Here here! Love that aliens wouldn't have an interest. Such a funny perspective. Even though they've been visiting for millions of years and have been responsible for the growth of this planet. Watching us constantly. But a great outlook 😂
Citizen Beeswax I see your point and you’re right as a singular being one person doesn’t have the power to change the greater scale of things but every tree started as a seed and where one set of eyes travel so will another set and eventually there will be enough eyes on the smaller picture that will in turn alter the bigger picture.

One thing I’ve learned to consider when speaking of other life forms is whatever they are they most likely exist under different conditions than us. Who knows If they have bodies, speak language, have culture, need food and water to survive, etc. Atmospheric conditions are different across the universe so if they do thrive they exist under different environments than us. Also if we were ever to meet how would we communicate?
You're on the right path there.. The communicate isn't as much of an issue because we don't need to for meeting. But exactly.. To think we can even see them is another.. We and our ecosystems life develops different types of sight in the same environment.. Cats can,see urine glowing, scorpions GLOW to them.. We can't imagine the extent of what we can't see.. Radiation for one
No, we would not communicate with it...we would blast it and kill it. Humans don't even communicate with humans. Look at all the wars over our lifetime. We are the hostile species. Wr will eliminate ourselves with our own technology.
Ah yeah, the good ol' days, when people talked AND listened. It's much more efficient now, where people talk AT you and then just hit you with a bike lock.
I think it was so good because the guy wasn’t talking out of his ass. Or unsure about the topic he was elaborating on, instead they expanded each others views on that matter somewhat
John W preach brother.... it’s very disheartening where the art of conversation is going. I went from dating young to dating old purely based on that, not by choice either.
Well it was quite informative, I hadn’t thought of the point that aliens would “zoom in with there telescope” and see an earth from thousands of years ago due to the speed of travel.
A few possibilities here; 1. They have visited us in the past, observed, collected data/samples and left ( Prime Directive prevents them from interfering ) 2. They are so far away that even at FTL they may take too long to reach us 3. Their definition of Sentient life is completely different from ours hence we are being ignored. 4. They are waiting for us to reach a certain level on the Kardashev scale before they initiate contact 5. There are no wormholes nearby us, making it impossible for them to reach us ( assuming they can traverse them ) 6. They have been trying to communicate with us, we are not able to understand their signal. Feel free to add to this list with your thoughts, however crazy they may seem.
7. Given the amount of energy involved, they could only spend circa 24 hours to try and communicate during their semi-doomed 1977 Wow! Signal attempt. Hence why all subsequent attempts of ours failed to hear them again. Not too crazy. Especially if you believe that civilizations tend to kill themselves off before getting 'too' advanced. So they really can't harness insane amounts of energy like the Dyson Sphere would allow for. The strongest argument I can think of against my own theory is that they'd surely be smart enough to space out their attempts to communicate with us, anticipating we couldn't always be listening. However, the energy required is extensive. And no source is truly unlimited. They're all finite. Even wind and solar. Furthermore 1977 Wow! Signal didn't contain modulation which I'm lead to believe means it contained no attempts to convey information (that we can understand, anyway).
There is another factor that is often overlooked. Bedsides the distance to be traversed and the evolution of the aliens, along with ours, there is the issue of species lifespan. How long does an intelligent species last vs. less intelligent species? I hypothesize that dinosaurs, etc, lived here for millions of years because they relied on instinct and were not as vulnerable to extinction as humans are. There is already evidence that humans were on the brink of extinction several times, so the question is, how long will we survive? I believe that - 1) it is exceedingly rare to find life on planets, multiplied by millions to find intelligent life 2) That intelligent life has more species span issues that more base forms of life 3) It takes way too long to become galaxy travelers (if at all) 4) We are limited by physics in the distance/time it takes to travel 5) Most, if not all intelligent life is extinct before they can travel that far 6) To find that level of intelligent life, near us in proximity as also in developing during the same million years or so that we existed, is beyond a reasonable chance.
1. Aliens are so far away that neither civilization has detected the other's transmissions. 2. Alien transmissions are of a kind that we cannot detect or haven't discovered. 3. Aliens sent transmissions, but no human life or technology existed to receive it and now those aliens have gone extinct.
Complex and intelligent life is extremely rare to be created naturally and to persist that it makes us the only intelligent life in the Milky Way galaxy
@@kfireven Since we have not encountered any advanced life-form till date, we obviously believe that Humans are the most advanced/complex form of life. Maybe, there are far more complex and advanced forms of life in the Galaxy which for a number of reasons do not / would not want to interact with us. I refuse to believe that we are the only form of Sentient life in the Galaxy. Statistically, that possibility is almost null.

