It is somewhat gratifying, as an opponent to Mack (I was game 2 - the first actual game) that he has to adjust to play the 6-minute games. Definitely affects me (a much weaker opponent). In our game, Mack said in the commentary (would have been more points to play ZEES one spot lower). Something I'd catch in a 25-minute game, but in a 6-minute game - sometimes (to me) it is "find a good play and move" vs. "find the best play and get timed out"
Macondo finds 5 plays tied at 97.22% (35/36) - (N)EoTENIC, (I)NdICTEE, ENTICEs, CINE(AS)TEs, and (N)EsCIENT, all of which lose to exactly an II draw. Apparently (G)ENETICs and (G)ENTrICE also lose to at least an SX draw as well, and possibly more. There could be a 1-tile play that wins 100%, but Macondo is not 100% reliable in those situations and I didn't bother checking them.
For those wondering, I joined the division late from my phone during dinner in an Olive Garden after playing 8 games in a multi-day Scrabble tourney. I felt bad that the division was uneven. I ended up playing MAHjO(N)G through an n for 24 in one of my games, burning my blank as a J. My phone didn't register my S and I clicked "play" too fast.
Gotcha, sorry for the confusion there -- I'd assumed it was a deliberate forfeit since there was no response after my comment in the tournament chat and you played all the subsequent games. I would've thought if you joined late the first round pairings wouldn't show you at all, and you'd just be paired in the second round starting with an 0-1 record. I added a note to the top of the description to correct this
When you played GLISSADE in seconds, my first thought was “Well, that’s going to give it away.” Glad to see you agreed.
Yep. I was the opponent - and figured "Oh... I'm playing Mack"
A wise man once said: If you are sure you will lose if you draw II, assume you won't draw II. Good thing it worked :)
Haha exactly!
when collab with nigel richards
nigel very rarely lets himself be recorded
I'm ready whenever he is!
How about collaboration with Will Anderson or the guy who ran this tourney?
tbf for most of Mack's opponents forfeit is the top equity play

@@mackmeller I am pro-clickbait! Your reaction was hilarious and made perfect sense given what the tournament room showed :)
