I have a 2023 GS Adventure Trophy. I also think the bike rattles way more than any bike should. The quickshifter was terrible from day one. I only have 700 miles on it. Now 4-5 or 5-6 is tolerable: won't pull your hands off the handlebars by accident. Sometimes the quickshifter won't work at all. Hopefully it will improve over time.
I don’t think your allowed to own a GS if you tell the truth like that. Didn’t you know. There is nothing to see here. Best gearbox in the world. That leaping you into the next post code when you change gears is normal. Those rattles are just engine character. 😂 Have a good Easter mate

Its pretty clear this gearbox is not meant have a Quickshifter. Works 1st to second on every other bike. For what its worth the BMW guy told me I could change 1st to second after 5K RPM. It still sucked like that. Pretty stupid to have a quickshifter you have to clutch the first two gears.
Let's see if I have this right. You spend what $27,000 + for the BMW expecting a superior and bullet proof machine, but what you're actually paying for is not a superior machine that shifts like butter in all gears, and has a power plant that makes noises like it should have the words Allis-Chalmers stamped on the side of it. However you can say, "I have a BMW". BTW these things are not the most dependable machines in the world either. What can I say ? BMW, insert it where the sun doesn't shine. I guess you’re having trouble counting. I was in 2nd most the time. 1st when under 40 but why would I change higher than 2nd if it’s 4000rpm? Is it because it has weak midrange and top end power?

I've a 2021 R1250GS with the quick shift.... a couple of things (I think!). You're riding around at steady 50kph in 1st. I use 1st for moving away only, doubt I ever use it otherwise. I'd be at bottom of 3rd gear at 50kph. If I'm feeling lazy I could even stay in sixth as low as ~65kph. It's a "grunt" engine, not a "rev" engine. I've no idea which is right or wrong, just an observation. I only use the quick shifter under hard acceleration or deceleration, and never between 1 and 2. I think sometimes we confuse "quick shift" with "automatic" - but I've not ridden any other manufacturers versions so maybe my expectations were lower? Thanks for the vid. And you're wrong about me being old, fat and bald. That's my wife, not me.

This is a follow-up to my previous feedback from a year ago. There is now more than 3,000 miles on the bike. I can now, usually downshift all the way from sixth to first. I say usually because something I have to press the shifter several times to get it to downshift. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. When it does downshift it usually works fairly smoothly as long as I am decelerating and have zero throttle. Upshifting from any gear below fourth I wouldn't recommend. I occasionally will try from third, but the bike lurches. I think it's dangerous from first and second.
quick shifters are designed to be used at full revs for max acceleration, so you don't lose power during changes, not for riding in traffic at low revs.

I wonder why there’s not a previous study of the bike before a test! If you took some minutes to read the bike’s book you would understand that the quickshifter has a way to be properly used! Basically, up gears with accelerator on. Down shift is only with accelerator off or, in case of reduction for fast accelerating, accelerator full or almost full on. If you do this, the use Will be just fine. On mine works flawlessly!
Thanks for the explanation but who the hell read a owners manual before you ride a test bike. Anyway I own a 1250 GS now and I had a 1250 GSA. The quickshifter sucked on both of them from 1st to 2nd.
Quik shifter is more for higher revs in 2nd to 3rd and above, not for 1st to 2nd. I have the identical 23 ttrophy....brakes are phenomenal, overall bike is AWESOME in every aspect....
2022 GSA here. You can use 1 ==> 2 shifting but you NEED to be accelerating. E.g. try accelerating hard from 1-2 and change 4-5k rpm and you’ll be fine. What you CANT do is not accelerate and try and change
havent done anything on my bike, but some people got super smoth gearchange after calibrate cam angle senor or whats it called. i was hoping for smother changes after cam tensioner change, but ill defenately do the calibration on cam angel sensor.
To much torque for the quickshifter in 1-2-3 but 3-4-5-6 is perfecrt on mine, downshifts all the way to 1st with no problems. The GSA is exactly the same in traffic, no wider and being in WA the extra range is great. Muscle memory will stop you smacking your shins!
@@thefika I just think the amount of torque from a big twin doesn't lend itself to clutchless gearchanges. No big deal for me, I've managed with a clutch for the last 30+years.
