      +s. Jackson Could you imagine a whole room full of these? BTW, SNK did the same thing when they got bought out in the early 2000's and they made King of Fighters themed pachinko machines. This brought back memories!!! My father bought one of these back in 1973 .. he purchased in Thailand when he was in the Air Force. Very similar but his actually had the electric kickers or whatever they are called where the ball not only bounces but is punched in different directions. I was only like 3 or 4 but definitely remember it! No tv monitor on it but it did make sounds and motions kinda like American horizontal pinball machines. I do remember he was VERY happy when he sold it aprx 10yrs later. A collector bought it. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

    When I was in Japan I stumbled into a gaming center and people were lined up around the door is seemed to play. It is a form of gambling like slot machines or the like. You would buy a bucket of balls and after can trade them back in for "Prizes" Those prizes are like slips of gold in plastic where you can exchange them at the neighboring building for cash as to not violate the gambling laws. Getting the balls in the slot machine is where you can win big.

      The written Japanese language uses 3 different symbol systems - Hiragana (a phonetic symbol system for native Japanese words), Katakana (for foreign words) and Kanji, which are symbols borrowed from Chinese - of which there are many thousands. So, yes, you should bone up on Kanji, borrowed from the Chinese, to read Japanese.

I have nothing to do with any of that, I just like reading on random topics now and then. Your channel happened uppon me in perfect timing. There is certainly something very romantic about how kitsch these now obsolete machines seem on retrospective analysis. It´s nice that there are guys like you keeping this piece of history alive. :)

    Pachinko, pinball's gamblin' Japanese cousin. Found an older mechanical model in a junk shop and I'm working on spiffing it up, a bit more skill involved as the plunger is manually operated.
    Nice compromise if you don't have space for a pinball machine. Most pinballs pre-1947 didn't have flippers, so they'd play a lot like a pachinko machine does, also what got folks like Mayor LaGuardia mad...

The guy just cranked it up to the max and all the balls kept falling through the right side, missing the center gate completely - the "slot machine" game on the little screen. Which may win you more balls, or if you hit jackpot - different prizes (from the parlor.). In other words, it's as mindless as you make it. You can play Poker by saying "I fold" every time it's your turn and it will be just as mind-numbingly stupid.

    • @LouisAndPillz
      @LouisAndPillz 10 лет назад +5

      I would understand, but it's a little different with slot machines. A lot of slot machines over here now actually have little minigames to play, and you're doing a lot more than just watching balls drop. You actively try to get it so everything lands on the right number (even though it never does because it's all rigged).
      Hell, some casinos look more like arcades nowadays. There's this one that I played themed like CSI: Miami, where you gain "clues" as you play, and after you gain enough clues from playing a long enough time you enter a "case" where you "solve" it by trying to get specific numbers and turnouts.
      So it's not really "hold this button and hope for the best".

    • @Dant2142
      @Dant2142 8 лет назад

      +LouisAndPillz The modern pachinko machines are almost just like that. Ultimately, though, its all still gambling. The entertainment value comes from the possibility of ending up with more money than you put into the machine. Not my kind of thing, but I understand it...

    • @spunkybruiser
      @spunkybruiser 8 лет назад

      +LouisAndPillz In a slot machine you put money in pull and play, this you put the balls in and have to wait and suspense until .. OO finally you play. It is a delayed gratification. It is a game of chance even before you play a game of chance.

      TNT Amusements Inc I make this comment based on your own admissions of ignorance in this very same video. I came to this video to find out what this machine was about I left having learnt that you don't know much about it.

      Pshhh, I mean, isn't it obvious? It's a flashing noise maker. My cousins kids have plenty of these. Although, I'm pretty sure he didn't pay $100 for any of them. Also, they look different. Plus, the flashing noise maker only holds his kid's attention for a very short time. I can't imagine these flashing noise makers holding anybody's attention, child or adult, for longer than it takes for it to induce a migraine.

    LMAO at your sarcastic comments !! "Look at the fun we are having, the excitement, the mirth" !! LOL !! :-) You should be in comedy ! Anyways , to answer your question about the 3 numbers in the center display: These 3 numbers appear at the end of every session when you run out of balls. If the 3 numbers are the same, you win a big prize. It rarely every happens. I know this is a mindless game like slot machines, but sometimes if you had a stressed out or lousy week at work or home , you want something mindless to take your mind off your troubles; it reduces stress for some people, and of course the hope of winning a big prize for a little money.

      No, try going to the Casino..Konami makes most of the slot machines. When Nintendo, PlayStation and Sega started making games it squeezed them out if the market.

      TNT Amusements Inc I to have to agree with the comments made by your previous viewer as my father bought me a Pachinko machine way back. I guess it most have been an older model but so much more animated with flashing lights and a few songs I loved it . This current model does seem dull to the my Yellow and Gold one . If I had been there that day I would have bought it from you no questions asked. I guess we Americans will always stick with pinball .

    This is dumber than I was even imagining. Before watching the I didn't fully understand what a "pachinko machine" was. I wouldn't pay $5 for this, it's loud, annoying, with a pointless concept. Those balls look like basic ball bearings, and sorry but that "nice wood case" looks to me like someone slapped a couple of 1X6s together.

    • @christianblade2052
      @christianblade2052 6 лет назад

      +MistaTofMaine Well, it's just a gambling machine like a slot machine. I had one when I was a kid and had fun with it actually. Just because you don't care for it like these dopes in the video doesn't mean you have to piss all over it for everyone else though.

As one of the branches of bagatelle the other being Pinball you should be ashamed of not at least knowing how to play! Stick with Pinball vids something you are a great Master at!

    Seems like this guy is more anti-asian if anything because I can imagine people sitting in front of a machine like this, they're called Casinos...fyi you can also look away from a modern casino machine and push a button 🙄
