I love your versions and thank you for your honesty re the fabric and pattern placements. I immediately saw two eyes 👀 but think you are so brave using bold patterns. In general. We have all been there, want to uncut out our patterns quickly and end up making a mistake. But they are there to learn from so an important part of our sewing journey. I love your playsuits so much. Very you! ❤

They're all beautiful! Would love to make a Zadie one day! With regard to the print, it could potentially be a fun project for a Cricut. With the right colour iron on vinyl and some creative cut outs to go with the print, you could potentially have a creative solution to print issues that are worrying you (although it looks great as is)!

I love a Zadie having made two. All of yours are great but I fully understand how you feel. We are a strange breed ... if we feel something is not quite right we will never feel totally comfortable.

Tamlyn! You look absolutely stunning in your final Zadie! I know we're our own worst critics, but I hope it grows on you. The pattern placement doesn't bother me at all and I think the fabric looks absolutely stunning on you (I love dark colours on you!) 💜💜💜

Tamlyn, all of your versions of the Zadie are lovely😊. I was thinking, if you’re really that unhappy with your
‘Final version’ you could make that one into a play suit also. It wouldn’t solve the ‘moon boob’ issue, but because the legs would be shorter, you wouldn’t be so conscience of the pattern placement on the legs. Again, I think the jumpsuit looks great but if the things you talked about bother you, you won’t wear it.

Oh! You so perfectly described what seems to happen to all of us! I know we are our own harshest judge, and it is hard to let go of those thoughts.
I like someone's comment to cut it to the play suit length. I also think the baggy bum situation is inherent in jump suits so that there is room enough to bend over and sit. I think it is a delicate balance to achieve just the right amount of wiggle room without looking too baggy. I think you achieved a really nice fit!
Also, it seems like no matter how careful we are to try and think of everything, so often there is always something that we miss! Totally frustrating!
The thing I love about the online sewing community is that these things are mentioned so we don't get down on ourselves, thinking everyone else is perfect, and everyone is so good to focus on the positive in the end, sewist and viewers alike. Thank you for sharing so freely, and thanks to Sam for his behind-the-scenes contributions!

Thank you for your honesty with your Zadies. Love the playsuit versions. With your final version I understand your disappointment - like the idea of shortening it to a playsuit but if the moons are really the issue and you had enough material could you bear to resew a new front section? Great video.

All 4 versions are lovely but I particularly like the playsuit versions on you, they look really great. I've been thinking of making the Zadie for a while 🤔I should just go for it! All your comments on sizing are really helpful, thank you!

Just getting round to thinking about making the Zadie Tamlyn. All of your versions are gorgeous. I get what you mean about the fabric layout, but wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't said. I also get what you mean about having such an expensive fabric and wanting to get a great make from it and then when you do make it, you do something wrong when cutting! So annoying! Thanks for sharing the detail of your makes. 😻

This was fun! I especially loved the cherry one. I loled at the moon boobs-they're not noticeable, and I almost cried at your pattern layout disappointment. I've done the same, and I'm sorry you didn't love the one you set out to love, that always stings when all the effort was put in.
    Thanks for sharing!

You've done a fab job. I think we often notice pattern placement issues in our makes that no-one else would see. You might find if you put it away for a bit the feelings you have about yourself in regard to it will settle ? Glad you are enjoying the other versions! I've made it twice but still not happy with the fit....Have gone back to the ready to sew jazz instead!

Excellent review and so informative. Really appreciate your honesty about the final version although I agree with previous comment about making it into a playsuit. After experiencing a couple of fails lately it is reassuring to know that even accomplished sewers have disappointing outcomes. Thank you for a great review.

It is tricky when you have noticed something you aren't happy with as you can't then unsee it. However, I don't think the moon's are that obvious, not sure I would have noticed if you hadn't said about it.
I love your playsuit versions, all I can think about is summery clothing atm as it is still quite hot! I wonder if that might be in part why people haven't commented on your final version?
Lovely makes and I am now tempted to try a Zadie especially in a playsuit length.

Thanks for the tips in this blog I’ve decided I want to make this in a bold cloud 9 fabric that I’ve been resisting buying for a while so don’t want to make something up I don’t love so I definitely will consider what you’ve said and make a toile. Sorry you don’t love your final version- I honestly don’t think anyone else would notice but I know what you mean once somethings in your head- I hope you do wear it as it’s lovely as are all your versions 😊

I wouldn't notice the pattern placement on the last version. In my humble opinion, it's gorgeous. I'm not sure store bought clothing considers pattern placement. Perhaps, as sewists, we over-think our sewing makes?

I think all the versions look really good. The playsuits are definitely the stars - they just seem to really suit you.
I don't think the 'moon boobs' in the final version are much of an issue as they are pretty well offset. I also don't think the leg patterning is an issue as it's not really noticeable when you are wearing the jumpsuit - I get that it might be more of an issue when on a hanger or flat. Do you think you might like this version more if you made it a playsuit? You could find ways to reuse the rest of the trouser fabric. I actually think it looks really nice, but if you are not happy you won't get the wear out of it and that would be a pity.