The argument is more like: we don’t seek to investigate and interact with every ant hill in the entire Amazon rainforest. we know many exist, but we don’t feel the need to seek them all out. Planet earth might be as common as an ant hill in the rainforest to more Advanced beings
Also, we assume that humans are the measure for everything, and it becomes easy to believe that what we do as a species is impressive and highly advanced, even though we are still very flawed. Meanwhile, these other species might have grown past religion, politics, and other things which we think are fundamental, but to them it can be considered "primitive". Therefore, they might know it is too soon and possibly not worth to communicate with us.
@@ManikandtanCK Exactly, if we had contact from anything extraterrestrial we would be learning and observing more than what they would be. Every alien from every movie or book has an element of humanity along with it in its physical form. We can’t even begin to imagine what they can look like.
There's a possibility, that aliens have already visited us, and they can even be still observing us. It's just humans' sensory detection and consciousness are too primitive to even notice their existence. They could exist in higher dimensions and observe from higher forms of consciousness, or they could just come in the form of birds. Just like observing some ants through a hidden camera lens, they won't even know there are humans behind it.
Daniel Zeuli lol go home your drunk. I’ve had this conversation n then some while stoned. Screw hallucinations, this is actually open minded dialogue occurring not just seeing stuff that isn’t there lol total difference
There’s two issues involved here. One is the advanced civilization going out of their way to interact with us, and two, us detecting their existence/activity regardless of whether they’re interested in us. If they’re not interested, which is debatable, why haven’t we detected their existence? This remains unanswered.
@@alexh1524 Think about the factors of why that is. 1 = speed of light (When we see very distant habitable planets we determine if they have a decent chance for intelligent and complex life forms, we see them as they were hundreds of thousands often millions of years ago). because light has a speed 2 = Our Current Technology in 2022 Its like what, 63 years ago since we landed on the hecking moon. it is all a axcellerating process where we get more and more advanced with a rapid growth, look at any chart about human development. like everything is skyrocketing. Id bet my halfgrown mustache on that in minimum 30 (It may be alot less) years we have actually Discovered Legit evidence of life on another planet. with the use of either the James webb telescope or some entirely new model directed towards scanning planets 3 = an Analogy to illustrate my point If you say you doubt there is other lifeforms on other planets in space. it will be like if you go to the sea with a tea spoon, to scoop it up with water, then determingly claiming you have proven whales dont exist "Because then if they do, why have i not found any in my spoon"
I ask, not because I’m convinced one way or the other, but because it appears to be a legitimate question. I understand that civilizations that started at around our time would not be detectable because of the vast distances. I ask about civilizations that could have sprung up millions or billions of years before us.
@@alexh1524 Yee i understand. but the thing is, we havent seen them because they dont show up yet, for us they dont exist yet. Advanced lifeforms like us are probably very rare in space, so it has to be a huge distance between us. therefore we cant see them because the light takes so long to travel. with James weeb they zoom millions of light years, to investigate the forming of early galaxies Even if some civilizations are far far beyond us on a technological scale. Light speed travel is kind of impossible, because it destroys our biological cells, and probably disrupts other mechanics
And the fact that we're not dead yet means that for those civiliztions to survive to that advanced point, they must have mastered a strong moral code. Or at least have a very good utilitarian reason not to destoy us.
TheTTguy no be doesn’t. He holds on to the belief that we are important to aliens... because he himself can’t conceptualise how far advanced the other guy is describing. If we are talking about a GALACTIC race to think they would be interested in a mere planetary race surely is illogical. To get to being a galactic race they’re lightyears ahead of us in terms of technology and evolution. What could they learn from a planetary species that they have probably seen/ experienced or tested an infinite number of times over? Typical ego of human beings thinking we are more than what we are... basically bacteria.
Quality Work technological advancement grows at an exponential rate at a factor of roughy 10 so your calculations is off dramatically. It won’t take that long to become a galactic race. Secondly, technological advancement might go in different direction in terms of expansion, there are theories that suggest that technologically superior species might go nano as it is way more efficient.thirdly, to base your idea of what an extremely advanced civilisation might be curious about is stupid non the less as it’s all theory. Lastly(in my opinion), if I was apart of a galactic civilisation I would want to know who the fuck lives in my crib and detail everything in between because I can.

