How to change background color of text in Microsoft Word Office 365

Something as simple as changing the background colour of text might be hard to find as there as so many functions in MS Word! If you have trouble changing the background color of text, feel free to check out this video :)

Turns out section with the paragraph mark prevent the shading to be applied to the paragraph?! Word is so weird.

in dark mode, word background is black and selecting text is gray. it is difficult to see the gray selection. how do u change the gray selection highlight? the same gray that shows up on ur video when u select your text. thankx.
