- This is the Squier CV '50s Tele and it's pretty great. Except for Squier's quality control, which is far too often lacking. It's too bad because the Classic Vibe series are consistently well made guitars that play well and sound great but if you're not comfortable doing setups then you're gonna want to budget a little extra to get them setup.
I got this guitar on sale for $300 shipped. Subscribe to Riff City and I'll let you know about these deals: artofshred.com...

This is one of the most honest reviews of this guitar. I have got the same in white, 2020 (i.e Covid) Indonesian model bought online, and I had various quality issues, such as bridge misalignment surely a couple of high frets etc. I fixed it the best I could, but that doesn't deny the fact that Squier's quality control is seriously lacking, and these are not exactly cheap guitars. If I were to buy another, I would prefer checking it in a store, rather than buying online. Keep up the good work!👍
Thank you so much!
Yeah they're great guitars, it's too bad the Squier QC isn't better.
Classic Vibes are such amazing guitars. The demo was killer, dude!
Yeah man CVs are nice. Thank you again!
I think the gloss finished neck and fretboard are good because it seals the wood helping to shield it in dry climates like here in the desert. Also love how retro the guitar looks being modeled after a 50's Tele. It's not fancy or tricked out, just some metal and a hunk of wood combined to make a humble honest instrument.
I've never lived in a really dry climate so I can't say if it's better.
These guitars are definitely beauties!
Bought the identical model this week. Pristine from Amazon Warehouse for £220. A steal at that price. It sounded ace and It's now with my Tech guy getting set up. A few high frets fixed, then all dressed and the action lowered. Can't wait to get it back and with the new Pro setup it's still cost me under £320. A beautiful looking pro gigging guitar at a value for money that's really hare to beat.
Oh heck yeah! Too bad about the high frets, but happy you've got a guy you trust to take care of that. It's a great guitar 🤘
I have one, bought recently...love it. Period.
It's such a good guitar once it's set up! 🤘
I bought this just for my project guitar. I have put a roasted flame maple Warmoth neck, stainless steel frets, Suhr noiseless SSCII Pickups, Wilkinson bridge, Gotoh locking tuners, gold hardware etc. and now plays like a high end guitar lol. Plays better than my American Original 50s
Damn, that is quite a project! :) Thanks for sharing!
Once you get past the "Snob appeal" and the "Hay look at what I got folks" this Tele is a very good guitar. Ive been very satisfied with Squire.
I agree
I have the Squire 50’s CV Esquire. I feel it’s one of the nicest gits I’ve ever played. Liked and Subbed.
Thanks for subbing! I need to check out an Esquire, the guitar that started it all.
i love what squier has been doing with the classic vibes and paranormal, they are really good quality for the the price even compared to the mij squiers or even like a mexican fender.
Yup I tend to agree. If they got their quality control in check it would be really nice, though.
I just got a used CV mustang and I am Fucking blown away at what an amazing instrument that thing is . Tele is next on my list ! Your vid was great man. Killer and very original playing !
Thank you! CVs are so nice
Excellent review. I got one in Sonic Blue. Frets are a little high, but hey, I got it for a steal! Cheers.
Thank you! Yeah after a setup it's a sweet guitar
Great video as always. I never really played a Tele. I tried them a few times (barely) in stores like Guitar Center, but I don't have one. Not sure why, I somehow associate them with country music and perhaps I think it's not a versatile guitar. I'll appreciate your thoughts on that. Do you think a Tele in general (not necessarily the model you featured) is versatile enough? Why would I want a single and single where I can buy a strat with 3 pickups for example? I'll really appreciate your feedback on this. Thanks (again) for the video.
Thank you! Well, as you heard in the intro track the Tele can get heavy which a lot of people don't realize. But I am biased with them because I love country and I love twang. Anyway you're right it's definitely known for a more country or classic rock type sound but it can be versatile. What kind of music do you usually play?
I like Teles more than Strats, but as always most of this stuff is personal preference. No wrong answers while having fun making noise and/or music.
Also: I like this tele as is, but I did just order new pickups so I'll post a video about that in a few months.
@@ArtOfShredYT Thanks for taking the time to reply. I usually play Rock, which is why I thought perhaps I won't necessarily get as much out of a Tele as I do out of a Strat or a Les Paul. Yet.... it feels a bit ignorant of my part not to know Tele almost at all. Thanks for replying, I appreciate what you said, looking forward to the new pickup video.
@@shalomshalom735 Honestly, no shame in not caring about or knowing much about a certain type of guitar. As long as you're happy with what you're doing and what you've got that's really all that's important.
@@shalomshalom735 Remember, Jimmy Page used a Tele on Led Zeppelin One. Plenty of versatility in a Telecaster. One of it's strengths is it's versatility.
I just bought the exact guitar in a unopened box. For $250 tax and shipping included. Can’t wait to get it. I’m a big telecaster fan. Can’t get enough of them. Best guitar you can buy. For some of you that rock maybe you’ve heard of John 5 or Jim Root two of the heaviest guitar players out there. They play telecasters, so you can rock out with a telecaster. When I was much younger I thought teles were for country. Far from it. Telecasters are hard to knock out of tune compared to Les Pauls. Strat volume knobs get in my way.
Oh damn where'd you get it for $250?
John5 and Jim Root are great.
On Reverb from ProAudioStar. They are out of Brooklyn NY. They said it was a customer return within the last 30 days. Hopefully there’s nothing wrong with it.
