Final did my 2016 R60 S , pinch bolts were no issue on mine ,thank goodness, but I did buy OEM pinch bolts and tossed the old ones. Very important, get that spreader, Amazon sells a kit with 3 different spreader sizes and types for $15 . You need the short fat one that looks like a bit. After I did all the work got it aligned. The guy had to break off the locator pin on the mount in order to move it over a bit . I used bmw mounts so it was to spec so I was very surprised.
My pinch bolts head snapped off while reinstalling the bolt on my R53. The bigger problem with that is that there is no nut. It has a threaded shaft integrated in the wheel carrier. That was a really nightmare. Had to drill and create slit in the bolt so I could use a screwdriver with a square shaft and a wrench to back the bolt out 1/4 turn at a time while applying heat .
Oh man that sounds like a real rough job, I've got a strut to do on my partner's R56 and after how much hassle mine caused (which sounds like it was easy compared to what you had to deal with) I'm not in too much of a hurry to attempt. It's one of those jobs you start and about a 3rd of the way in start thinking it's far less painful to pay someone else to suffer 🤣. Well done on the creative fix hard work but the adapt and overcome mindset certainly helps with jobs like this.