Please tell me you guys know it takes electricity or some kind of energy source to stay warm in space and that power sources are not gonna last a whole trip if solar panels get less power as you leave a star. Aliens must follow the same rules of physics as us.
That's as false as it gets, evolution is driven by science, which it self is fueled by curiosity.....so every intelligent lifeform out there possess this characteristic!
I agree with Brian Greene. Some aliens can probably crazy technology, or ability to transform matter. Our civilisation on Kardashev scale might be extremely common on a galactic or universal scale. Type 2 civilisations and beyond might be incredibly rare.
Agreed, plus, as Brian says, they will be far away and thus observe earth at a much earlier time and in terms of evolution even a few thousand/million years is an incredible difference.
But why would you assume that, based on how exponential our technology has increased, we are well on our way to becoming one of these civilizations. So id imagine there are plenty out there, I think it more has to do with how big the universe is, I don’t think we can even comprehend it
That's not probable, stop living in fairy land. We have no idea about the probability of life itself, let alone intelligent life which is eons harder to obtain
Cause it doesn't seem like a legitimate argument. Humans are capable of reasoning and critical thinking unlike any other animal there is. We're able to create and evolve and have a level of awareness that aliens would and should find fascinating enough to study. However, I already believe alien life is monitoring us. I am more than confident that alien life has already visited earth and monitors from a distances. Some theories suggest that we were even placed on this planet by aliens as an experiment to see how we'd evolve and adapt and create societies.
@@josephBo I agree honestly. Reminds me of Prometheus. But that always made sense to me. @@savannahjohnson633 People are just very dismissive of the word "alien" if you bring it up in discussion. There is almost an undeniable amount of proof that shows that aliens have at one point or another visited our planet. I firmly believe they still monitor us and visit us quite frequently
Why “should” they be interested in us? We aren’t entitled to that simply because we are the smartest species on this planet. Monkeys reason and interact exactly as we do, just nowhere near the scale or the intelligence that we have. I think it’s really important to remember that aliens, who I believe are probably monitoring us too, are probably interested in us in the same way that we are interested in monkeys. And, the best thing for us, from their perspective is to leave us alone and let us grow and figure our shit out before they give us any sort of introduction at all. but also, consider the fact that any alien that is able to monitor us without us knowing, visit us without us knowing, or even get to this planet, has a level of technology so far beyond hours, that we cannot even conceive of its origins.
Franklin A Rogers same here. I had to rewind several times in many places in the convo to try to understand what he was saying. Super intriguing though
@@Samuel-th6fw I think Brian's argument was more that they might have had those interests at an earlier development but have long since transcended those types of interests when they became 'galactic'.

