man something that no one talks about enough is his mid-play recoveries. i know johnny touched on it a little, but he consistently recoveries from his awkward positions with superior car control. At 13:39, the empty jump to ofc recover faster, but put him far back enough to get the power on his shot he wouldnt have been able to generate otherwise. The turn back onto the wall was amazing at 4:25 And his boost usage mid-flip is impeccable, combined with his near-perfect dodge control is what allows him to accelerate in awkward directions with speed allows his high paced gameplay
He’s just a creative and mechanical genius. Feels like he’s from the future and came back in time to troll everybody. I’ve watched a lot of RL and am pretty good myself, I’ve never seen anything remotely similar to him. This is the best player to ever touch the game, enjoy it.
You guys really need to stop throwing around the term "peak" without knowing the meaning. Peaking is when someone is playing at their absolute best, and wont play like that again unless they get better and raise their ceiling. Consistency is very important. Zen hasn't just played well for one game, he's consistently been annihilating every top 1v1 player on the planet one by one. Not just that, but his skill stays consistent in 2v2 as well, dominating everybody. 3v3 scrims and everything too. He is overall the best 1v1 player in the world, and arguably top 3 potentially in RLCS. Just because someone plays really well doesn't mean they are playing at their peak. A good player earns the title of being good by proving they can play well consistently, which Zen has clearly done.
I can't believe what I just watched, best series I've ever seen! And great entertainment too! The 2nd match is the game of the year so far, no doubt, just incredible. Mawkzy is Mawkzy but there's something with Zen that makes him even more special I think, those recoveries and big IQ plays and the skill that goes with it, it truly is something.

I feel like Zen has some of the most wicked plays, similar to Dark in the air with the consistent resets but the ground play is like Joreuz with the recoveries and speed almost.
In my personal opinion Dark seems a little more choreographed. Like he knows what shot he's going for when he takes off. Zen seems more unpredictable and able to adapt more in the air to what the defender is doing. And he's so well rounded on top of that. Insane.
Zen is just too good for sure, he has an ability to control the game with all these perfect little touches that would be a single touch for most players but for him he turns it in to a setup. So many negative angle flips, recovery flips to the opposite side of the ball to control the field and always stay relevant. This style is god tier in 1's and 2's when you have full control of the field but it does remain to see what happens at the very top tier of 3's. He will for sure be formidable but it can sometimes be what makes a player god tier in 1's or 2's can hold them back when they become only 33% of the team and get less field time and have to let other people play with them. I just think his level of control is what makes him great in 1's and I bet he can carry almost any 2's game no matter his team mate, but 3's is more chaotic and no amount of control in slow scenarios usually beats out solid rushing players. What was very interesting to see here is that zen totally negated mawkzy's flicks, which can be a bi product of mawkzy being so good at them. The fact he is so good at them, if you are zen tier they almost become easier to read because if you have full confidence in mawkzy to make that flick and have the read capabilities of zen, it becomes easier in some way.

