It will be extremely worth it and rewarding to record and put your music out Rob, you can get decent vinyl copies made these days for a decent price too. My new project i decided is music with poetry based around famous musicians you heard it here first!

I didn’t know the Jim Sullivan story. Very interesting. Lovely extensive packaging.
Both Supergrass and PJ Harvey are artists I seem to have completely missed out on. With the latter I think I was sceptical of how much the music press were enthusing about her.
Keep going with recording your music!

      Thanks John
I do really like the Jim Sullivan, it was long overdue for me to get a copy.
I was late to the party with PJ Harvey but have been a Supergrass fan since 1995.
The recording is coming on well, but I've a long way to go yet!.

Hi Rob, I really need to get a copy of the Jim Sullivan album. Always nice to see PJ Harvey albums, although I was a little disappointed with the latest. And thanks for tipping me off about the Jan Dukes De Grey reissue on Amazon. It took 3 weeks to arrive but we'll worth the wait. Cheers Mike

Yes, the Jim Sullivan album is a wonderful , unique record.
There's definitely a split camp with regard to the latest PJ Harvey.
Glad you managed to get a copy of Mice and Rats in the Attic, what a bonkers, crazilly inventive record that is.

Hiya Rob. Good to see you back. That Supergrass looks banging. I didn’t get that one I got the CD they re-issued at the same time. Reason? I got that huge box set The Strange Ones from 2020. It is one of my dearest box sets for sure! Love that band. Saw them on their Diamon Ho-Ha tour. Wish I had P J on vinyl. I got Let England Shake on CD in Scotland ironicaly enough 😄
Thank you for another splendid video!

      Thanks Morten!
I was interested in the Strange Ones box, but then they reissued the albums individually on vinyl, so I went down that road.
Yes, Supergrass are a great live band, I saw them last September in Birmingham at a festival, Gaz Coombes was in terrific voice.
Let England Shake is a phenomenal album.
      all the best.

Hi Rob. Some nice pick ups; particularly the Jim Sullivan LP. I do like Supergrass, but I'm happy with just the CDs I have ... I picked up an LP this week for a quid in a charity shop - 'Crown Of Horn' by Martin Carthy. That was a pleasant surprise ... I hope you're keeping well. All the best, Carl

      Hi Carl
Nice find with Martin Carthy, I saw him at the Moseley Folk Festival last year.
Yes, I have all Supergrass' albums on CD but couldn't resist the vinyl reissues as they're probably my favourite band from the 90s.
Thanks for watching and commenting hope you're keeping well 😉 🙏

Hi Rob, must revisit that Supergrass album. Vagabonds is one of my favourite Lizzy albums. Thanks for heads-up as wasn't aware of that Morricone release and I have the 2020 release. Let England Shake is a great album and I'm really enjoying her latest release I like the mood it sets. Have a good week recording...

      Hi Dale
Yes, I'm really enjoying the vibe of Pollys' new album too, much more stripped back and atmospheric, it seems to already be splitting camps though.
      Definitely reccomend the Morricone.

Great pick ups Rob. Totally with you regarding Polly Harvey. I love Let England Shake although my favourite is the next one Hope Six Demolition Project although must say disappointed with the current one. Mike

Not heard Hope Six Demolition Project, must give that a listen.
The latest album is strange and atmospheric, I can see it possibly dividing fans

Good to hear your home recording project is going well Rob. 8 songs....you could throw on a cover of 'Stormtroopers in Stilettos' and get it up to 9! I picked up the reissue of Vagabond by Thin Lizzy a couple of years ago but haven't really spun it enough to work out what I think of it. The Supergrass reissues I'm trying to resist (have 'In It For the Money' and have told myself that's enough, but I am tempted to get 'Road to Rouen' and 'Life On Other Planets' which is possibly my second favourite also). Quick factoid, the song 'Grace' on that album was written for Chris Difford's young daugher Grace, who the band befriended while recording the album at Chris' studio Heliocentric. Cheers, James

      @robison5396  Год назад

Ha ha!..yes, now I think about doing a cover, that doesn't seem a bad idea !..my recordings are basically 8 track and fairly lo-fi, acoustic, but probably wouldn't have the grand scale of the original.( I'd have to ramp up the reverb!!).
Interesting fact about Grace, and I only just learned about that the other day after watching their documentary ' Home Movie' .
You need to play ' Vagabonds' again, I think it's fabulous.
      Cheers James.

Hi Rob, saw the Jim Sullivan in an online retailer's recent sale, but didn't go for it - a mistake?
Really like the first 3 Lizzy albums, and Vagabonds is the best of the 3.
Good luck with the recording sessions - we look foward to hearing the results, expecially the 20 minute prog epic that is bound to be part of the project.
    All the very best...Pete

      @robison5396  Год назад +1

Ha ha!..not sure about the 20 min prog epic Pete ( but you never know!)..Jim Sullivans' UFO is for me, one of those rare cult one offs' that genuinely lives up to the hype..I've been reliably informed since that he recorded some other more ' country' stuff, but I would imagine UFO is definitely the one to get.
Yes, Vagabonds is a great listen.
Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you're keeping well .

  • @stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147

That Sullivan album is very interesting, sad it was all he did. I know the group Supergrass but no nothing of their music, how would you describe their music? I think we are all running out of room and yet more records appear lol

    • @robison5396
      @robison5396  Год назад

      Hi Steve
I think you showed UFO fairly recently, which reminded me to check it out again, so thanks for that.
Supergrass are a strange mix of punk, pop, rock, glam and everything in between..sometimesthey can sound derivative but the band puts their own spin on the music and with Gaz Coombes distinctive vocals, you know its' them.
The first album I Should Coco is quite punky and upbeat, so would probably be right up your street..their second album though is my favourite ' In it for the Money' which is more accomplished and slightly more mature songwriting..quite Beatles esque I guess??..You can hear artists like Bolan and early Roxy Music for sure.their 3rd is even more studio orientated, less quirky..the 4th ' Life on other planets' is a return to shorter punchier songs and more urgent.
The 5th and last albums are decent too, but not essential.
I think you'd be into Supergrass.

  • @anotherfatbeardedmantalkin5893

    Hello Rob!
I like Jim Sullivan's UFO, but his second album is more up my country street. It was another of a group of country folk albums released on the Playboy label.
I'm a bit concerned about that Light in the Attic release of UFO. The original releases didn't have that image of the figure in the desert in the gatefolds, and I have a suspicion that that photograph isn't actually of Jim Sullivan. My thought is Light in the Attic pulled in a stock image to add more to the story of his disappearance. They reused the photograph for an album of unreleased material. I might well be wrong, but If I'm right, that's rather distasteful.
    Cheers - Hedley

      Hi Hedley
Hmm, a cynical ' cash- in' photo then, to capitalise on the myth of his dissapearance ..??... I guess publishers will try this sort of thing on and ignore any complaints until theres' a sniff of a law suit..

creativity is a drug that is good for your confidence - don't apologise for time on that - video creation is as far as i get - no musical instruments on my cv - luv supergrass - heres a link to my review of the latest gaz coombes - good stuff - Gaz Coombes Turn The car Around ruclips.net/video/gUbEYw3Mjjo/видео.html
    - thin lizzy - remember seeing them live back in the 70s -

Thanks John, and you're right, its' kinda ridiculous of me to make apologies for being creative isn't it??.
I've heard some of Gaz Coombes last solo album and I liked what I heard.
A real regret of mine was never seeing Thin Lizzy live.
