I'll freely admit that there's not a chance in hell I'd be able to name 100 women in any reasonable time frame. Like Doug, I don't know celebrities at all, so maybe I'd be able to get 50 just going off the few I do know and historical figures. That sort of challenge caters to the kind of people who obsess over celebrities more than it celebrates women in general.

Yeah it's more of a celebration of pop culture than actually celebrating women I agree. I would struggle to name 100 famous men just as much.
As someone who also would most definitely fail a list of either, I still think that its a good means of awareness, getting streamers and their audiences to wrack their brains and actively think about women in general but by no mean do I see it as a legitimate measure of irl female awareness/care of whoever participates (especially since most searchable people in general are a fraction of the global population and are quite unnecessary for an average person to know, much less personally care for to keep memorized).

I've seen MBT do well with the 100 girl challenge, but he did name 100 female yugioh cards much faster to his chagrin.
The name 100 woman thing is really dumb because put anyone on the spot like that and they freeze up. It's like going up to my friend and saying "Tell me a joke." well they won't be able to because I put them on the spot.

Even without the month as context, I don't think its hard to grasp or be chill with the fact that it was intentionally only including women. Its almost as if that was the point. By your way of thinking, if you did end up doing a list for both men and women, I should be saying "but what about all the nonbinary people? Why aren't you doing one for them? You should do this for every gender or not at all!". Your feelings are your own so tone down on the projection. No need to be so pressed about people just naming women Xl

I decided to do the "name 100 women" challenge myself in response to this, and it's deceptively difficult. Took me 27 minutes and delving into some of my more niche knowledge, but I did manage it.
Men was definitely a lot easier though, only took me like 10 minutes to reach 100 there.

@@PatchouliKnowledge22 no, the point is to get people to think about well-known women and reflect on what their knowledge-base means. You’ll notice that a lot of the time he would be trying to think along certain lines and realize “oh, that’s a very male-dominated space” or “oh, the types of interactions I have in my professional life are shaped in a certain way.” Or in some other places, trying to think of women based on “who’s had a scandal” or “who is so-and-so’s wife” also says a lot about how we regard well-known women. It’s not the case with all of them, but to get to 100 it inevitably comes up. It would be really interesting to try the same thing with well-known men and see if similar patterns emerge (I suspect they wouldn’t).

For fantasy novels by women, check out Kelley Armstrong. She wrote an urban fantasy/mystery series called Otherworld about supernatural women. Includes werewolves, witches, ghosts, necromancers, and half-demons. The werewolf novels were compared to Anne Rice's work on vampires. Highly recommended. It has 13 books in the series, and I recommend starting sequentially from her website.

I don't like this challenge. I don't see what's wrong with a man mostly following and being interested in the lives of men; literally every single person I choose to spend time around is a woman, how's that different? Also, I don't think I could name 100 _people,_ of any gender -- I don't follow news or current media, and the identities of people just don't interest me.
I really can't imagine what point they think they're making honestly. As a dude I don't pick people's name to remember based on their gender and I 100000% believe nobody else does either.
And indeed if someone has interests that are gonna have them mostly following male-dominated or even fully male things - e.g. liking most major sports (where nobody, including the women, do not really watch women's versions) - they're gonna mostly be able to name men.
If I started naming just any public figures off the top of my head I don't know if men or women would fill a list of 100 first, and I sure a hell aren't gonna let anyone tell me the result means anything related to how much of a feminist or progressive or whatever I am lol

@@JohnDBlue i think both you and the OP are taking the challenge way too seriously. the challenge isn't meant as some sort of massive statement or to demean people who get a bad time, it's lighthearted and riffs on peoples' inability to do simple things under pressure, and that it was women's history month when the challenge was paoted. the humor somewhat lies in the fact that it's parodying "gotcha" type questions by playing into "if you can't do this you're sexist" which is a massive oversimplification the the reader is intended to pick up on.
