Thank you! I did experience the "pyramid scheme." They seem to be alive and well in 2023, and thankfully, being a bit older and wiser in life, I didn't fall for it for this time. Classic symptoms: ambiguous pay structure (i.e. you don't know if it's salary or commission only; "uncapped" commissions), group interviews; rapid, high-pressure interview usually done via a group panel of 3 or interviewers, who spent maybe 30 minutes promising big incomes (via commission only of course).

One place had the cheek to have asked me what my appointment had been for after I rang them to apologise for not having been able to have made their original date and time and had said that an urgent matter had come up so that was no longer possible so we rearranged for another day and at the interview they had asked me what was that appointment for?
OK it wasn't anything that was private as it was a gas safety check but that's not the point as they had no business asking what peoples appointments are for!
I feel that by accident when that gas safety check was booked on the day that interview was originally due to have taken place by accident when they did that they stopped me from having made a big mistake as when I got asked what had that appointment been for it showed the true nature of the place!
I had left the interview hoping I wouldn't be offered the job but I was and with confidence I was polite and said thank you for the offer but no thanks and I feel it was the right decision!

I once got a job offer for a small company that claimed to be like Google lol. HR sent me a job offer 2 days after the interview and only gave me 24 hrs to make a decision. The pay was low so I tried to renegotiate, but she said NO. A week later, I saw the same job post, and 2 weeks later she edit the job description focusing on how wonderful it would be to work there, claiming that they take their employees to so many team-building activities and give donuts and bagels once a week AND they increase the salary to what I have previously asked for. new, untried company with crazy expectations like, “Can you get elephants and giraffes to our grand opening?” (in a small space),
asked, “yeah, but what’s the least you’ll take?”,
asked “you’re willing to outside market, clean toilets, make meals, and lead the team, as necessary, right?” and
family run, kinda reminded me of the Bluths from Arrested Development, each with competing priorities and expectations.

I wish I didn't take a job that I never applied for. I was in and out within a month. The biggest sign that the company was not one to work for was that the hiring manager admitted they had to let someone go because 'it just wasn't going in.' The same thing essentially happened to me but in retrospect it was actually not likely the employee, it was the fact that the managers had unrealistic expectations of what their employees could achieve within such a short space of time.

Another point to add that happened to me is I was bait and switched regarding the pay. My last company, I accepted the offer assuming they were going to pay me for what I asked, and after I signed the contract, they said "Oh, no you're getting paid this much less amount." They told me I could stay or leave. I should have left to be honest, but I ended up working there for 6 years and having to fight for my raises the whole time.

    1. Their business model
    2. Unrealistic Expectations but don’t have support in that role (for example; get hired for manager but you gotta do it alone so you should say I’m not doing this role unless I get 2 people hired to help achieve this outcome)
    3. Inadequate compensation (do salary research)
    4. Lack of boundaries (intense working) anything that costs you sanity is not worth it
    5. Employee turnover (do information interview with current/ last employees) (ask them why the last person leave)
    6. Too fast to give you an offer (High roles take a week or many weeks)
    7. They are pursuading you. They want to sell the outcome but not how they do it.

So many red flags was dismissed because I was attracted to the salary and the title. They only gave me a few minutes to read the contract , I had to start the exact same day. There was no sick pay for the first year . My small company wasn’t paying for on time external services, so it affected my performance. I was continously having to pay my students for resources , travel and be told “I’ll get reimbursed”. So it affected my finances . I was also being bullied everyday , experienced racism , I quit 3-4 months in. Never again will I comprise my dignity for an attractive salary.

Just went out of the 3rd phase of interview process. Got a phone call 3 hours after my presentation with an offer. Quite generous, but just about 5% improvement of what I have now...Same title, same job, but 4 times smaller company. What is most worrying is a request to give a reply by tomorrow morning and terminate contract by the end of the month (4 working days left). Despite I struggle with my current company, I feel it's a big risk taking into account that I have to relocate with family and will be working in 3-rd league company of the industry....What do you think?

PSSI works you 7 days a week and no breaks or lunch breaks. No days off just slave labor.

After college, I had difficulty getting a job in my field. A place I had worked one summer had a job opening, but you worked 7 days a week, no time off, horrible hours, and the people there were terrible. One even almost punched me in the face. I decided not to interview there.

Hi. I just got an offer by one of the companies I applied. But they said to me that it's a month on month contract with 2.5k salary while on the portal they post 2.8k - 3k. Should I accept or reject it?? Advice pls

I feel like if I ask the right questions I won't start working sooner. If the organization is very anal about time worked that is a red flag. You won't make enough money even as a full time employee.
