Solo lance main since MH2 Freedom Unite here and Adept Lance main in gen/double-cross. If you meant Adept GUNLANCE, then my apologies. Tips off the top of my head in no particular order: - If you successfully Adept Guard an attack, you can cancel the animation into another Adept Guard. This allows you to Adept Guard multi-hits (including ridiculous stuff like Silver Rath 3-hit fly-by-attack). - You can instant guard while running by hitting R+X+A. Useful if you get caught out of a superman dive or something since you run out of that by default. - You can cancel your Adept Guard into a shield advance so long as you do the input very quickly. This can be used when you cancel a successful Adept Guard to keep pace if an enemy swings out of your counter attack range. Flows into shield advance -> evade as normal in case you need that. - If you're hit by bubbles, just keep your weapon out and Adept Guard away. - Stabbing the weak point is preferable to Adept Guarding and counter attacking a tough body part if you're aiming for clear. Mastering your directional understanding and positioning for perfect weak spot abuse is key to making Adept Lance not suck on clears. Done right, there is no reason Adept Lance should fall behind Guild. The only style you should fall behind is Striker. Otherwise, the counter attack has a mind's eye effect so you can freely try to use it to break body parts without being too vulnerable.
When you successfully adept block you have a few options, you can input a direction and X for a counter that reloads all your shells, press X again to do a slam, press A for burst. You can side step after adept block. And you can shield again after adept block(could result in another adept block)

The wyvernfire is a multi-hit, so if you use it on a sleeping monster you don't get a meaningful damage boost. That's why it felt weak.