@@Kempojujutsu oh gotcha yeah I got this one from proaudiostar as well. Hope your open box is all good!
Update guitar came and it’s great no major issues. Looks brand new. It sounds good. Compared to my Squier Affinity tele it’s more treble sounding. Like a telecaster should. I’m not used to that. Glad I bought it now.
@@Kempojujutsu hell yeah, that's great!
I love it way better than the 60' its going to cost me 429. In GC
Cool video bro I'm gonna subscribe we'll get you to a grand bro. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much! Appreciate your support
@@ArtOfShredYT absolutely man keep it up I think you'll do great. I'm so late to the game but can't wait to share my love of the guitar with the world too. I recently got my first bass it's a squier vintage modified p bass I love it squier is awesome. I wouldn't buy a custom shop if I could I'd rather a couple squier guitars lol can't wait to get a classic vibe strat they're sweet
Nice! Vintage Modified was a fun series. The CV Strats are good as well
Got two lefty Indonesian....not perfect...but with some minor tweaks, better pups (Fralin and Lollars) even through bridge is quite decent stock.....enjoyed working/learning on them....I bonded with them....prefer them over my stock USA/Japanese brethren. Got my adult son one for grins....baritone.
Nice! 🤘
I also own CV50 tele but in white blonde, great review. You look like Billy Howerdel
Happy you liked the review. I may look like Billy Howerdel but I only have 1/500th of the talent. What do I do now?
@@ArtOfShredYT Well, dunno, get a drink and play some APC songs :P
Have only ever owned one cv strat, but your right about the set up and qc , within minutes of playing my finger tips were so black from the dirt on the strings , the action was way to high , and one tuner didn't work properly . But like you said these can be fixed . But .... as good as they are and can be , I think I'd pay the extra and get a fender player .
I hear you. Fender Players are twice as much (or more, depending) and out of reach for a lot of people but they're nice 🙂
$300 with tax and shipping? Its crazy! a little bit irony this guitar build on my country and in my country cost $470
Usually they're more expensive here too 🤘
Your videos have helped a lot. I would like to know your preference between the Sire Larry Carlton T7 and the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Custom Telecaster, knowing that Squier could take an upgrade in pickups (with the difference in price)?
Thank you! I've not played a Custom so can't answer that. I did buy a T7 but returned it because it had an issue I couldn't fix. It was really nice otherwise, though! Here's the first impressions video ruclips.net/video/jqeF2sLMCLc/видео.html
@@ArtOfShredYT Thanks for the answer. But comparing the Sire T7 with the Squier Classic Vibe '50s, in your opinion which one would you choose?
I already saw your video about the Sire T7, it seemed like an excellent guitar and for the price only the Squier Classic Vibe or even the Fender Payer MIM can rival it.
Good question. The CV 50s Tele is half the price when it's on sale so I would probably choose that since I like the guitar so much.
What a fantastic video
Oh damn thank you Amin!
How are the frets? How is the playability?
All answered in the video
They we rough
Hello. Is it a one piece neck ? Or fretboard glued On neck !? Thanks
Hey, thanks for asking!
edit: woops I didn't look at what video you were commenting on. thought it was the most recent. Yeah, these CV 50s telecasters have a one piece neck with no separate fretboard
Are Harley benton guitars QC is better? Ya think ?
I'm not sure. I haven't reviewed one yet
I live in Thailand, Can I buy a Classic vibe 50s for 300$? How much is the shipping cost?
Sorry, I don't know
Hi,do you think its too heavy?
It's fine for me but some people find them heavy
I bought one about a year ago online after reading all the reviews, but was extremely disappointed. It was actually unplayable out of the box. The action was way too high and had too much relief in the neck with a lot of fret buzz. Mine was made in Indonesia and not only was it way too heavy, but the butterscotch color was all wrong.
I straightened the neck, leveled and dressed the frets, replaced and cut a new nut and fitted some brass saddles. After that, It played a lot better, but it still wasn't a great guitar. I kept it for about 6 months, but I rarely picked it up, so I ended up selling it. Maybe I just got a dud, but even so, I wouldn't recommend buying this guitar.
Oh damn, that's too bad. Lots of QC issues with Squier but the Classic Vibes I've put my hands on have all been really nice guitars after a setup. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I got a mustang and I had to go through 2 of them because of bad QC. Once I got the 3rd it was freaking epic and worth sticking it out till I got a good onem. It sounds like u got a dud, I have a friend that has this tele and man it plays and sounds as good as any tele I've played . I'm hunting for a used one. Rock on !
So a Harley Benton could be better and cheaper? TE52.
Maybe. Haven't reviewed one yet.
The only advantage a Squier could have is lower weight than the Te 52, but at 9 pounds, this one is as heavy as my Te 52... The Te 52 is, otherwise , a great guitar..
Thanks for playing different styles of rock/alternate! Every othrt review play it like a country/blues guitar and it's irritating as I want to use it for alternative style.
I hear you. I love Teles for alternative/heavy styles. So many great shoe-gazey type bands use Teles. A few recent favorites: Holy Fawn & Circle Trees
Squiers, including the classic vibes, can have numerous issues. I've had several over the years, and they often have twisted necks, high frets, badly cut nuts, mis-drilled holes. Check your guitar very carefully when you get it.
Yeah it's too bad their quality control isn't great because the CV series is so nice
"This is a nice telecaster but it wasn't perfect" drowns the single coils in distortion
Oh you're one of those people.
@@ArtOfShredYTHahaha perfect response.
