Long-time viewer, first-time commenter -- thank you for this video, Daryl! I was looking for this exact video since Both released these movers (trying to verify their claims before buying them myself) and I'm SO glad you covered this so comprehensively. I'll be awaiting your follow-up video about if they last the duration of a reception but this video brought me such good peace of mind. Thank you again.
Hi Daryl, you did a review of battery powered lights a few days ago. Were those the same as these? They looked the same. If not, which ones do you like better? The descriptions look the same.
I gotta say i'm really impressed with these movers. Finally an afordable moving head with decent tilt! My only 2 problems with them are the power brick (can't charge them using just a normal powercon cable) and the unusable gobos (i know it's a beam. Not a spot)
Yeah I really like spot gobos too, and I miss that. Idk if they have plans to do a moving head spot in the future. It does come with the power brick that you need!
You always have great reviews! I’m on the edge to purchasing them. Any new updates on these (battery life, brightness)? I can’t wait to see your initial review during your latest gig.
I just used these for 5-hours straight at a wedding and it still had 50% battery. I just posted a gig log where you can see many examples of these being used and determine if you like the brightness
Love your video's Daryl, they are so informative. Both lighting have told me that they are relising a spot version next month, will you be doing a review? I would love to buy the spot version and really trust your opinion. Thanks for all your time and help, kind regards from sunny Cyprus.
I'm impressed as well. I payed 1600 for Chauvet 355 irc in white 6 years ago. If I can set with iec cables is a no brainer. Than add wireless dmx wow. I'm sold lol
Definitely interested. I’ve been doing much more outdoor events lately and have began building out my battery rig as an upsell. (Beach party and middle of the woods events) these would be great for just some light movement. With the portable totems
@@DJDarylBennettthe specs say the whole unit is 150watt (two motors, electronic board, the fan intelf, and of course the LED). Thats how the math got to 3.5h. If you have a kill-a-watt, just unplug the battery and measure how many watts it drains when operating (moving+light at 100% + fan continuously goin) and you’ll have a good idea if it’s truly 150w.
@@Realdjheisenberg the fan doesn't constantly run based on a few hours of running on my end and obviously movement, light intensity all play an aspect in how long it will last.
Thanks for this video! I don't use moving heads now, but this makes me want to add them to my setup. I am working toward an all battery powered lighting scenario, and this would fit right into that. Would you mind telling me the model of the soft bag you were using?
Really want to buy these to upgrade my setup for weddings, they're so convenient, but I'm not still sure if it will be enough wash light with these and 4/6 both lightning tubes. What are your thoughts? thank you for sharing this review so quickly!
I’d love to see how big the prism gets in a venue. The idea of battery power is very enticing but my current sheds movers have a prism effect that fills the dance floor. Not sure I can give that up. Do these prisms get any larger than what you have in the video?
That's as big as they get, so probably no 40-60 angle coverage like a prism spot. But I'm using these at a big tent wedding, so I'll make a gig log showing what that looks like
They took a while to ship and I asked about it and they said that they wanted to test the battery life further. But I think they're out now. Mine were just shipped last week
Daryl, appreciate your videos and thorough information always! I'm new to the lighting game and looking to really enhance that moving forward - do you think these would be a good pick up for someone who's newer to DMX and lighting in general or would I be better off going with a wash or wash mover like the FX Hex or the Aura 19x15's from Both? For extra context I just picked up an AI Lightshow controller, have been planning to heavily invest some time into making my light show pop!
I like the colorkey 150 for portability and simplicity: amzn.to/3YHaKIw The Wash FX would also be good. I think a good wash and uplights is a better first step before movers.
@@DJDarylBennett thanks for the reply! I do already have a Gigbar 2 and 16 Both IR4's, so trying to replace the gigbar with a couple lighting fixture's on totems. So many great options, hard to decide on what to pull the trigger on!
Another great video Daryl - thank you. Do these moving heads feature any preset modes that move to the sound of the music that is being played? Would you recommend these to someone that has zero interest in learning dmx?
Tbh I was in a hurry to get this video out there and haven't tested the sound active mode yet. I totally can if there's some interest. No wires and being able to master/slave these wirelessly is super cool imo
@@DJDarylBennett Nice one. If you get an opportunity to test out Sound Active Mode and share your thoughts that would be great. Very keen to see if these can be easily used without DMX. Thank you for the great videos you produce.
The shortcut update with these will be released after the SoundSwitch 2.9 release. I'm going to do 1-year free updates, and ask that people email me for a new link. I may also try to gather an email list.
I better work some overtime, Please take my money. I assume a powercon can be connected while using the light and if power drops off the battery will automatically kick in?
@@DJDarylBennett I mean, there's 3 issues. 1. a beam light really struggles in anything but dark. 2. It also struggles in it's effect w/o haze involved (the beam itself is the best part, not the gobo), and 3. battery powered anything is only helpful when dealing with multiple fixtures imo like the tubes....so sure, if for some wacky reason you wanted to use 8 of these, that would make sense. But 2? Not worth it in the long run.
I don’t understand the point of the battery powered moving heads. You’re dealing with a heavier light that costs more and has less output just to avoid running a couple cables.

Battery powered moving heads are cool. However I’d have to agree with you that they need to last 7-10 hours.
Thank you

What's the best portable totem, in your opinion, for this moving heads? Greatings from Portugal!!!
Standard 2m aluminum truss is the most sturdy and useful. The Rockville RTP go are my favorite for portability

That's the plan. It'd be awesome if they sent it to reviewers prior to release but that's not really their style

I think these would be awesome for offgrid events. I'd maybe strap these to the top of portable totems
Daryl, are you able to update the SoundSwitch shortcut with this fixture (BO-100B-B) as mentioned in this video?
Yes I did, for v2
I’ve had the Chauvet Battery Powered Spots for a year. Love them. They are DEFINITELY bright enough and the battery lasts over 8 hours.
Personally I think 60w is great for most wedding DJ applications, but that's the feedback I've been given.
Isn't 8-hours at 1/2 power though?
@@DJDarylBennett I think so. I run them in 8 hour mode and they are still bright.
30volt x 18amp/h = 540 w/h. So at full power you’ll get about 3.5h of battery max
I guarantee you the LED is not driven at anywhere near 100 watts.
@@croissantproductionsI guarantee you the battery isn’t anywhere near 18amp/h either
The 6.2h figure was the result of testing I was told 🤷Maybe it isn't being driven at 100w, but I'll update my real world test in the next gig log

Loud fan, I wonder if there's a setting in it that can cut that down?
The fan helps it not overheat and damage it or catch on fire. Loud music is the cure

Depends on how much wash you want on your dance floor. You can also use a couple of IR4s to wash as well, shining right on the floor
They use Powercon as a charching port? Can't wait for someone to plug them into 110v
Wow, yeah....not sure about that one, LOL...
It's what the Aero Spot 60 also uses 🤷
@@DJDarylBennett It is indeed. But the Aero spot 60 takes 110v AC and not Battery voltage DC
