It would be more interesting if you knew that in Zoorkhane (strength house) the drummer also sings iranian poets , like poets from Shahnameh(book of kings)
For those who wonder why the spin, it's a training for head & balance,it was very important to get use to spins and fast turning as a melee warrior, it also improves one's balance. As a warrior in ancient times to do tactical maneuvers, to swing left and right without loosing your balance during melee was nessesary, since one warrior might be attached from front and behind constantly, if the head and body are not ready to spin back and fort ,it would be easy to get stabbed. you gotta spin so much so that once you stay you will not feel dizzy, they actually become good at that, Zurkhane warriors could sping for minutes and yet they are able to stand still afterwards.
If am not wrong iran is not secular. Just that they're not sunni muslims. They're shias. So not as extreme as those sunnis but still not at all secular and kinda extreme.
@Le Jean Paul Labiche It is in the Middle East. The guy who commented before you probably thinks only the Arab countries in Asia are part of the Middle East.
Definitely not secular. We all saw what happened with Mahsa Amini and many others who were killed recently. Maybe during Reza Shah Pehlavi rule Persia was secular
This not just a physical exercise it's also a spiritual religious gathering as they recite eulogies and poems and Supplications of the Ahlulbayt of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.A.W
@@oxlaey Traditional Iranian wrestling (koshti) dates back to ancient Persia and was said to have been practiced by Rustam, mythological Iranian hero of the Shahnameh epic. While folk styles were practiced for sport by every ethnic group in various provinces, grappling for combat was considered the particular specialty of the zourkhāneh. The original purpose of these institutions was to train men as warriors and instill them with a sense of national pride in anticipation for the coming battles. The Mithrāic design and rituals of these academies bear testament to its Parthian origin (132 BCE - 226 CE). The zourkhaneh system of training is what is now known as varzesh-e bastani, and its particular form of wrestling was called koshti pahlevani, after the Parthian word pahlevan meaning hero. When the Arabs invaded Persia around 637 CE, the zourkhānehs served as secret meeting places where knights would train and keep alive a spirit of solidarity and patriotism. Invaders repeatedly targeted the houses of strength to discourage rebels, but new ones would always be organized in a different location. Following the spread of Shia Islam, and particularly after the development of Sufism in the eighth century, varzesh-e pahlavani absorbed philosophical and spiritual components from it. Religious hymns were incorporated into training, and the first Shi'ite imam Ali was adopted as the zourkhāneh patron
