    Okay listen, this isn’t talked about a lot, but when I found this out it changed my LIFE with my colicky baby. Apparently, your body makes milk for different points in the day, meaning that when you’re about to go to bed, milk literally produces chemicals to help the baby SLEEP (melatonin + tons of others). Basically, your milk helps your baby with their circadian rhythm. When I started labeling the time on the bag of milk after pumping and then giving my baby bottles that were pumped at/around the time I was feeding them a bottle-life CHANGING! Fixed my baby’s colic!
    So tip:
    Pump, label the date AND time, feed baby bottles pumped around the same time you’re feeding them.

    • @jennagrace1534
      @jennagrace1534 4 года назад +125

      DG Yes! Your body makes milk for your specific baby for it’s needs in that moment. If your baby is sick, it will have antibodies in it that will help it get better. When pumping, it is recommended to give your baby the most recent pump and work backwards to the oldest milk because the most recent pump will be closest to what the baby needs at that time!
      Breast milk is SERIOUSLY so COOL! It’s like magic.

    When my mom was pregnant with me, she had a very specific dream that my dad actually turned into a short film when I was a teenager (I’m 34 now). She dreamed that i was born and i was a kidney bean. A little, actual bean. And she was so nervous, cuz i was so small, she was scared someone would squish me. So she opens a book and places the bean (me) in the middle of the open book, so it doesn’t fall. Then my dad walks in the room, takes the book, and slams it closed and starts yelling at her for leaving open books laying around. So he killed me, the bean. Lol it’s crazy, 35 years later she still remembers the dream extremely vividly.

    Tip 1: just buy a pack n play that has a changing table and removable bassinet. In the beginning you don’t need to buy a separate bassinet and can keep the pack n play next to your bed and remove the bassinet and bring it around the house with you. Saves money and more practical then having multiple products. These pack n plays with removable bassinets also have music and vibrating on some of them, etc.
    Tip 2: Definitely get a boppy because its so useful for breastfeeding it makes it so much more comfortable. The dockatot is so expensive and its actually just for the baby to lay and lounge in. Boppy also has their own version of the dockatot and its so much more affordable, although the boppy version is more keeping the babies head elevated and propped up but cradles their body too as where the dockatot the baby can lay flat.
    Tip 3: get a High Chair that can later turn into a little table and chair for them and has a tray for the chair etc for when they are a toddler. Saves so much money down the road.
    Tip 4: There are baby swings that double as a bouncer/vibrator as well and the seat/bouncer is removable, so you don’t have to buy both separately and have many bulky products.
    In reality most people have their babies in the same room for the first 6 months or so don’t feel bad having the baby in your room for as long as you want. However, my 8 year old still wants to sleep in our room every night 😳 😂
    Yes for sure the ligament pain feels like you just pulled a friggin muscle from lifting a million pounds or something.
    And moving with a newborn would be horrific, praying your house comes together long before.

      I don’t understand why u would recommend the Boppy for her. NO OFFENSE AT ALL TO KRISTI or even to you, but I have a smaller waist than her & it doesn’t fit around me. Can u honestly not tell that the hole isn’t big enough for ppl who are even slightly overweight? I don’t get it, lol, it’s bizarre that ppl don’t realize that.... when u think about it now that I mentioned that, does it make sense?

    • @lifeandbeautybys
      @lifeandbeautybys 4 года назад +15

      Christina Fernandez I am plus size and overweight and I used it just fine. Sometimes I would just turn it to the side, whichever side I was feeding on or holding the baby with and it worked and was comfy. You don’t have to fit it directly in front of you, you can use that u shape to your advantage.

      @@christinafernandez243 wow your comment sounds rude. The boppy is amazing! You dont need to sit up and have it go around you every time to use it. In fact i hardly ever used it that way. I would put my baby in it and just lay beside her to feed her. It was great because she would nap in bed with me sometimes and i liked having her in that so it was less likely for her to get rolled on with that cushion and protection around her. Lol. The boppy can be used in many ways. I think Kristi would love it.

