Great discussion! I think you put into words one of the big reasons I prefer thrifting to regular shopping for new stuff. I always feel excited and satisfied to find a piece that works when I am at the thrift store and appreciate it more. I have the "what-if" feeling and really high expectations for things I buy new and often feel a little disappointed by them if they aren't 100% perfect.

I have been thinking a bit about this is regard to my clothing. My youngest is now 17. When I was pregnant with him I had a limited wardrobe of maternity clothing that fit me. I remember picking out about 2 shirts, a tiered white skirt, a denim jacket, a pair of jeans from Gap maternity. I am sure that I had a few other things but not many. I had this very edited, capsule wardrobe and everything was SO EASY. I had nice pieces, too. Everything worked tighter and everything was in good condition. I plan on making a Summer capsule wardrobe for this season. I have a rack out and 4 things on it so far but that is as far as I have gotten so far. I just need to make the time to build a small amount of nice clothing that can all be worn together. I will have to revisit Madisun’s videos again for some inspiration.

Ohh this makes me want to try a capsule wardrobe as well! You’re right, there is something so simple and straightforward about dressing when pregnant, especially when you find what works. And it’s nice that you have that as a point of reference as you create your capsule this summer. Please let me know how it goes 😊

Yes!! Yes!! Yes!!! People need less options in order to appreciate what they have and enjoy it!!!
Your baby’s face at your blush application is everything 😂😂😂 Her face is like “What is she doing?!!!” 😂😂😂

@@tinyblackbird I need to work past the resistance that I have towards actually putting the capsule together now!

Madi Gray's video from last summer (I believe) on limitations got me thinking about this topic and I've been chewing on it for months now. Making my life have fewer options has slowly and subtly made me a more thankful and joyful person, but I've found that what you're saying is true for me too. Because our culture doesn't impose many limitations on us and has so many options, I have to be super intentional about setting my own boundaries to limit my options and give me the space to invest in my little corner of the world where God put me. Psalm 16:5-6 is a passage that I've memorized and reminds me that boundaries are good and that God gives us limits for our good and His glory, and it's a good exercise for me to live within those limitations rather than constantly be coveting what is outside of those boundaries.

Oh man, I love this. Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s definitely something that requires so much intentionality, but you’re right, it’s so worth it. Thankful that the boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places ☺️ (I can’t remember if I saw Madi’s limitation video, but I’m looking it up right now!)

I absolutely agree with this! Especially the TV show example. I absolutely used to enjoy the experience of watching and waiting for a show week on week, whereas now when a whole series is available I feel overwhelmed and will watch a few and then never finish the show! I think another way this is proven to work for me as well is when you go away and pack a selection of outfits and a small makeup bag. It’s no less fun getting ready in fact it’s usually more pleasurable because you’ve thought through the choices and know it’s going to work! I am trying to whittle down my “stuff” and find contentment in what I have and this way of thinking will definitely help!

I’m not sure if joy, but certainly satisfaction. When I lived abroad there was much less selection (fewer options in the grocery store, no Amazon where you could endlessly search reviews, etc.) and the things I had were good enough