I mean interestingly, even if Aliens did show up on Earth, they probably wouldn’t even be able to hear us because their ears (if they have them) didn’t form under the parameters of our atmosphere
The train of thought at the beginning seems to suggest that at least Joe thinks they might be future humans. The famous Grays are the logical result of our current trend of shrinking in size and strength while increasing our brain size, and perhaps their skin color is an effect of different lighting conditions.
Why would they even want to see us? What if these things are older than we can comprehend? Maybe we're just another graduating middleschool class to them
I stopped at "Aliens aren’t human" said who ? if there is a planet like earth (high % that there is more than just one) where life on it started thousands of years before ours and we all know same conditions MOST OF THE TIMES give same results so yes maybe not the humans we know now (btw, if a black person in middle of Africa who only saw black people all his life and you show an Asian to him, he will think that he's not like him an he's not human ) so this "human" thingy is debatable, what if planet earth humans in thousands of years will look different too ? we already look different from our ancestors don't we ?
But we can detect stuff that we can't percieve, like ultra violet and super high pitch, so if an civilization which is millions years ahead of us exists, they might understand our perceptions in how see and percieve everything around us.
Yes you are correct about why no contact. Alien civilizations may think of as Ants in intelligence or too hostile, they may be too far away to even know we are here and visa versa, or there is no other intelligent life in our Universe, we are unique. As the movie "Contact" says at the end of the movie "If there is no other intelligent life in our Universe, then it sure is a awful waste of Space".
Nah, Joe has heard that from every physicist he’s ever talked to...some say its got a foundation, others have said it’s just being fashionable to be so cynical about Earthlings
Ikr, it's not that difficult to grasp that first of all, if a civilization is advanced enough to visit us, it's most likely that their knowledge about evolutionary science is way beyond us and possibly to the point that studying us might just be redundant for them
What if there’s another planet out there like us who are more technologically advanced than us and they do the same. We just wouldn’t be that interesting anymore. So they would go check them out. Maybe when the aliens first discovered us it was interesting for a while but then when we stopped making crazy technology and started to not advance our technology like we use to. Than they got bored and moved on. I mean c’mon man the last thing that probably impressed them was the freaking moon landing. Which was back in 1969 of July. What else is there besides military drones or iPhones? The rail gun? Which is probably a primitive weapon compared to theirs.
DESIREMORE I wonder if he is attempting to simplify his true thoughts. When experts talk to other experts they can assume that the other already knows quite a bit in the field but when talking to someone such as joe he likely needs to change his approach to explaining things
When you are an expert in a complex field like physics you have to be careful about how much you say and how you say it. It is really easy to lose your audience with concepts that are simple to you but make very little sense to the average person. Brian was being really polite, but could have blown up Joe's arguments if he wanted to.
ifitscool Yup. Joe is thinking 2020 human and not 700000000 life. “Well we’re interested with butterflies... why wouldn’t they be interested in us?” Well because the differences between us and a butterfly is much more fascinating than humans on earth in 2020 and aliens that are billions of years into modernization.
@@ITRIEDEL Doesn't explain anything either. If life and advancement of technology is common we're talking anything from hundreds to millions of different alien species from different worlds, with different cultures, values and interests. Each civilization with populations most likely well in the hundreds of trillions and more. And none of these civilizations, not even just a group among these trillions upon trillions of individuals has found us interesting? I can only make it plausible in a very specific and unlikely scenario where one civilization conquered everyone else and this specfic society isn't interested in other species and they're only waiting to destroy or conquer us because it's not necessary or ideal yet. But that's an extremely unlike scenario and the society would have to be so old we'd still be stuck with the question of why we're not seeing their ancient expansion when looking at the stars. Or maybe life and advancement of technology is *not* common. But wouldn't that make us interesting in itself? And can we even imagine intelligent life developing technology without at least some form of curiosity?
Vlad - animals don’t find humans interesting. They see us as just threats or instrumental to their survival. thinking the way a human thinks and thinking with a prefrontal cortex assumes these possibilities. It’s easy to assume we’re interesting because we’re all we know. Aliens could have a completely different thought process - beyond all understanding especially if they are advanced beyond our comprehension. They don’t have similar traits. Technology and advancement may be the forefront of their existence. If there were an alien life form with an economy and structure similar to ours would likely find us interesting because based on these variables they are similar, but the chances an alien life form similar to us that happens to “discover” us is extremely rare considering all the possibilities from no aliens to aliens that have discovered time jumps or something similar,
I tend to agree that any advanced society would be sufficiently “interested” in life forms on other planets. In fact, the more advanced they are, the less there is to discover and learn on their home world and they’ve looked outward to other stars and planets as we’ve done. Though it’s highly likely they’re not interested enough to take massively long and strenuous journeys to visit us.
Great point, but it is entirely possible that some sort of wormhole or natural galactic port that can allow inter dimensional travel within their area, crazy theory, just a thought though.
Tyler Jacobson assuming the life is close by galactic standards still the amount of energy necessary to make and interstellar trip is so enormous so technically what green is describing there’s no incentive to spend trillions of dollars to see an ant colony destroying itself
Our cosmic neighbourhood in the galaxy could be in the radius of 3000 light years and just with current technology to make the trip to alpha century 4.5 light years away it would take us 75 ....... THOUSAND YEARS

