Since this is my first Retroid Pocket device, I almost certainly would have tried a PS2 game, found it unplayable, and given up right there without ever discovering the full potential of this cool and powerful handheld. How's your 1 month update in regards to PS2/Gamecube gameplaying?? My RP3+ is still on its way so i want to have a general idea how to get it ready to get the full potential since i primarily got it for PS1/PS2 gaming. do the individual game settings stay or do you have to readjust every time you open that game??
One thing I personally did to make controlling the emulator easier: Under Controller -> Hotkeys -> Open Pause Menu I bound Select&Start. Pressing them both then opens the AetherSX2 menu so you can close games easily.
You're my hero!! I couldn't get Wrath of Cortex running well even at 0.5x and realized having it not set to Vulkan was a major factor. Been testing games out and your vids have helped so much! Thank you!
If it wasn't for such helpful people like you, I would have lost faith in humanity long ago. Yes, I'm serious, it's a bit strange to comment these words under a Retroid Pocket 3+ tutorial video, but thanks to your video I'm now able to play almost every PS2 game at a constant framerate or at 100% speed (Is there an important difference between the two? Never mind.), otherwise I probably would have given up long ago and thrown the Retroid in the corner. Yes, I mean almost every game, because I just can't manage to adjust the settings of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII to get acceptable speed and visuals. With software rendering and all possible combinations of settings, I get 50% speed, and that's only when there's not too much going on on the screen. Of course, it could be that Dirge of Cerberus just doesn't run on the Retroid Pocket 3+ and that it's a waste of time to keep trying around, but what won't you do for nostalgia! If you have any tips that might fix this problem, I'd be even more grateful, if that's still possible. Have a nice day.

I’d love to see you try out the Ratchet and Clank games, can’t seem to get the first game running without some slow downs, especially when looking at the big cities.

Really?? Even when you tried the various options I introduced in the video? I just checked for you. Use a PAL rom for best performance, Vulkan, be certain threaded presentation is on, and then go to hardware download mode and switch it to "Disable Readbacks" and you really should be good to go. That last change seems to make a big difference for that game.I just fired it up and got myself through the intro part to test on a new device, just for you! Please do let me know if those settings work. If you drop the EE cycle to -3 it is running at mostly full speed and 1.5x resolution. Only seems to slow down a bit doing some battle animations.

hey question sir. why do we underclock and not overclock? doesn’t underclock mean that it draws less power and should theoretically not work as well? however, it solves almost every issue and i’m curious as to why???🤔 (im new in the scene btw)
Happy to help answer! Your logic is good, but the key thing here is you are underclocking the emulated PS2 CPU not the one in the RP3+. Effectively, you are making that CPU run slower than it originally did or skip some cycles. Most games didn't utilize all of its CPU cycles anyway so by skipping some you reduce the demands on the RP3+. Basically, the RP3+ now doesn't have to work as hard but the game still has enough power to do what it needs. You just aren't emulating the wasted clock cycles anymore. It won't work in every game, of course, and especially not ones that truly pushed the original hardware to its absolute limits. I hope that makes sense!
6:53 I have this perfomance issues even after the settings you made. I tested it on Need for Speed Most Wanted and Rayman 2, when I do the same settings you do, nothing changes.

Which version of AetherSX2 are you using? Cause I’m using the latest NetherSX2 version and I do not have an option to turn on ‘threaded presentation’. I’ve been told on the unofficial discord, that AetherSX2 ver.3668 also runs better on lower end hardware like the rp3+

that setting underclocks the emulated ps2. so that means the device has a an easier time emulating it since it is basically emulating a less powerful console.

Awesome videos. Question for the pro!! I’m on Mario 64 but some things aren’t working like doing the back flip. How do I map that stuff? Same with goldeneye. I can figure out how to get the gun to shoot.
I had the same problem for awhile, you can go in Profiles > Controller > then click "Hide Built-Ins" hit the "+" name it whatever and map your own buttons. For 64 I went with the Left analog as movement/D-pad as D-pad right analog as the "C" buttons Y as B and B as A, R/L triggers as normal and L2 as "Z" feels natural like the wonkyness of the original controller :)
Downloaded a ps2 bios file from coolrom, downloaded a rom for simpsons hit and run but for some reason I can't get it to play. I tried it on duckstation as well but only got a black screen

Hi, I just want to know if there is a way to make 2d characters in capcom vs snk2 on aethersx2 less pixelated? The background can be upped to 2 or 3x resolution but the characters resolution somehow don't changed.
I discuss this a bit in my setup guide. Some systems (including PS2) need a BIOS file. Unfortunately I can't share with you how to get that, but if you search on Google it should be quite easy to find.
Some guy on reddit said he could play need for speed most wanted in full speed. I just cant get it to work even GOOD. Any tips? It's the only game i want to play
I must say, I'm having a tough time trying to replicate these youtubers performance on my RP3+. In the Sly game, for example, even doing the exact same setup as you, my performance is way worse than what you are showing. Same thing with Wii, the only game I can run like the videos I saw is Klonoa. I wonder if these chinese handhelds have some performance difference between units.

All the people saying PS2 can't run on this device must expect the games to play without any tweaking. Laziness, lol...
The EE cycle skip underclocking feels like adding frameskips, which is why it then feels a little bit choppy, while running at full speed.

how long does the battery last when emulating PS2 from a full charge?
Depends on the game. I've gotten 5~6 hours out of most games. But something graphically intensive like Burnout might only last 3~4 hours.

I must say, I'm having a tough time trying to replicate these youtubers performance on my RP3+. In the Sly game, for example, even doing the exact same setup as you, my performance is way worse than what you are showing. Same thing with Wii, the only game I can run like the videos I saw is Klonoa. I wonder if these chinese handhelds have some performance difference between units.
