@@antonior4220 It makes you wonder who they consult for history - because either they do that or have some artists who consult historical artwork themselves. While their "grounded" swords aren't super accurate, their grounded armor seems to have a lot of thought put behind it compared to many franchises. Comparing their original Fluted set to the lame redone version by Bluepoint is probably the best example I can come up with.
I dunno if it would be possible with swords, but the machine shop I work at does a lot of work with stainless steel. When you heat treat stainless to 900F using the H900 heat treating method, it turns a beautiful golden bronze color. We only get it up to 43-46 on the Rockwell scale though, and I believe swords have to be a lot harder than that. Still be cool to see a sword made from stainless and heat treated that way though, even if it would be a wall hanger.
@@murphsmodels8853 I mean, bronze swords were a thing and are way softer than steel ones. You basically fix the dents on them by hammering them cold. So I don't think it'd be an issue to use your treatment, might be cheaper than using bronze too !
Surprisingly not accurate. The Coiled swords edge isnt blunt, just twisted around. The blade would actually be MORE dangerous then your standard blade simply due to the particulars of parrying. With that design, a bladed parry would result more then likely in your blade twisting out of your hand and the Coiled sword slicing happily into your forearm. Edit: with a solid sheild, this would cease to be an issue, but even then actually blocking with a shield is like to shatter your arm.
The coiled sword is more than a weapon. Its a symbol of how something created as a weapon has evolved into a central tool of keeping the world alive. Even if it no longer serves its original purpose, it now serves a much greater one.
The onyx sword from the game is pretty cool looking. You can tell the developers really put time in designing some of these swords, maces, axes and hammers
Absolutely gorgeous! What would happen to the sword of you were to leave it in the centre of a bonfire for a long time? Would the sword weaken and break from the heating and cooling?

I’d love to see the sword of Astora though, probably the most iconic sword that managed to be in more than one darksouls (except the coiled sword of course). Technically speaking only the starting weapons made it through all three games unchanged, but I don’t think it’d be really all that impressive to have them create « generic straightsword nº288401 » ^^’
*starting weapons and Ornstein’s spear + 2/3 of BK weapons
Morion's blade? XD
@@hornet6679 that one is very nice too. I totally forgot it :o
I was literally just watching a Dark Souls 3 video and then this notification popped up. Can't wait to see you guys link the First Flame with this bad boy.
Seriously this is such a sick build. Dark Souls is also still sorely underrepresented in fantasy sword replicas.
@@limonbattery yeah, love the fact that FromSoftware mixes historical and wacky fantasy weapon designs without ruining the lore and aesthetics
9:50 BRUTAL seems he suffered from bloodloss. The unique look , methods implemented , the rough look and simplicity is amazingly beautiful. Well done.
I would love to be able to get my hands on one of those, it looks amazing!
4:54 u think we dont see Yhorm's greataxe back there? I hope we get a video for that
nah the onyx blade
You're tripping. Yhorm doesn't have a great axe lmaooo
It’s a machete, but he’s still right since the game puts it in the “greataxe” category, probably due to the moveset.
God I so hope to see you make a Golden Sun sword, Felix's concept art sword or the Gaia Blade with a bronze finish (if not a bronze blade)
Hmmmm
YES THIS!
@@ThatWorks so many good swords in golden sun plus a great game
@@murphsmodels8853 I mean, bronze swords were a thing and are way softer than steel ones. You basically fix the dents on them by hammering them cold. So I don't think it'd be an issue to use your treatment, might be cheaper than using bronze too !
9:50 - Uff looks like for this awesome blade, some actual blood has been shed - hope his hand is fine again!
A "That Works" video based around Dark Souls?! I don't think I've ever clicked a video faster in my life!
And we made one about a year ago too
After This
Well
Sword’s like This Are very Hard to Top Memetically
Immaculate Art
Beautiful Work
Thank You
My request has been listened by the forge gods
Glad we could help
Forge In Fire be like: Sir your sword wouldn't kill!
Could if you hit hard enough!
@@kevgmei i think thrusts should work as well
Surprisingly not accurate.