I’ve a Ninja SX and the 1-2 shift using the quickshifter is clunky af too. 2-6 is buttery smooth. I would fully expect a lumpy boxer to be even more pronounced.
Why are using 1st gear for most of your journey, this bike has huge torque so try upping the gears there plenty of them. I am guessing this is a demo ride you got for a hour and then slated the bike riding it like a moped🤠
I agree with some of your comments about the quick shifter. The jolting surprises me at times when I am 2nd through 6th gear. I wish it were smoother. Overall, it’s a good bike.
My GS does the same thing shifting from 1st to 2nd, after that its butter smooth both up and down on the quick shifter. I had the same issue with my Ducati. That aside I feel like you’re being a tad dramatic between that and your shins hitting the cylinders, i’ve had 2 GS’s and don’t recall ever hitting my shins, not sure how your legs are so far in front of you rather than right below you when you stop
You need to rise the seat and a extra tall seat . yes the suspention is the best on the gs.s ! Just like a citroen . quick shifter is only for riding very fast only . man !!!
I have a 5 month old gsa rallye i can tell you i like the qs alot more than my previous xr qs to qs in low gears regulate your tbrottle only very occasionally i use clutch its an amazing bike
There is a gear ratio difference between the gears, a little common sense would go a long way in making the shifter work for you. Not backing off on the throttle is the same as power shifting. BMW NEVER said it was an automatic transmission. Mine works perfect in every way.
That guy is a pain to listen to. Hey buddy , if it's so hard shifting 1-2, maybe use the clutch ??? BMW doesn't recommend using the quick shift from one to 2nd gear.
YOU"RE WRONG! BMW Dont say that I was never at a constant speed at a high RPM! I shifted at a low RPM and still got ejected into another post code. Stop repeating incorrect information you got on the internet BMW Say "When riding at a steady speed in a low gear at high engine rpm, an attempt to shift gear without pulling the clutch can cause a severe load-change reaction. BMW Motorrad recommends disengaging the clutch for shifts in these circumstances. It is advisable to avoid using Gear Shift Assistant Pro at engine speeds close to the limits at which the governor cuts in to limit engine rpm."
they recommend 2nd onwards although this can be eased out with a flash. I had my last one ecu flash and made a massive difference. I have just recently got the same trophy apart from gold wheels . I will probably get this one flashed also as the quick shifter is absolutely shit . Mine due into bmw again for first service next week and software update this “apparently” might help.
You look about 7 foot tall on that GS, I'm 6 foot and I'm tip toe on my GSA and I have a lower Rallye seat, plus suspension set on low, you are flat foot with bent knee's how the heck can that be? lol
@@thefika My inseam's about the same as yours but I can't flat foot at all not even with the lower seat and suspension set on low. On another note I've heard several owners complain of banging their legs on the engine, I've have the GSA so it has engine crash bars as well, I've had it 6 months and have never once banged my legs. As for the quick shifter, I've been riding bikes for 50 years and this is the first bike I've owned with a quick shifter, even if everyone said it was brilliant I would still use the clutch, it doesn't take any effort to pull the lever, I guess I'm just old school. I would say there are some things I have found hard to get used to compared to other bikes I've owned over the years, one being not being able to flat foot, with the weight of the GSA it makes you feel very insecure in traffic and at junctions, always worrying about potholes or lose gravel catching me out, I also find it hard to get used to the anti dive on the front suspension, it just feels weird when every bike has that nose dive when you brake and this bike doesn't dip at all, this is the first bike I've had with a hydraulic clutch, it's either on or off, I'm used to cable clutch where you have plenty of slip to feather and control especially in slow manurers, as soon as you find the biting point that's it the clutch is fully out, not easy to get smooth pull aways every time. All being said it's the best bike I've owned really, however if I still had some of the 70's/80's classic bikes I owned back then, they would be my main rides.