  • @katet.3543

Beautiful work! You can appliqué designs over the moon boobs and yellow moons. Even partially appliquéing bits like some over the top of one moon and the bottom of another, or any of the brighter matching leg motifs like the eyes, would at least take away some of the bother from your mind. great work though on all of your projects! I think you look great :) PS I did the same thing, with a large paisley knit, that had totally matching huge paisleys on each thigh ugh! ... the worst thing was that I made them for a friend and didn't even notice til she sent me a pic, ohhh it was painful!!

I’m sure happy that I watched your vlog! I have the Zadie pattern but have been hesitating because of the rise and sizing issue. Four CM is a lot to take out of the rise. I would have guessed at half that amount and would have been disappointed. All versions look great on you and I LOVE the fabric for the last version. I didn’t even notice “moon boobs”! Well done Tamlyn!

It's inspiring to see all the versions you've made. I've made two and a hacked dress version. I'm so sorry for the cutting issue because your were so excited about the fabric. You may not be looking for suggestions, but one idea is to do some color blocking -- maybe replace half of the front with another fabric--the way people are doing color blocking with gingham. Or, place a patch pocket over one of the moons. A little change might make a big difference. I hope the disappointment fades away and the joy expands!

  • @AvrilBavril
    @AvrilBavril Год назад

I love all of them. Have you considered a wee patch pocket over one of the moons in the front? Might feel less moon boogie for you. I’m about to make one but want the low crotch as I am self conscious about that area and don’t ever wear trousers because of it.

Tbh I love the last one; the fabric is such a funky, unusual print, it's a great match for the pattern. I definitely wouldn't notice the print placement, but I know it's completely different for the one who's made it; being so close to the process, you notice everything you'd do differently another time!

Hi Tamlyn, thanks for this review, I have made the Zadie, I struggled with what size to make. I decide a 10 but then did a12. It’s not wearable, the crotch is nearly to my knees. Don’t know why but will try doing another one making the rise adjustment as you suggested. I am not new to sewing but am to needing to make adjustments eg FBA etc, now my body shape has changed with age. The top,is also too big. How do you keep the wrap over from gaping.?? I found your review from Ruan, yesterday I spent about 5 hours in my sewing shed, making Xmas dresses for my friends granddaughters, so I watched RUclips vlogs and followed Ruan and Rachel. This was a lovely way to sew as they kept me company and the time just flew. I also love all your Zadie. I think my daughter would love one as well, so I really want to perfect it. I also will follow your suggestion to look at finished garment size measurements too. I made the PE please to meet you pants and they are also Hugh. Have you ever made them? Cheers from🇦🇺

I think version 4 looks cute but agree it would bother me too. If you chopped the legs off to playsuit length I think that would improve the placement on legs as the thigh section is less patterned. Would that give you a big enough off cut to recut one side of the bodice?

Thanks for the vid I have made a toile. I have a question if you shorten the rise does it make it more difficult?? to get on and off? I made my toile from a quite stiff good quality cotton bed sheet and it looks like I’m going to paint the Tyne Bridge!! However I decided it would be fab in a viscose soft fabric which I need to buy yet. I used to live in the North East but now live in the Costa Blanca in Spain and there’s not a whole lot of choice of fabric shops!! But I’ll find some. I particularly liked the first playsuit on you, it was a nice fit. I think because you are a sewist you think the pattern placement of your Jumpsuit is not good but I doubt others would notice. Many bought outfits I find display this. Just wear it. I have found viscose takes on this woolly look when washed with other things almost like when you leave a tissue in a pocket, - ask me how I know? But they all looked lovely and I can’t wait to make my proper Zadie. Many thanks

Great vlog as usual Tamlyn you have amazing patience to make so many versions. I made one in a viscose sateen and what can I say I must love a saggy crotch 😆 it's not too bad. All your versions are amazing and you look fab in them all I can't believe that no one has commented. I definitely want to make another Zadie it is sooo comfortable but I agree that the bias binding was the most difficult/tricky bit (having never made my own before) also the fabric I had used would NOT iron into the creases needed so I had to sort of fold and stich as I went. Don't worry about the pattern matching on your final version we are all our own worst critics!! x

Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts on sizing down. I’ve had similar thoughts on the Zadie and wonder how you dealt with the crossover parts where the bodice and bottom half meet if different sizes. Did you just size down at the outer leg and rise and leave the crossover at the higher size which may ensure there’s still good coverage for the tummy crossover? Thanks

I think you had a blind spot when you forgot the pattern placement. You’d spent so long thinking about the fit and this happens all the time.
I bought the Sew Different pattern which is more or less the same. I really want to try it but first need to trace the pattern, then make a toile. On my pattern it mentions a low crotch. I love your play suits but also love the chambray one, your first version. The expensive one is also lovely and some fabric, cheap or dear does wash badly. Do wear it because it’s lovely and nobody would ever notice the pattern placement. Maybe you’re being too critical of yourself. Be kind and go for it. 😊

I think your overanalyzing the print placement of your final Zadie. If the bananas had been flowers and if they'd been equal they would have looked odd but because they are bananas and their off set they don't look Bobby placement. Also because the design is similar on the front legs it looks more designer.Maybe because it looks so good on you people don't feel the need to comment. They most probably think it's bought and won't suit them so no need to comment.I love all your Zadie's on you and I think the first one is beautiful.
