He's a musician's musician. Years ago Michael Brecker told me that he truly admires Grossmans playing.

Steve is one of the giants of the music. Great to see him getting long overdue recognition in his own native land. The musicians have always known how great he is but his being overlooked by the jazz police is in my opinion a sad commentary.
Thanks to Brian Pace for this piece. Kudos too.
PS Larry Willis comments were beautiful and on the money. Larry is a great artist in his own right.

Steve Grossman " Some Shapes to Come " is one of the Greatest releases in Jazz Fusion history and imo Steve's best release all time! His straight ahead stuff is great too though!

I met Steve when he was in Santiago with Elvin Jones way back in 1972, when I was honored introducing them at a concert. And later we became closer when he came back in 1976 with "Stone Alliance". I always admired his talent, his music and felt proud when he called me a friend. His greatnes as a man I knew when in '76 he tought and played to chilean musicians with great warmth and absolute abscence of selfishness. Now I feel very sad and sorry to know about his decess and I hope to meet him again somewhere talking about, playing and listening to the music we both loved here on earth.

Steve Grossman isn't even on that record, the saxophonist on Live Evil is Gary Bratz,so the guy made two mistakes in one sentence.
