Watching this side by side with Steel Vengeance, really reveals how much work went into SV, but how much of the original layout remains. Still Mean Streak at its core. Beautiful ride.
May dad took me to Cedar Point in 2011, us being coaster fanatics, and this ride in paticular had no line. We must've ridden this woodie 10 times in a row and only one other person ever rode with us. He's sadly no longer with us but he would've loved what they did to it, what with the new Steel Vengeance and all. Now I just need to go back and ride it someday in his memory. Thanks for the memories ✌🏻
Some wooden coasters can be pretty smooth if they have been taken good care of or are retracked once in a while. I don’t mind a little bit of roughness on wooden coasters but there is only so much I can handle as there is a difference between a bumpy and fun ride to an unbearable and painful experience. Mean Streak was so rough to the point where it was hard to enjoy.
I only ever rode this a handful of times. I don't remember it being extremely rough, but it was definitely at the bottom among all the coasters at Cedar Point. Steel Vengeance took this thing and brought it to another universe.
I'm local near CP, and rode it alot. Never came across as painful. It would shake your fillings loose, but that is what makes wood coasters great, they have that dangerous runaway train feel to them. Never got off the ride with a sore back or anyrhing. New smooth tracks are boring to me. To each their own I guess.
@@randomgamer-st1ie This finished constantly at the bottom of coaster lists for a few decades. Plenty of people who ride wooden coasters complain, but there's a difference between rough enjoyment and sadistic enjoyment. But as you said, to each their own. :)
They need to rebuild the Mean Streak because this ride is a back breaker. They should rebuild it to a steal wooden coaster like the New Texas Giant for example.
I dont like when they rip into wooden coasters too much, but they did this rollercoaster justice, nailed it with Steel Vengeance. 10/10 Super fun. It keeps the spirit of Mean streak within it's layout. It's just way better and aggressive but smooth as glass.. loved it.. Rode it in may with gf.
The Steel Vengeance is fun, buy the Mean Streak was the first roller coaster I've ever ridden. Rest in peace, Mean Streak. You'll always have a place in our hearts
Mean Streak really was a good ride, despite the height the drop felt like nothing and it wasn’t as bouncy as people gave it hate for. Obviously steel vengeance is better, but I do miss the Mean Streak sometimes
This is buttery smooth for a wooden Coaster video. Much better than the blurry shakycam video that has 250k views! I have noticed this for other rides as well and I'll never understand it. Thanks for the video.
Great track, the roughness did get worse over the years apparently. I rode it in 2003 and loved it, I must have gone on it over 5 times because it had a short line.
Visited Cedar Point at least a dozen times before Mean Streak became Steel Vengeance, but I didn't ride it until it's last year of operation because I was afraid of how rough it would be. While it wasn't a smooth ride, I personally didn't think it was much rougher than the Blue Streak and I actually really enjoyed it. I rode it 3 more times that day. As I type this, I still have yet to ride Steel Vengeance, but even if I enjoy it, I'll still kinda miss the original track and wish I had given it a chance sooner. Glad that I can say I did though.
I would ride mean streak like 10x when I would go. No line. Still was scary how tall it was. Loved the structure. Loved the third drop with the camera. I love steel vengeance. tho i hate the restraints and seats. But man I was sad thinking of no wildcat, mean streak or wicked twister. Being scared of heights at the time. Those were perfect and I loved them along with maverick, blue streak, magnum. (Before I would ride MF, Dragster, shoot Raptor even. Now alll my favorites)

rose cohen it’s still there. But Cedar Point RMCed it, turned it into a hybrid coaster. They redesigned it using the original structure, with some tweaks, and renamed it Steel Vengeance. Its now the smoothest coaster I’ve ever been on.
1:45 I will say this. The hill leading up to the brake run is much more smooth on Mean Streak than on Steel Vengeance. I still get thrown to the side at that part on Steel Vengeance. I can't seem adjust for it. I always land on the side of the train. That's the only place it might hurt me.

I rode this ride once and it gave me a concussion, ruined my trip. Whoever had the idea to get this coaster RMC’d? Genius. You managed to turn one of the worst coasters I’ve ever ridden into my favorite coaster in the world. Steel vengeance is a masterpiece.
Hm. The technology advanced even tagging along with wooden coasters. I guess since engineers are smoothing the wood (as you said before with "incredibly smooth") that nowadays are making the train feel like as if you rode on a flat surface.
Everyone wants huge smooth steel coasters now. Anyone complaining about a rough ride didn't grow up with wooden coasters. OF COURSE IT'S ROUGH, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE. I recently rode Mystic Timbers at Kings Island, a smooth wood coaster, boring ride. Valravn & Rougarou at CP, 2 more smooth steel coasters, both boring. They lack character.

I miss this ride. It was one of my favorites at Cedar Point. I refused to ride in any row but the front because it killed you anywhere else.

By happenstance I rode this the first year it was open and the last year it was open. Two different rides.