JohnnyBoi, you're overthinking it man, plan b is a good name, it's fun to say, and it's catching on cause it resonates with what that move evokes, it's the very last possible move you can make before the car is no longer in the air, time to put plan b into action. Johnny I have two completely different thoughts in reply to your commentary: 1. I feel like quick-chat smack-talk should not be against the rules, but it is often without tact or class. A bad look usually, but not always (not in this series anyway). 2. I totally agree that “plan B” is a misnomer for the reason you mention. I just want to use that point as a segway into another misnomer in rocket league that I would love to hear your thoughts on: The *Fifty-Fifty* - which suggests there is an element of chance, when the game is completely deterministic.
The game is completely deterministic (aside from kick-off positions and spawns which are random), but does that automatically imply that there is no luck? I wonder if those are mutually exclusive. On one hand I tend to agree with you, but on the other hand, it seems that luck does exists in small amounts due to the fact that the game works in such a way that our brains cannot fully comprehend it, either due to speed or lack of 'complete' car control. For example, pros do not always have perfect control over their cars (i.e. misflipping due to mistimed inputs), and with regard to reading how a ball is going to bounce off of some kind of surface, or even if the ball is going to bounce at all. Some make the argument that the game is physics based and that it therefore does not contain luck, however, I would say that this is actually what introduces luck and sets it apart from a game like chess, a game truly deterministic that doesn't contain an element of luck. If a game like Rocket League cannot be perfected by any human being due to the way our brains are wired and how we process information such that the way we play the game doesn't just boil down to decision making, can we really say that there is no element of luck?
@@garybuttherissilent5896 I take your point - luck is a perfectly reasonable way to look at not knowing the outcome of a collision, and no player is good enough to predict with absolute certainty how the ball will react in the messy arena of rocket league. My issue with the name “50-50” is that it implies the outcome is *entirely* due to luck, when we all know that good players can manipulate the outcome in their favor. It is common to hear “this player is great at 50-50s” or some other statement about the skill involved. 50-50 is a coin flip, but most simultaneous collisions are strategized by either player. And the name also oversimplifies the goal of the collision. 50-50 for what, precisely? The ball going backwards or forwards? What about sideways? What is the 50% chance referring to? I feel like RW9 has been filling that control sector as of late. I do hope Khalid sees a return to form in the near future. My personal favorite 1's player of all time.
I've said it before....FRENCH PLAYERS ARE DANGEROUS. Unique, fast, like MJ on the field. There's another legend , my personal favorite I think from France...
Man, people who get mad at Mawkzy for his quick chats are discrediting the player them self. If Zen is a good enough player, and certainly he's been looking world class, a little quick chat shouldn't be disallowed so as not to disturb the other player(s). Certainly, Zen dominated enough to win, and excelled in doing so, even with Mawkzy's trash talk (which i love.) this continues to show how well rounded Zen is. What's more, people who get mad at Mawkzy for his trash talk are discouraging the implantation of the various uses of the game. Rocket League is imo the best game of all time, and people are getting mad at a player for using one of the uses that has been there for most of, if not all, of Rocket Leagues existence? I'm speaking to all you who are angry at this comment-quit making excuses and start behaving maturely.
I think Johnny is confused about the whole “plan b” thing. Of course it’s done intentionally, but when you’re going up the wall oftentimes you aren’t *planning* on performing such a shot, and if all else fails and you can’t get under the ball with enough power to win the battle against the ball’s downward momentum, you always have plan b. That’s why it’s called what it is. I think he’s being disingenuous saying “oh well it looks to me like he meant that” well of course he meant it. Doesn’t mean that’s what he was *planning* to do when he went up the wall. Of course I could be wrong and every time someone performs that shot they had it in their head from the moment they started the play, but I doubt it. I think it’s a clever and very descriptive name but Johnny is no stranger to battling rocket league nomenclature and sometimes I agree with him, just not this time.
I agree 100%, and it confuses me a bit that Johnny, who is well-educated in the game, can not see why it is the case. plan b is such a clever and funny name for the shot, as it very often is a "backup plan", for when you e.g. does not get the flip reset and then aim to do something creative. And it is also the case for the pros, of course they are meaning to do it, but that is not what plan b is indicating, is it pretty clear that it is also often the plan b (literally) for when the pros are doing it, and even if not, it´s still a fun name since it often is. So it is a bit sad that he tries to riducule the name, since it is a funny and creative name for the weird shot imo. Another point, it is not even the same, or an undercatagory, as the pogo, ofc it has similarities as you are hitting the ground not in the wheels, but to do a "plan b", you don´t need to pogo. What I mean is, pogo is the bouncing thing of the car, hence why you can fail the pogo if you car does not jump up. With a plan b, you don´t need to bounce the car up, as the ball will bounce away if hit correctly, no matter the up-momentum of the car. It seems Johnny is a bit confused by this, or maybe it is a mix of him being a bit annoyed by all the new names people give mechanics still :/ Pogo shot is a worse name in my opinion as it just sound like someone doing a pogo into a shot, as often done by dark.
This is the ONLY time where I agree with Johnny. Pogo is just the better term. It describes the movement, not the intention. If someone goes for an aerial trying to score directly, but hits the backboard and then goes for the double that would also be a "Plan B".
@@BrawlLegendLink but a pogo is a ground bounce, where you bounce your car up off the ground and then hit the ball. Why assign a name to two different shots? It’s just confusing.
@@subtleknife1 Unless you land on your wheels it always is a pogo, because you didn't actually land. You might just not bounce really high. It's the same principle. And like I said, "plan B" could also apply to double taps

It would be like an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object
I feel like RW9 has been filling that control sector as of late. I do hope Khalid sees a return to form in the near future. My personal favorite 1's player of all time.
4:27 ... WTF is that turn?! 🤯
Should we see zen vs rw9?
I've said it before....FRENCH PLAYERS ARE DANGEROUS. Unique, fast, like MJ on the field. There's another legend , my personal favorite I think from France...
The trash talking made it so much more entertaining
After app jacks video about zen and after all these show matches, i ask myself….will zen destroy the skill ceiling?
no. dark and jstn still have better mechs than him 100% and you could say firstkiller, vatira, and aztral do too with a high amount of doubt
JOHNNNY WE ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE ZEN VS NWPO
Y'all debate using quick chat for mental warfare, I bind what a save to my jump button like a true menace, we are not the same
Zen vs monkeymoon? I’m curious about how their play styles would mix!! Monkeymoon is my favorite all the way but this guy Zen is a game changer
where the hell do i buy a zen jersey
Maybe also could mix in some wave dash kickoffs, but clearly not necessary.
imo trashtalk is pretty lame in show matches but most of these players are still young so its whatever. best show match ive seen in a long time
Like to stop spoilers
the greatest french weapon : trashtalking
I, as a dutch speaking person, had fun with Johnny calling mawksy a flicker over and over xD
This was my exact thought. Its a plan b. Even if you werent intending on it. Its still a plan lmao
Wow Game 2 was unbelievable!
bro how does zen play like this? i thought dan was mechanical, and then it was trk who was wowing me with the mechs and then it was yanxnz, and somehow Zen has made them all look like old veterans who haven’t retired yet with his car control
Rw9 vs Zen need to happen ASAP
can we get zen vs dark?
Now we need to see Zen v Nwpo and Zen v Vatira
Zen Vs NWPO would be entertaining for my soul
still waiting for that Yan or Rw9 vs Zen. Surely he can be stopped lol
Is Maxkzy part of GenG?
Bro took down appjack, mawkzy, lost, and rezears in 2 days.. If I were Karmine Corp, I'd be scared for the next upcoming weeks of RLCS..
Freestylers invented the mechanic so they get to name it. You have to respect it, Johnny. Its a Plan B, not a Pogo shot.
Imagine getting Braz17ed by one of the top players in the world with just over 2 minutes left and coming back to win the game.
Unreal.
Zen vs vatira maybe?
BRO THAT COMEBACK FROM ZEN
what trail is zen using?
I been saying this kid is one of the best already he is insane
Who is next?
mawkzys flicks will always impress me
Don’t think I have ever seen anyone like Zen in the ones scene.
Zen vs Vatira next Time?
Lmao I chuckled at “lowkey beef”
