    One other point… it is not enough for your manager to know your accomplishments. Make sure your manager’s manager knows who you are and the value you create for the company/org. As painful as it sounds to some, your #1 job is to advertise yourself to the senior leadership team.

      🎯 This! ...I came into a crucial role that half the team left during the pandemic. I stayed & never in entire career worked so hard. ....I don't get a raise, nor the earned promotion in those 3 long years. All I received, was true burnout. I hope to never be even close to that situation again. 🙏🦋 And the kicker, truly the bosses boss didn't know anything about my hard work.

    Thank you for the video! I hate to say it though, but this is probably a big reason why more employees are just deciding to go job shopping after a year or two instead of spending the needless time broadcasting their workload or grooming a company image 24/7. It’s easier to spend six months looking for the next position than a year or two hoping an opportunity opens up above you.

    It really sucks when your job is actually important, your workload is too heavy to slack off and spend more time socializing, and managers do not understand your job at all, so they refuse to do anything about your workload and think you're just being lazy and will keep note of the fact that you've complained. Meanwhile, certain individuals win the lottery when they barely do any work and manage to get promoted to a position where they... barely do any work. Execs are the worst decision makers.

    • @asadb1990
      @asadb1990 Месяц назад

      Thats on you for working too hard. If you work harder to get more done, bosses will get raises for job well done for squeezing more work from you. If you slowed down and only did a certain level, bosses will realize more work needs to be done.

    • @chibiusa
      @chibiusa Месяц назад

      @@asadb1990 There's no such thing as "slowing down" in a deadline-oriented job in a cutthroat industry that churns and burns through its employees. LOL. Maybe you're imagining some typical office job, but the entertainment industry is not so kind to complainers or anyone who speaks up. Periods of crunch are a norm, and work distribution is horribly uneven.
      I'm sure other industries have similar issues. But sure, blame the worker instead of the crappy boss who clearly does not pay attention to their employees or the work environment. It's not like part of their job requirement is being a great communicator, managing people, and boosting morale. /s 🙄

    I've tried to play the corporate game. Always did more than I needed to. Most managers and Leads loved that but most of my co-workers didn't. I tried to socialize with people. Make friends not enemies. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts people in upper management would get mixed ideas about me cause of the split between co-workers and leadership. At one company not much came of it except that they won't rehire me. At my last job a board member who I never met didn't like my opinion and despite what everyone else said, he chose to fire me. Since he held the majority votes on the board, more than half, whatever he said, goes. So despite talking about a promotion one day, the next I was fired. So you can have a great image but that doesn't mean you'll get promoted or even keep a job. Now I'm six months in to job hunting and I'm experiencing constant rejections despite being qualified and interviewing well, or so I've been told. It's pretty rough.

    I am in an interview process with a company. In my research I saw a video of people being rewarded. One of the rewards was to recognize the person who facilitates community in the office and tries to make everyone feel included. So this company apparently does value the citizenship, service, thankless stuff. I understand that I shouldn't expect it to be common though.

    Yes, yes, yes! I vouch for everything presented in this video! This information is valuable as gold. Learn about P.I.E. (Performance, Image, Exposure). To get promoted, spend more time selling your work, touting your efforts, and signaling every energy you put toward tasks that lead to your outcome. It is all about perception. Play the game cleverly and you will find amazing success. Work less, socialize more. You will be happier and have less stress. This video should have hundreds of thousands of hits!!! Thank you so much. I wish I was taught this knowledge much younger in my career. It would have likely moved me up the ranks so much faster and higher!

      If you are going to pursue this strategy, you need to do it right from the start, before you get a reputation for being a hard worker. Because once you've established yourself as being responsible and hard working, you will not be allowed to lower your standards. This is not just my opinion. I actually had a college professor say that in one of my classes. She said, now here is something about the work world that nobody will tell you because they are not being honest. You will not be rewarded for standing above the crowd. You will be punished. Why? Because employers know they can keep you in the same position and pay while getting maximum worth for you. And if you leave and they have to hire two people to replace you, they still win because it will cost them less to pay those two people than to pay you what you really are worth. So don't go above and beyond. Stick to the average right from the start.

    While this is more or less universal, I really think it depends on the kind of work that is being done. I have noticed that 99% of workplace advice deals with office situations. After spending most of my life in cubicle-land I ended up running an injection molding press in a factory. Let me tell you, factory culture is a LOT different than office culture. I honestly think that you are more likely to be rewarded for hard work if you are in a factory. Certainly I felt far more valued in my six years of factory work than I was in 37 years of working in a cubicle. I was given far more responsibilities right off the bat. Yes, there are slackers, but they tend to get weeded out. Also, that cushy office job that you probably went into massive debt to pay for your college education--I hate to say it, but it has a sell-by date. You may find yourself, as I did, out on the streets and unable to find a comparable position because you are nearing retirement age. That's how I wound up running a plastics press. Because they don't practice age discrimination in those places. As long as you can physically do the work, they will keep you on. When I retired at 65 my boss was not happy to see me go and told me, any time you want to come back, you can. I hear he still is asking about me. So, just saying.

    It's especially rough when you have been taught all your life that hard work, punctuality, cleanliness and not to moan will get you far. In today's society, that is not true. You have to sell yourself, not be ambitious. Ambition will only get you into a job when all eyes are on you in the beginning, not grow inside of a large company, when everyone who should care, has too much to do themselves to even notice you. Years of lazy people getting respected, treated well and get payed more have taught me this. As long as the hard workers suck it up and get the job done, all is fine. In Germany we have a saying "Jeder ist seines Glückes Schmied" (Man forges his own destiny) and through years of experience; That is no true. There are too many people in your way ready to ruin your mood, day or life for their benefit or the benefit of someone he knows. It's a free for all with nepotism. Times have changed and so should you. Like the saying goes "Move With the Times, or the Times Will Move Without You".

    I really love this video especially for younger workers. However, as an experienced person who has tried EVERYTHING, I think we need to look at the dysfunctions of organizations. Since the recession, most Gen X believe having a job is good enough. I haven't seen anyone promoted since I started working in the '00s. Also, I've seen some of the most toxic situations where HR is aware of them but their hands are tied to. I think we need to be very aware of 'Disney-fying' the workplace when it's truly only a place to work. I think a more helpful video might be on how people get promoted by making their boss feel comfortable, doing the easy jobs or staying out of the line of fire. Or maybe something on how to hold organizations to account or which organizations are the healthy ones that people should want to work at. Anyway, my $.02, thank you for all you do!!!

    I wasn't the one doing the organizational citizenship behavior and only been at my company for almost two years, but another employee having been there for twenty years did do that behavior. Long story short, I had showed my boss how I track daily orders using pivot tables and a dashboard that I had made, providing analytics to the team's work. Later on, the one who was volunteering and doing all the coworker get togethers got laid-off, and I got promoted. It was surreal to me since it was my first corporate job.