    My sister gifted my cousin this Owl plushie that makes soft noises... mimicking heart beats, white noise, etc. to relax the baby. It has a motion sensor so only goes off when the baby is awake.
    My cousin said it was a life saviour. Her baby slept for full nights really early on.
    Her daughter is now about 18 months now and is still obsessed with it

    Just saying a baby swing that swings horizontally, a mobile that plays nursery rhymes or lullabies, and a tummy time pillow helper will be a LIFE SAVER! My son is 4 months old and literally due to those three things he slept so perfectly and the swing calms him so easily. Then the mobile helps him fall asleep so peacefully and helped him get enough motivation to start reaching and grabbing for things. Then the tummy time helper pillow ( I got the giraffe one from Walmart) helped him be comfortable with tummy time and build muscle so easily he’s sitting up unassisted and has complete head control. Ima single mom and being a one man army with it and literally makes a world of difference! Good luck kristie! 💜

      @SamanthaD89 4 года назад

      It’s not safe to have a crib with the side down. The AAP recommends all cribs and pack and plays be at least a foot away from the bed. If you have the side down and it’s net to your bed baby can easily suffocate if they get stuck in the space where the crib meets the bed. Please only use a crib or pack and play with all 4 sides up.

    • @sammueller4503
      @sammueller4503 4 года назад +1

      If you have the crib up against your bed, this option can be very safe and sanity saving. Just make sure it is secured somehow. Some parents use straps to attach the legs of the crib to the adult bed. Others use a wall to keep the crib from pushing away from the adult bed. Whatever method you choose, just make sure there's no gap between the bed and the crib.

She also sleeps on the couch downstairs now that she's in her last trimester. So I’m gonna insert my personal opinion here: andddddd you may already be completely on top of this!!! But getting therapy now before the baby gets here would be so helpful for you moving forward! I have bad anxiety and never got help, so parenting became overwhelming and my anxiety over Every. Little. Thing. Got out of control. I also think I may have projected it onto my son a little bit. So getting help before all of THAT happens, would have been ideal! Just trying to help out, from one anxiety sister to another ❤️

      Yes! I've had a touch of anxiety my entire life and as my pregnancy progressed it got worse and worse. I ended up being diagnosed with post partum anxiety after i had my son. It was like my normal anxiety times 1 million. It got to the point where i would go days at a time with no sleep because i HAD to stay up all night listening to him breathe or i convinced myself something horrible would happen. I never got help or anything and my son just turned 4 and the anxiety has eased but only a little. I wish i would have gotten help during pregnancy to prepare me for after delivery.

    My advice: set up the nursery in the separate room and put baby in a bassinet right next to your bed. That way when you’re ready to make the transition, everything is already set up in their room and you don’t have to move everything! This is what my fiancé and I do, and we keep a diaper caddy (from target😉) next to the bassinet.

    •Bibs that have the water proof backing
    It will help save you from constantly changing baby back into dry clothes, plus cut back on laundry.
    •Burp rags are fine, however; receiving blankets are multi purpose & will do the same thing & they're usually in reach, get what you think would be enough receiving blankets.
    •Diapers - ask for ALL sizes, they grow fast & new born diapers only last so long before they're onto the next size.
    •Clothing sizes- keep in mind babies age if you buy clothes months ahead
    Example: buying cute little pj's with the footies attached, it says 6 months on it
    Is it summer or winter, etc?
    Match their month/age to the upcoming season that they'll finally wear it.
    (I probably could have explained that better)

    A few things I would highly recommend would be:
    The owlet (it monitors the baby's heart rate, etc) when they're sleeping for your peace of mind
    The hatch sound machine (its a night light/sound machine all in one)
    A diaper pal
    The graco duet connect (its a swing and bouncer combo, so its a huge space saver!

    I’m going to heavily recommend a co-sleeping crib. I butts up against the bed and eliminates the risk of rolling on to them. I didn’t have it for my oldest and did for my youngest. It was a game changer in those first 6 months when you’re up several times at night to feed. Also, the boppy is great for breastfeeding, so the dock-a-tot will fulfill a completely different need for you. The other thing I would recommend is a really good quality umbrella stroller. MacClaren was my favorite. They get used a lot more than you’d think and a crap umbrella stroller will make you want to se fire to the world. Good luck and ENJOY!!