@@thefika You should see if you can get a test ride from a local dealer, it would be interesting to get a comparison between the 2 bikes. These bikes really make sense in your country, I'd love to be able to explore some of your vast country on mine, it's too expensive to ship a bike out their though, it would work out costly to hire a bike on top of all the other travel costs.
next time try the quick shifter in other gears as well. Whole clip you changed only 1-2 ... OMG it`s only 1-2. Try other speeds as well it will not do the same in 3-4-5. It`s hars to say the quick shifter is bad when you did not pass 60km/h
If you like BMW motorcycles but the boxer engine for any reason doesn’t fit well with your personal taste of riding or concept of it it’s only fine. There are other engines available like the four in line or six in line engines of other models of the brand that you can choose, with different gear boxes too along with smoother and fast quick shifter devices that are in pair with the best offers in the Market. Although , the boxer engine is a proven well built apparatus and it has a vast popularity amongst technicians , mechanics, bikers and bike owners all over the world. Are we all wrong? Is it even the right question? There’s nothing wrong about the engine itself or all the people that like it’s character, but of course, it is not the best at everything and it will depend on what are we analyzing. I only can say that subjective impressions have to be accepted but they are important just for the ones who get that specific impressions. My personal opinion, for instance, is very different from the opinion of the author of this video, because I like the sound it makes, I like the way it works and I even like it’s limitations. Yes I’m a fan of the boxer engine. There are better sounding engines on the Market? Yes, I think that there are, maybe plenty. But for me, on a overall viewpoint I very much appreciate the boxer engine, agricultural or not, it pleases me. If I have other choices than BMW bikes it’s not because of the boxer engine that I consider a plus for a bike but other reasons. I love some parallel twins like the ones that Triumph uses. The Cp3 from Yamaha is a fine and well engineered propulsion unit , the LC8 from KTM is fantastic. There are excellent engines on the Market and maybe or certainly smoother and better sound appealing , but of course a bike has its purpose and the engine being a very important part of it, it is not the whole bike. I said my piece. Thank you for sharing and for the video ✌️✌️

Am I not allowed to have an opinion? Why are you so childish that if someone says something you don't agree with you have a cry? I have the manual. I read it. It does not say anywhere don't use the shift assist in 1st > 2nd > 3rd. Who should I be asking for advice? The Bozo's that say it say don't use the shift assist in the first few gears because it says it in the manual, when it doesn't? Or the fools who have not read the manual and just repeat that erroneous line. Because they read it online or heard it on youtube? Stop making excuses for poor engineering. wait you didn't get the dct africa twin, no? I have the 2023 trophy 719 , it shifts perfect.
HEHEHE
I have the identical 23 ttrophy....brakes are phenomenal, overall bike is AWESOME in every aspect....
woof. Agree
Thanks for the useful information.
Thanks for the tip. I feel this gearbox was never made for a quickshifter
Thanks for sharing,
Why are using 1st gear for most of your journey, this bike has huge torque so try upping the gears there plenty of them.
I am guessing this is a demo ride you got for a hour and then slated the bike riding it like a moped🤠
Who hurt you>? Ah man GS is the Best in the world. That 1st to 2nd quickshifter is just for arm stretching. Feel better now.
I agree with some of your comments about the quick shifter. The jolting surprises me at times when I am 2nd through 6th gear. I wish it were smoother. Overall, it’s a good bike.
Thanks for sharing!
Every engine and every gear box on any machine has a sweet spot it’s up to the operator and there ability to find it
I mean I have ridden many bikes with quick shifters that just work
twist and go Beemer??? I thought they had gears but obviously not
You must love carbon build up
No one is driving always in the 1st and 2nd gear😮
I guess you haven’t seen the F9 video and you love carbon build up
My GS does the same thing shifting from 1st to 2nd, after that its butter smooth both up and down on the quick shifter. I had the same issue with my Ducati. That aside I feel like you’re being a tad dramatic between that and your shins hitting the cylinders, i’ve had 2 GS’s and don’t recall ever hitting my shins, not sure how your legs are so far in front of you rather than right below you when you stop
Thanks for sharing. I guess i just have a different anatomy
BMW recommend you use the clutch from 1st to 2nd. Enjoyed the video thanks. 😃👍
Thanks. I think so. Its seems too low
GS'S are about torque ... literally every point you're in 1st .. you could be in 3rd and it would pull easily no trouble at all.
TRue that
I shift 1-2 with clutch then the rest with QS. 2017 GSA. But yes the gearbox is clunky at best.
