflagellates. Diatoms are just one of those things you have to wait out. I did have diatom blooms and eventually a second wave of algae out competed it. How old is your tank?

      You can probably get started with the tank, rocks and salt for around $250-$300. If you have access to RODI water from your LFS then you can. If you have to get a RODI unit then it’s about $150 extra.

    • @cooleyscoral3456
      @cooleyscoral3456  3 года назад +1

      No I don’t run a skimmer. I did for a while but I was having trouble keeping my nitrates up. Also it was a pretty wet skim and with it being a small system I didn’t want to risk salinity swings. You can watch my video on filtration and see exactly what I run.