      I use my ergobaby carrier way more than any stroller, especially if you get the infant insert too. But when we do use a stroller the most important part to us has been good quality wheels. They make it much smoother for the baby and for us. I can also nurse in the ergobaby on the go though and it's super convenient and not very noticeable. Also, ideally you try out a few carriers (in which the baby is held with legs in an m shape, not straight down from a narrow seat like baby bjorn) and see which is most comfy for you, not just the one, even though I love my ergo.
      But as for the cosleeper crib, omg I totally agree. 2nd baby in our cosleeper and it's a lifesaver.
      My toddler was supposed to stay in our room too lol but the baby's noise was giving him no rest so he finally transfered to his own room when she was born a month ago. It's been excellent, he comes over in the morning to snuggle but sleeps wonderfully at night in his own room with no fuss.
      And I love my boppy pillow for nursing but make sure it has a removable washable cover, because mine came without and it's a pain.
      I would also say from my experience, get some thrush oral gel. You don't want to have nipple thrush and not have it handy.
      And be prepared for some things just to end up not being useful. Babies have preferences for bottles, binkies, swaddles, any number of things. What you buy may end up not getting used.

    I would highly, highly, highly, highly, *deep breath* highly, highly recommend the Brest Friend nursing pillow over the boppy for anyone with bigger boobs. It supports your back and doesn't slip so you don't need to lean over and strain like some people do with the boppy nursing pillows. Saved me! So happy for you Kristi you are gonna be the best mama

    My “minimalist” list from stuff I had that I USED:
    -A Pack’n Play with some sort of ability to transform into a bassinet for tiny baby, then go down to the ground for bigger baby
    -A diaper caddy for the living room - mine is by JJCole but they’re p much all the same
    -Bottles with SLOWEST FLOW nipples - usually marked newborn or size 0 (often size 1 can be too fast until baby is bigger)
    -Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleep Suit for after swaddling days end but baby still startles themself awake - GAME CHANGER
    -A floor mat for “play” time
    -A Baby Box - free on BabyBoxUniversity.com, and comes with goodies!
    -Some sort of mixing bottle or pitcher, in the event of any sort of formula supplementation or switch so you can prepare for the day instead of mixing as you go (can also be used for storing pumped breast milk if you decide not to freeze it)
    Other thoughts:
    -Turn the cup of the Haaka ALL THE WAY INSIDE OUT for max suction
    -Where possible (and this is probably difficult with Covid), try on things like carriers and nursing pillows, bc having to buy multiple versions of the same thing once you realize it doesn’t fit your body right really sucks
    -I’m skeptical of “you only need like five onesies” claims, mostly bc my baby was a spitter and I was changing her clothes multiple times a day. Bibs help, but in my experience can only do so much. Stacks upon stacks of Second-hand and clearance aisle onesies are where it’s at. If you don’t end up using them to death, rehoming them once Baby outgrows them isn’t difficult.
    -TAKE A BREASTFEEDING CLASS bc that shit is HARD and it’ll break your heart and spirit if you aren’t prepared (I know you were a birth doula but I’d still recommend it bc THAT SHIT IS HARD especially when you’re already in the weeds of sleep deprivation and raging hormones)
    -Postpartum doulas are also rad, which I’m betting you already knew but since it’s my new gig I had to mention it for anyone who didn’t
    -Lactation teas/cookies/tinctures/supplements are a HUGE waste of money
    YOU GOT THIS, GIRL ❤️

    • @RandiiJeann
      @RandiiJeann 4 года назад +2

      Totally agree with all of your notes!!
      Also:
      -VELCRO SWADDLES. When you’re sleep-deprived, the last thing you want to do is wrap a baby in a tiny, annoying blanket. They saved my sanity.
      -BAMBOOBIES NIPPLE CREAM. Baby and I both liked that way more than lanolin.
      -TARGET UTILITY CARTS. These are perfect for all the areas that the baby will be changed in. You can load it up with basics, also great for breastfeeding accessories.
      Our little one was in our room until 6 months. The transition was hard (mostly for me) but we all sleep much better now. The Owlet sock helped my anxiety a lot so I didn’t have to check on the baby as much.
      You’re doing great, mama! You will realize what works for you and what doesn’t very quickly. (For example, our baby hated the Dockatot so I gave it to another mom. Plus, it’s not technically safe for sleeping so that’s a downside. Boppys are great because they can be nursing pillows, infant loungers AND help with tummy time and sitting up!)