Goood idea
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results!!!
Ah but there was a different result later. 🤐
You need to rise the seat and a extra tall seat . yes the suspention is the best on the gs.s ! Just like a citroen . quick shifter is only for riding very fast only . man !!!
Good call!
I have a 5 month old gsa rallye i can tell you i like the qs alot more than my previous xr qs to qs in low gears regulate your tbrottle only very occasionally i use clutch its an amazing bike
Thanks for sharing. I agree it is an awesome bike
How could you possibly capture this video so vividly beautiful?
HDR and a Good day
@@thefika I see, what’s your equipment?
@@1xplorer Just a go pro 10. I just expand the SD content to HDR HKG in Final Cut
@@thefika Nice tips, mate
Appreciate that
How tall are you????
6’3” this was on the low seat setting
you use the quick shifter wrong !!!
By me it works absolutely perfect
How do you use it?
There is a gear ratio difference between the gears, a little common sense would go a long way in making the shifter work for you. Not backing off on the throttle is the same as power shifting. BMW NEVER said it was an automatic transmission. Mine works perfect in every way.
Yerp
How tall are you 7 foot tall
6'4"
The recommended use by BMW of the quickshifter is beyond the 2nd gear only. You should have tried 2 > 3 > 4 >5 and so on.....
Thanks. Thats definitely the way to go.
That guy is a pain to listen to. Hey buddy , if it's so hard shifting 1-2, maybe use the clutch ??? BMW doesn't recommend using the quick shift from one to 2nd gear.
YOU"RE WRONG! BMW Dont say that
I was never at a constant speed at a high RPM!
I shifted at a low RPM and still got ejected into another post code.
Stop repeating incorrect information you got on the internet
BMW Say
"When riding at a steady
speed in a low gear at high
engine rpm, an attempt to
shift gear without pulling the
clutch can cause a severe
load-change reaction.
BMW Motorrad recommends
disengaging the clutch for
shifts in these circumstances.
It is advisable to avoid using
Gear Shift Assistant Pro at
engine speeds close to the
limits at which the governor
cuts in to limit engine rpm."
they recommend 2nd onwards although this can be eased out with a flash. I had my last one ecu flash and made a massive difference. I have just recently got the same trophy apart from gold wheels . I will probably get this one flashed also as the quick shifter is absolutely shit . Mine due into bmw again for first service next week and software update this “apparently” might help.
Thanks for that Tip. So an ECU Flash will make the Quickshifter worth it :).
1st and 2d are clunky.... use the clutch.
Yer really? Its like I said in the video. You can clutch in 1 to 2nd to get around it.
You look about 7 foot tall on that GS, I'm 6 foot and I'm tip toe on my GSA and I have a lower Rallye seat, plus suspension set on low, you are flat foot with bent knee's how the heck can that be? lol
I'm 193cm 6"4" but my legs are regular 31" - 32"
Thanks for sharing. Very helpful. The GS Adventure has more suspension travel and higher ground clearance. I wonder how I would go on that
@@thefika You should see if you can get a test ride from a local dealer, it would be interesting to get a comparison between the 2 bikes. These bikes really make sense in your country, I'd love to be able to explore some of your vast country on mine, it's too expensive to ship a bike out their though, it would work out costly to hire a bike on top of all the other travel costs.
Maybe you would benefit from raising the seat to stop bashing your shins?
thanks for the tip. I reckon thats the go
next time try the quick shifter in other gears as well. Whole clip you changed only 1-2 ... OMG it`s only 1-2. Try other speeds as well it will not do the same in 3-4-5. It`s hars to say the quick shifter is bad when you did not pass 60km/h
I dont think you watched the whole clip if your telling me to try the quickshifer in 3-4-5

I'm definitely not saying there is anything wrong with the boxer motor.
just use the clutch, they are like that.
Yep. Seems so
Nice review stuck in traffic
Tell me about it
Beautiful bike
I love it
I’ve never known anyone to be such a winger about a bike he shouldn’t have bought. Why bother when you don’t like the look or the sound and only complain as you didn’t read the manual or ask advice.
Who hurt you?
What is a winger? I was having a laugh about it.
Not crying like you.
I said many good things about this bike.