The problem is that everyone puts the process of aliens visiting us in a box. Everyone thinks it’s gotta be like the movies, with a big spaceship coming to earth. If a super advanced life form out in the universe can figure out inter dimensional space travel, they can figure out how to observe us without us ever evening knowing. They could be watching us in a fourth or fifth dimension, in some way we can’t even comprehend.
Good thoughts, it’s like how people interpret angels and demons as actually being aliens because they’re present but on a different plane on existence. But how does that’ shit work?
Think about this.. If humans didn't have noses, then we would have no idea that scent/smell is a thing. Similarly, if we didn't have ears, would we know sound/noise exists? So imagine what other senses there are that we can't experience because the human body just doesn't have the tools for it.
One thing often overlooked when discussing possible advanced civilizations is the possibility or even probability that technology itself is a threat to survival. The more ability we have to control our environment creates a greater ability to destroy it. Why would anyone assume it is different in another part of the universe? I think that is an obstacle for every civilization that ever existed.
I think the notion of "intelligence always equals technology" itself might not necessarily be correct. I think intelligence needs other factors for technology to advance, say... population density/overpopulation for example. The American Indians were in balance with their environment. Their technology didn't advance much at all over 10,000 yrs compared to Europe and Asia. Dolphins are highly intelligent. Where are the dolphin cities? Why don't they use tools? They have no need for them.
Commander Cooks I think this physicist is wrong about this alien theory; I mean scientists are more interested in things than the average person is, and scientists will try to make others interested. There could be a whole civilization on a planet that we look at and see nothing at all just like if they looked at our plant from that distance right now they wouldn’t see us, they’d see the dinosaurs
As silly as Rogan’s questions sound, they’re precisely what leads to a better understanding of things. Kudos to Brian Green for explaining it in a way that even a child could understand. These concepts are not easy to explain.
@d b Did you not read the second sentence? None of that was either analogy or opinion. You have to prove that other "tribes" exist in the first place for us to be considered the undiscovered one.
@d b last I checked "we are" doesn't equal "we might" just like the "we are the undiscovered tribe of the universe". Nothing about that comment was either speculation or opinion. And who gave you the authority to twist the meaning of what he said to not mean their face value?
@d b there is nothing in the comment that implies any form of speculation. Point it out, and we'll go from there. But you won't, because it isn't there now is it.

MrSpliffstarz no I’m not. Joe keeps bringing up this point about “why are you assuming they are years ahead of us”. You have to, because if they weren’t then how could they even get to us? If they don’t have more advanced technology then us, then the reason they aren’t visiting us is because they don’t know we exist and even if they did they couldn’t get to us.
MrSpliffstarz maybe they are developing at a faster rate than us, but for us they are still Thousands of years ahead. Might not be a thousand years for them but for us it prob is
Brian Urias your right I don’t know what they would be into. But you missed the point... the point was joe couldn’t give up the fact that because he finds us interesting that they had to find us interesting also
What joe is failing to understand is that we’re fascinated by these things because that’s all we know of alright now. An advanced civilization might have 10000 inhabited planets millions of miles closer than us, there could be a solar system in their “back yard” that has life evolving at different stages on every planet even past where we are now. So Why would they make such a huge trek to visit a solar system that only has life evolving on one planet?
That’s interesting. And there could also be a possibility that we already fall under one of those planets which they know of and maybe are already using not Ina sense of control but just making sure we are evolving and they wouldn’t interfere by coming here because it would create confusion in the masses as we already have a pre conceived notion of what an alien might be. Maybe there is like a council of higher beings that have been looking after us in ways we don’t know and kept it that way for a purpose.
I think space is just too huge. Even traveling at the speed of light it'd still take years to reach the nearest star/solar system. And I highly doubt we are ever going to invent some crazy sci-fi Faster Than Light travel with worm holes or bending space/time to ever explore the galaxy in any substantial way. I think that applies to alien life too. Sure, "it's possible" when you let your imagination run wild about how advance an alien civilization can get. Advanced Intelligent life would seem to be an even bigger fluke than life itself.
Wilbur Jenkins yes, physically travelling from our stand view is challenging and takes a lot of time. You gotta understand that we think of ourselves and aliens from our perspective. But what if the aliens are so advanced that they can appear anywhere in thought forms and don’t really physically need to get there. What if the technology don’t really matters that they’re so advanced in every level that their mind can create whatever they want and they don’t really need us or our help instead try to help us And maybe they have visited us in the past and have been given a name “god” for their supernatural abilities.
@@spiritualspace5674 Like I said, Sure, "it's possible" when you let your imagination run wild about how advanced an alien civilization can get. It's basically like youre saying "What if aliens are Goku from Dragon Ball Z" lol
I don't even think we could imagine what they would or would not care about. Like a fish doesn't understand what a human is, we wouldn't understand a civilization that is millions of years ahead of us.
Or to achieve such a level of tech that they would need to have achieved such a level of cooperation as a species that between both they could solve any problem they have such as energy, planet destroying astroids, resources...and therefore do not have a need to expand into the universe.
They have already come, ancient Egyptian art shows this. The pyramids are basically power stations and how do you think we got that technology? Look into it.
They completely forgot to talk about the fact, that other civilizations in space might be very dangerous. So except from some predatory species there might only two other kinds of civilizations out there: those still unable to reach into the sky and the dead ones.