    • @kristincook4354
      @kristincook4354 4 года назад

      Randi Sloan Yessss re: the Dockatot. I won’t tell anyone not to get one if they can afford the hefty price tag and want to try it, bc I’ve known plenty of people who swear they were a game changer for them - but in my experience, my Boppy served the exact function I would have used the Dockatot for at a fraction of the price. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Highly recommend a baby swing and pack n play that has a changing station/bassinet on it.
    It was so easy to change my son in a pack n play changing table compared to a dresser changing table because I could actually stand in front of the pack n play without hitting a wall on the other side of me like with our dresser changing table. Plus it's nice when you have multiple stories to have something on each level for changing. We also used it to store wipes and diapers, and of course it's easy to pack up and take to someone's house if you're going somewhere. Don't know how I would have survived without it.

    I'm so excited for you! Our daughter slept in our room until she was one, in a co-sleeping bassinet and then her crib. It was great. We didn't even worry about her bedroom until she was one. We use our living room as her playroom and it works well. We keep her books and toys in there and so we can read to her while we're relaxing. Her room is for clothing storage and sleep; I'm obsessed with sleep hygiene so we keep it a calm place. I think house set ups have to work for everyone in the family, so do what works for you and enjoy the decorating!
    I think you're going to do awesome, just do what you want and ask for help from those who offer. I keep learning new things each day (like the haakaa pump, I'll be getting one of those before the twins get here), and I just add useful things to my toolkit and ignore the useless things.

    The boppy infant lounger was my lifesaver! I had something similar to the dockatot but cheaper. I used the infant lounger more than anything in the first 2 to 3 months. I also recommend doing a wipeable changing pad on top of a dresser. Less laundry. The dresser is useful for after you are done using the changing station. My little guy is a year old and we only use his changing station for poopy diapers now.

Also, the baby Bjorn seat thing- they have two angled positions for newer babe and as they age. My kids had intense reflux and it helped so much instead of laying them down on their back if I needed both hands for a moment, or to take the rare, blessed, shower.

I can’t remember a time (other than pregnancy) I’ve had any dream and it not be one of those. The one I have the most (I’ll try and Keep it short!) is::
      -I am babysitting my brothers and sister-I’m a child, they were younger than me- and 2 guys in limos pick us up. They put me in one and the kids in the other and drive to a cliff. There were no cliffs ANYWHERE near where I grew up so this has always been odd to me. We get there and the limo with my siblings is pulled up to the edge and the guys get me out and say “tell us or they die!”. I scream “idk what you mean, tell me and I’ll tell you” some other random things happen and I wake up every time screaming “No!” Watching the limo with my siblings speed towards the edge....🧐🤨

    My recommendations:
    * Thermometer
    * If you are going to breastfeed and bottle feed use preemie nipples so they have to work for the milk like they do when they breastfeed.
    * non scented ,shampoo, lotion & detergent . My baby ended having bad rashes and really bad eczema and switching him to non scented products was a game changer. Also to be on the safe side.
    * containers to store your breast milk.
    Lactation supplements : Legendairy milk supplements are a game changer and don’t contain fenugreek. Fenugreek can actually decrease your milk supply rather than increase. Fenugreek can also make your baby really gassy.
    * have 2 breast pumps if you do exclusively pump or as a backup : I recommend the spectra it is the only breast pump that feels comfortable and has a good suction .

    The pads are good for getting wet then freezing. You’ll need it directly on your perineal area. Depends won’t do that for you.
    Sleep sacks! So much easier for diaper changes than fiddling with snaps in the middle of the night.
    Socks. Onesies. Blankets and spit up rags. Breast milk pads. Wipes or lots of rags for cleaning if you’re using cloth diapers and want to limit waste. Stock up on laundry soap and bath soap/lotion/oil for the baby. Diaper cream.
    You’ll go through a lot of all those items.