Why are you crying that I have some criticisms? Am I not allowed to have an opinion?
Why are you so childish that if someone says something you don't agree with you have a cry?
I have the manual. I read it.
It does not say anywhere don't use the shift assist in 1st > 2nd > 3rd.
Who should I be asking for advice?
The Bozo's that say it say don't use the shift assist in the first few gears because it says it in the manual, when it doesn't?
Or the fools who have not read the manual and just repeat that erroneous line. Because they read it online or heard it on youtube?
Stop making excuses for poor engineering.
Its a well known fact the quick shifter sucks on the GS.
Deal with it.
Every day you like most this toy.
woof
BMW sold you an idea, now you can't get out of it! Join the parking lot with the rest of them!
plenty of people buy it too.
for fucks sake man………… quick shift from 2-6. 1-2 is always rough. Same way on my Multi1260 Enduro.
Nope. There are plenty of quickshfters that are smooth all gears. Stop making excuses
This poor Bike…
woof
You obviously have never ridden a sports bike with a QS.... stop whinging ....and stop revving the beautiful boxer so hard in 1st.
Wrong. rode them all but nice fantasy
Clearly not got a clue, running a GS at that speed and revs in first gear in town. Bless.
Beyond blue can help you.
Its not a quick shift or gearbox problem, its you! You obviously haven't done your homework.
Nope. Everyone says it that is competent. It’s a known thing.
Pretending it’s ok like you is not helping
NOPE, they all do it from 1 to 2. 1 -2, and 1-3, use the clutch. When you get in the upper gears, it gets a lot better
Yer, seems the way
What a whinge fest. I thought you called us 'Whinging Poms!'?
Oh man watches youtube video and has to have a whinge. I guess your the expert on that.
I mean what incentive do BMW have to make the quickshifter better.

maybe learn to ride the bike properly. my 1250 trophy is a dream
Ah mate are you alright. Does the truth hurt you. Poor Old Man 👴
Shift out of fist mate!
i dont shift at 4000rpm lol
You have no idea, use the torque to change up and try using a higher gear it’s a BMW 😢
No Problem on The KTM 1290 shifting like this. Stop letting BMW get away with sub par Quickshifters
No mechanical sympathy what so ever !remind us where you borrowed that bike from please? 😮
Thats why you never buy a demo. Take care mate
@@thefika Eff off, mate. I bought my 2023 Demo Trophy with 6 miles on it. I had to put the other 195 miles on it to make 201 miles, to make BMW USA happy as a demo. Too stupid to realize you're wrecking the synchros with your incompetence. It's all on you, show some accountability for your indiscriminate actions.
1st gear is just for taking off from stantionary.. 1st to 2nd use the clutch if u r in the low rpms
Lol GS owners
@@thefika no, sorry... im not a GS owner .. im just somebody who hve clocked more than many yrs of riding... what im seeing is just rider's skills there
Yer right. While gear changes on a QS are best with positive momentum. The GS does this with momentum or not.
I do exactly the same thing on the 1290 Super Adventure, Tiger 1200 and Multistrada V4 and I don't get leaped into the next postcode when I do so.
This QS is Rubbish on the GS. Its pretty much well known as it turns out.
He is talking your riding skills. Wtf are you in 1st gear all the ducking time. Learn to ride, stop whining
Read the manual next time....
YEr. I will the manual before I test ride a bike.
My nephew has a k1600. It breaks a lot. Transmission, coils, handlebar switch gear etc etc etc. Oh yea and cost a kings ransom to buy then a kings ransom to keep it going. I know of two former BMW dealers.... Former. Hard to get repeat customers when the machine you sold them is an overpriced snob mobile that isn't the superior machine they expected.
Yer I hear things like that

You shoulda just read the manual mate - no more whingeing needed. 👍🏻
I don’t think you know what whinging means. I couldn’t care less if it has a dodgy quickshifter or not. I was laughing at it. BTW on what planet does someone read the manual before a test ride. 🤌
don't use quick shifter from 1st to 2nd. Ever!
What if I want to be ejected into another postcode?
@@thefika 🤣
The quick shifter is meant to be used from 4000 revs up. Worth learning about the bike before using it??
Not true. If you use first to second at any rev range its clunky
