I know this is a late comment, but I was checking top dumpling restaurants in downtown Toronto. My fave place would be mother’s dumplings :) especially their boiled dumplings, and savoury pancakes. Really yummy 😁 But it gets super crowded easily, so I’d recommend have an early lunch there to avoid the crowd

Dumpling House looked incredible with the pan fried dumplings. But imagine, they pan fried the bottom of the soup dumplings so get the bottom nice and crispy. That would be the best of both worlds

Dumpling House is ancient, it's always been there for as long as I remember and my 2nd home (my maternal grandparent's house) was in Chinatown. As for Xiao Long Bao, I like Ding Tai Fung and Shanghai Dim Sum in PMall but you have to go to Scarborough and Markham for either.
Update, Juicy raised their prices far above $2.99, but justified with today's struggle by Chinese food spots to stay afloat. Mother Dumplings is no longer handmade,. Dumpling House is my favourite with moderate price increase, quality is still high.