One thing I’ve learned to consider when speaking of other life forms is whatever they are they most likely exist under different conditions than us. Well it was quite informative, I hadn’t thought of the point that aliens would “zoom in with there telescope” and see an earth from thousands of years ago due to the speed of travel.
A few possibilities here;
1. They have visited us in the past, observed, collected data/samples and left ( Prime Directive prevents them from interfering )
2. They are so far away that even at FTL they may take too long to reach us
3. Their definition of Sentient life is completely different from ours hence we are being ignored.
4. They are waiting for us to reach a certain level on the Kardashev scale before they initiate contact
5. There are no wormholes nearby us, making it impossible for them to reach us ( assuming they can traverse them )

1 = speed of light

2 = Our Current Technology in 2022

Advanced lifeforms like us are probably very rare in space, so it has to be a huge distance between us. therefore we cant see them because the light takes so long to travel.
with James weeb they zoom millions of light years, to investigate the forming of early galaxies
Even if some civilizations are far far beyond us on a technological scale.

Cause it doesn't seem like a legitimate argument. Humans are capable of reasoning and critical thinking unlike any other animal there is.

You couldn’t have said that better
One of them just needed to say, “Aliens aren’t human so their thoughts, actions, and emotions are acted on differently than ours”

Vlad this comment is top-notch 👏🏼👏🏼
Joe: “why would we assume they are that much more advanced than us”
Joe... if they can get here from other star systems, they are well beyond us
The question is why haven't they visited us, that doesn't imply that they can.
Great point, but it is entirely possible that some sort of wormhole or natural galactic port that can allow inter dimensional travel within their area, crazy theory, just a thought though.
When we visit ants, do they know we are there....or do they just feel our vibration.

Spot on!! there's a good chance our civilization would cease to exist in let's say1000 years for numerous reasons ,
I think the notion of "intelligence always equals technology" itself might not necessarily be correct.

Brian Greene is one of the best Scientists
What joe is failing to understand is that we’re fascinated by these things because that’s all we know of alright now. An advanced civilization might have 10000 inhabited planets millions of miles closer than us, there could be a solar system in their “back yard” that has life evolving at different stages on every planet even past where we are now. So Why would they make such a huge trek to visit a solar system that only has life evolving on one planet?
exactly, it's not resource exhaustive for us to observe ants like it is to travel galaxies apart.
Like a fish doesn't understand what a human is, we wouldn't understand a civilization that is millions of years ahead of us.
dansken610 especially when you consider a fish in terms of evolution has been here as long as us. They may have existed long before.
Or to achieve such a level of tech that they would need to have achieved such a level of cooperation as a species that between both they could solve any problem they have such as energy, planet destroying astroids, resources...and therefore do not have a need to expand into the universe.
A lot of people can’t even grasp the concept you just said so..
Exactly. Imagine you see their civilization--and you know IT IS a civilization--but you just can't comprehend it.
@@epicspaceship2161 Yeah like some 13 dimensions shit
They might have already observed us and went: “meh”
They have already come, ancient Egyptian art shows this. The pyramids are basically power stations and how do you think we got that technology? Look into it.
@@DC-bp8sx hahahahaha i need your drugs!
@@DC-bp8sx agree I like that theory
Or they've seen similar examples and decided it's not worth driving all the way out to the suburbs to see the same thing.
more like ew
They completely forgot to talk about the fact, that other civilizations in space might be very dangerous. So except from some predatory species there might only two other kinds of civilizations out there: those still unable to reach into the sky and the dead ones.
