Okay, I'm an old fart who's been hobby woodworking for more years than you have been born. I found your site quite by accident. I find it both entertaining and informative - even learned a trick or two which is hard for an old dog. I'll be ordering one of your T-shirts in appreciation. Keep the fun in it! Thank you.
Hi! Thanks so much for your purchase and support of my small business! So happy to hear you enjoy the content and videos. Thank you so much for following along!
Good timing! I hated I had to pause the series and come back to the final video but I’m glad it’s finally out there ha. I hope you found the series helpful. Happy building! 🙌
Recently retired and taking up woodworking as a hobby. Watched a thousand videos on drawers, slides, etc. But this series finally has me ready! Thanks for your clear and thorough explanations
Your videos are sooooo educational. There are alot of things that just don't occur to you as a new woodworker and this series in particular has saved me alot of headaches and money!!!!
Thank you for making this series! For some reason, I was very intimidated by the thought of redoing my kitchen drawers, but after watching this series, you have given me the confidence :). Keep being awesome!!
I recently retired and decided to get back into woodworking. I hadn't been active for 10-12 years--no spare time. Now I have time. I chose a project with drawers and needed a good refresher. I watched all four of your videos--watched some of them multiple times. Very good, clear, and useful information. Thank you. The project turned out well and the drawers were a success. I am really enjoying your You Tube Channel. You do nice work. Thanks, again. Ron
I appreciate that even though you are a skilled mathematician, you give us a very pragmatic and achievable approach to woodworking such as "just eyeball it". Thanks
This series shows the thought and preparation you put into it. It was very well done and showed some great ideas and methods. Appreciate your straight forward approach to your videos and always pick up a tip or two along the way.
I appreciate the feedback! So glad it was helpful and made sense…sometimes I wonder if anything I say makes sense 🙈😅 Thank you for following along and watching! I truly appreciate it. Hope you have a great weekend!
Great job. This whole series has answered all of my questions re drawers so I'm one step closer to completing my shed (you call it "shop") fit out. Only issue I had was when you said read the instructions first for the Kreg jig. This is a concept completely foreign to me 😂😂
I which you would have been my school teacher. Everything was explained in such a precise way, step by step!!! I'm very happy and excited that I found your channel 😊.thanks a bunch ❤
Shara, thanks for another informative and entertaining video. The Kreg tools that I have, have worked so well (some took a little practice) that I've developed a respect for anything that company produces. I'm telling you I got a bit excited when I saw you use the drawer front mounting jig. Hmmmm......??? Summer here and I believe I'll be breaking out the sun block products for my yard and garden work (along with the bug repellants). You look way more happy and comfortable in a t-shirt and shorts than those winter things. Hugs to Lucy and Bubba! Thanks for Sharing!
Thank you so much for watching! I’m obviously a big fan of Kreg…they make some pretty handy jigs especially for cabinet making. I wish I had a better example to practice on, but I haven’t built anything with drawers since I got it and I wanted to hurry and wrap up this series and make this video. I’m sure I’ll be using it again in a future video and really get the full benefits of it. But for now, like you, summer is here and I’ve got some outdoor projects to tackle! Lucy and Bubby say hi 😁 have a great weekend!
I can’t keep up with all the things 🙈 I had to pause and come back to this last video but I’m so glad it’s finally out there and wrapped up! 🙌 I think Bubs hears my voice when I’m talking to camera and takes that as his cue to come help ha!
Hey Shara, I really appreciate how accessible your 4 part cabinet series is. i love that you encourage people to make sketches of the work. I think the examples/samples that you used with well-thought out differences to help teach lots of extra-helpful bits and pieces were clever. Speaking of clever, how about that ginger kitty?
This whole series was really well done. Enough detail and clear explanations (without being overly wordy) that anyone should be able to give it a go! For myself, I do not possess the talent you clearly have in pocket-hole-drilling and drawer-front-mounting that allows you to do those things freehand... my parts always seem to take a walk in relation to each other; I've long since resigned myself to mechanically securing them (your method #2 and/or pin nails). Nice to see Bubs (also no mice in sight!😆)
So happy to hear you enjoyed the series! Sometimes I wonder if anything I do or say makes sense and this was a little out of the norm for me. So I appreciate the feedback! Also, it’s always fun when Bubs can make an appearance 🤣 hoping he keeps the mice problem minimized 🤞😅
Love ALL of your projects and especially this drawer series! I usually struggle with this, but not any more! Btw, I use pocket whole screws with almost everything!
So glad to wrap this up. I wish I hadn’t taken so long to get this last one together, but glad it’s finally out there. I’m glad you enjoyed them. Now I’m drowning in actual projects I can’t wait to share 🤣 haha. Have a great weekend!
I have truly enjoyed and learned from this series. I think you do a wonderful job of explaining complex techniques in a clear method. I really liked the method of drilling the hole for the drawer knob to mount the drawer face. I wish I had thought of that myself. I look forward to your next series. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this information.
I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the series and found it helpful! I appreciate you watching and following along. 🙌 have a great weekend and happy building! 😊
I watched all of the other three as well as this one. Thank you so much for making this series, drawers and especially drawer slides have always been my nemesis, but now I'm feeling more confident that I can master making drawers for my house and shop!