When forging a sword from the game is easier than the game.....
So true
"You have died" (This /is/ Dark Souls...)
But Dark Souls is incredibly easy?
@@kiwirar5885 i'd say it depends on the person
@@zoronic4345 Experience
The coiled sword is more than a weapon. Its a symbol of how something created as a weapon has evolved into a central tool of keeping the world alive. Even if it no longer serves its original purpose, it now serves a much greater one.
The onyx sword from the game is pretty cool looking. You can tell the developers really put time in designing some of these swords, maces, axes and hammers
You should try building the Gae Bolg (a mighty spear from Irish mythology) or an Executioner Sword
If you had to pick one though
@@ThatWorks Probably Gae Bolg, since I'm interested in what would be your interpretation of it.
Absolutely gorgeous!
What would happen to the sword of you were to leave it in the centre of a bonfire for a long time? Would the sword weaken and break from the heating and cooling?
something like that actually exists in dark souls 2! the primal bonfires have been around so long that their sword has melted in half - at least thats what i always assumed
i imagine you'd get a lot of deformation over time just from gravity and the weight of the blade
Damn... Now I wanna see them making the Mea Culpa from Blasphemous
Me too
A highly deatiled hilt i see
Doesn't that sword have thorns in the handle just like the start of the blade?
The handle is the picture of the virgin mary
@@aaronbustamante9282 Well, then I said nothing.
Letting the ashes fall out of your hand at the end was a nice Dark Souls touch
Watched roughly 30 videos before realizing I wasn't even subscribed. A video showed up on my feed a couple of weeks ago and they kept showing up. Now subscribe. I love videos and channels like this.
I physically need a great sword of judgment
Odd
I'd really like to see you guys build the AC Valhalla version of Excalibur. They reimagined it to be a relic from the first civilization instead of just a normal sword.
Hmm interesting
I can’t believe they were able to accurately capture the absolute crustiness of the coiled sword in real life
this is the most beautiful piece i have ever seen
Props to the smith on that great work. Very talented
Setting up the sponsor I thought he was gonna say it was grinder xD
lol
Prithee, be careful. I don't want to see m' work squandered!
literaly everyone: link the flame, ashen one
me: nah, but im keepin dis sword
so freaking epic looking sword the details are
exquisite, pure art.
When you said that you have to quench the chisel every few hits so that it doesn't "lose its temper"... I finally understood where that figure of speech came from!!
An interesting way of turning a sword in to not-a-sword
very true. to be fair its not a weapon in the game but more of a key
@@ThatWorks actually in Dark Souls 3, there's the firelink greatsword which is litteraly a thicker version of the coiled sword
@@WinterJack15 well yes but if you were fighting someone who was wielding say, a long sword, would you rather a regular long sword or the firelink greatsword?
@@nahrikkon i'll just go with lothric knight straight sword or the frayed blade
@@WinterJack15 bro they frayed blade? Would literally brake immediately if someone parried a thrust or slash
Me at 9:07:
Dear god, he's going to coil it before sharpening it? The absolute madman
Me at 10:05:
Oh.. I guess they just aren't sharpening it? Coiled club?
I mean to be fair a coiled sword is only useful as a club anyway so…
Any exotic sword from Destiny 1? Preferably either Young Wolf's Howl, Raze Lighter, or Dark Drinker
Hard to believe that we haven't yet.
Love the finesse and high quality of work you guys put into these weapons.
putting Johannes Bornlöf's music in man at arms' videos was literally the combo i didnt know I missed from my life
I like how blacksmithing today has basically turned to "I'm gonna make the least practical weapons that still somewhat resemble real weapons"
well the weapon is practical in where it comes from, its literally a sword that is lit ablaze by the the first flame, and during the soc boss fight its still smoldering hot like it just came out of a furnace, its more of a burning weapon, that & it can still impale you
@@tru3boc ………and the greatsword form has one secret power …………. To make you cry plin plin plon
To be fair I feel like we probably aren't going to be needing to actually use a sword in battle any time soon
