    Bleeding, also known as a hemorrhage, haemorrhage, or simply blood loss, is blood escaping from the circulatory system from damaged blood vessels.[1] Bleeding can occur internally, or externally either through a natural opening such as the mouth, nose, ear, urethra, vagina or anus, or through a wound in the skin. Hypovolemia is a massive decrease in blood volume, and death by excessive loss of blood is referred to as exsanguination.[2] Typically, a healthy person can endure a loss of 10-15% of the total blood volume without serious medical difficulties (by comparison, blood donation typically takes 8-10% of the donor's blood volume).[3] The stopping or controlling of bleeding is called hemostasis and is an important part of both first aid and surgery. The use of cyanoacrylate glue to prevent bleeding and seal battle wounds was designed and first used in the Vietnam War. Today many medical treatments use a medical version of "super glue" instead of using traditional stitches used for small wounds that need to be closed at the skin level.
    Hemorrhaging is broken down into four classes by the American College of Surgeons' advanced trauma life support (ATLS).[4]
    Class I Hemorrhage involves up to 15% of blood volume. There is typically no change in vital signs and fluid resuscitation is not usually necessary.
    Class II Hemorrhage involves 15-30% of total blood volume. A patient is often tachycardic (rapid heart beat) with a reduction in the difference between the systolic and diastolic blood pressures. The body attempts to compensate with peripheral vasoconstriction. Skin may start to look pale and be cool to the touch. The patient may exhibit slight changes in behavior. Volume resuscitation with crystalloids (Saline solution or Lactated Ringer's solution) is all that is typically required. Blood transfusion is not usually required.

    Lol, I was rather confident I knew all of this already however everytime I injure myself I second guess all my medical knowledge.
    Like, " That bruise is gonna kill me I know it!", even though I know the kind of bruise I have just indicates light subdermal bleeding.

      I had upper GI bleeding and lost most of my blood. I noticed it in my poop, later I woke up with my heart racing and big sweat. I called 911 and in the ER they gave 12 units of blood, which is about what the average human carries. The process was extremely painful, and by this time you should be dead if you haven't made it to the ER.

      @@sneak6236 Hi sneak! I woke up about 2 am with a racing heart, sweating and collapsed when I tried to walk. At the ER the pain from blood loose was intense and after they got my jugular vein opened and gave me some blood I passed out and got flown to a big city hospital. All three times I lost blood they gave me 12 units of blood which is why I'm wondering why I'm still alive. My doctor simply said, "Oh, sometimes they have to do that." I asked her about brain damage and she said for the amount of blood you lost for so long there is most likely some brain damage. I was passing blood through my butt and didn't know that until I got to the hospital, I was in the hospital for 16 days and was only 110 lbs, when I got home.
      The whole experience was painful and fascinating as I'm now healing up pretty good. I'm an alcoholic and alcohol can cause pancreatitis which is where my problem started. I've been in AA for 4 years now and can't drink anymore.

      @@markh4926 damn, that's a shit go man, so there were no symtoms leading up to the blood loss it just happened out of no where ? & I'm guessin ure in the states ? Which is good cos you have large cities inland and on the coast to be able to get flown to. here in Australia all our major cities are on the coast hours away from any inland smaller cities, anyway yer I was wondering cos the last day or two I been having sweaty palms a little bit nothing crazy but get randomly light headed & off balance plus this feeling of impending doom & weakness, tingling body parts I also get randomly confused and can't focus on what people are saying or what I'm doing almost like Alzheimer's aha but I'm only 19 , I don't have full on bloody stool I do see black specks in mine but that's it, so I'm curious wether I could be bleeding
      Edit: good to hear you've recovered bro, yea same here all of my problems are caused from alcohol so I get pretty paranoid about bleeding

    What is difference between bleeding and hemorrhage?

    • @MedicalCentric
      @MedicalCentric  7 месяцев назад

      "Bleeding" is a general term referring to the escape of blood from blood vessels, encompassing a wide range of situations from minor cuts to more substantial events like nosebleeds or menstrual bleeding. In contrast, "hemorrhage" carries a connotation of more severe and uncontrolled blood loss. It is commonly used to describe profuse bleeding, whether internal or external, often associated with trauma, medical conditions, or surgical complications. The distinction lies in the degree and potential danger of the blood loss, with "hemorrhage" indicating a more critical and urgent situation compared to the broader term "bleeding." Context and severity guide the use of these terms in medical discussions.

      The blood vessels in your eyes can burst which causes bleeding.

    • @IsaacClodfelter
      @IsaacClodfelter Год назад

      Late to help for your exams but yes we can. In cases were someone is bleeding from all orifices, e.g. the mouth, nose, ears, anus, they will also likely seemingly cry blood as the tiny little blood vessels in the eyes are very fragile and if they are giving out everywhere else those ones almost certainly would.
      There are a few vipers and cobras with venom that can induce this before it kills us. Kinda wild.