Seen all 4 parts of the series now. Very good explained 👏 Now i'll translate imperial to metric 😂 and watch again 😂 But - no matter, i would be able to build drawers now, as the videos were really helpful! Just watch again because i'll understand the measurements better now 😊
Thankyou so much, this is exactly what I have been looking for, you answered all my questions in a very easy to understand way. I'm going to do this today.
You did a great job on this series Shara! It was very thorough and covered many different ways to do each step. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm sure it will be a big help to anyone learning how to do drawers. Looking forward to what projects you have in store next!!!
Call me sick, but I could definitely see a parody of the Gap Police entering someone's home to check their drawer front gaps. I wouldn't doubt that cabinet makers and installers are guilty of doing this. Thanks for the series.
Okay, someone somewhere may be beating down doors to measure drawer front gaps 🤣 but I’d bet it’s a rare occurrence haha. I’m laughing out loud imagining the gap police…thank you for that imagery!
I absolutely loved this series. I've made my own drawers before, but I'm never 100% happy with how they've turned out and I struggled with the spacing. the info on drawer fronts and the two ways to do drawer bottoms are gold. I've been woodworking and making just long enough to already know some of this, but the way you put it all together gives me something specific to reference. Now off to see if you've done something similar with cabinet's( building, doors and hanging);-).
This has been a great series! I’m so glad you shared all the little details and always explain everything so well. Even Bubba made an appearance! lol…. Thanks again and keep on building!
Nicely explained! I already started typing a comment to mention the trick with the pilot hole when you did the first drawer, but then of course you showed it 😂 I like Greg's jigs, but this one looks overly complicated and awkward to use.
I really wish I had a better example to show this jig on for this video. But I haven’t built anything with drawers since I got it and I really wanted to wrap up this series. So I just tested it out of a random quick fix. I think if I showed it installing fronts from scratch and from the bottom up (vs the top down), it would make a lot more sense and you wouldn’t see it that way. It’s really pretty simple though…clamp them on the drawer box, add shims, clamp on the front, screw in place. But, obviously, some people prefer different methods for everything. Hopefully I’ll build something else with drawers eventually to try this out again on a whole project (not a quick fix like this) to get the full feel of using it. We will see. I’ve got some outdoor projects to tackle first haha. I hope you have a great weekend and I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for sharing the drawer building series with us. You gave me many tips that I will use in my little shop. I saw the Glaze in the bottom drawer in this last video. I am hoping that you will do a tutorial on using this product. I'm curious about it, but nervous about trying it for the first time. It's so expensive that I'm afraid that I will make a costly mistake.
So happy you found these helpful! I actually did a sponsored campaign with them several years ago and used it to create a lazy Susan type project: www.woodshopdiaries.com/diy-wood-and-epoxy-lazy-susan/ I’ve not used it since (these boxes are pretty old now haha) because I kind of hate epoxy 🤣 but it was a pretty simple formula to use and I love that is comes in already tinted colors. As long as you keep temps around 70ish or so and you mix them the right ratio (if I remember right, these are a simple 1-1), it’s nothing to be nervous about!
Thank you Shara for these tips and trics. As you might know, men hate reading manuals/instructions so ..... glad there are Shara's 😀in this world. Just one question: when do you Americans switch over to the metric system. As for me (Dutchman) things would be much easier to understand without having to calculate from imperial to metric. Just buy a measuring tape with both (imperial and metric) measurement markings and experiment with metric. I know you grew up with the imperial system but (dear) Shara ...... the metric system is so much easier when you're used to. See you in your next build.
Haha so glad you find it helpful! The controversy between imperial and metric continues to be an ordeal 🤣 I don’t know why it is the way it is. I just go with it.
@@WoodshopDiaries You seem to me such an independed woman, so you can make the difference 🙂Start a petition SHARA FOR METRIC ! (just kidding, keep using imperial, I'll get over it ....... sometime soon)
Very nice video Shara! Just a minor detail. The holes drilled for a screw to pass through without threads grabbing are called “clearance holes,” not “pilot holes.” John Jensen from British Columbia
Thanks so much for watching! The definition of a pilot hole is: a small hole drilled as a guide for the insertion of a nail or screw, or for the drilling of a larger hole. Maybe “clearance hole” is another term for it. But these are, by definition, pilot holes 😊
Haha I mean…when in doubt, check the manual 🤣 I’m glad you enjoyed the series! I appreciate you watching and happy you picked up a few things along the way!
I am building closet inset drawers and your tutorial vids have been very helpful. I do have one question to get conformation though. Do you leave a 1/4 inch over hang of the facial board from the bottom of each drawer?
So happy you find them helpful! Also, the amount the drawer front overhangs the bottom will depend on how the slides and drawer boxes were installed. This amount will vary, so it’s not always any one specific amount.
Okay, I'm an old fart who's been hobby woodworking for more years than you have been born. I found your site quite by accident. Do you have brand of drawer handles that you like?
What is the easiest type of drawer and drawer front for beginners? Thankyou
A slab style (just a flat piece of plywood) is the easiest drawer front I’d say. Just cut it to size and attach it to the drawer.
Do you ever use the " playing card" method?
I don’t. I don’t use any kind of spacers. Just eyeball it
