100% Before Dynamite, I had a feeling that the match wasn't going to go the way CM Punk expected it to go (in kayfabe). And it was all because of what MJF said back in Dynamite: Beach Break earlier in the year. MJF: "You people are going to get to see the real CM Punk. The CM Punk who loses his fake smile the second he doesn't get what he wants. The CM Punk who blames all of his failures on everyone else but himself." It's going to be CM Punk being bitter and blaming everybody when he was the one who decided to come back too soon which inevitably caused the reinjury. Can't wait to see how this storyline plays out!
This match imo can either be "a punishment due to the backstage heat or smth", Punk's injury returning, or a plan to make CM Punk heel. I was legitimately shocked.
When this match was announced, I thought to myself “this match is too good to be on the card for Dynamite, there has to be an angle.” I think the outcome could lead to not just a CM Punk heel turn, but an MJF return as well.
I get they want to plant seeds and needed people to see this happen for it to pay off. I think doing the injury on an early kick was the mistake. Instead of it being on a dive, landing on his feet from a move, or even a submission.

Personally I expected Mox to win (but not with this much dominance) because it is the most organic way to turn Punk full heel. A heel turn based on ego is a tale as old as time, and it will do great things for both AEW and Punk, who I think will take the title back from Mox at some point
Punk still isn’t 100% or perhaps even 80% and it will be months before he is ready to return full time to the ring. This match was a product of that not a heel turn for Punk.

Nobody slow builds the way AEW does for example (Omega/Hangman, Bucks/Hangman/Omega, Jericho/MJF, MJF/Wardlow, and the list goes on) it incredible storytelling at the end of the day which is the ultimate beauty of pro wrestling.

While this match didn't go down very well for whatever reason, I'm glad Mox took the win. His first reign started right before the pandemic, so he never got to enjoy the roar of the crowd like a champ should. Whether or not his ring work is to your liking, I think it's fair to say his love for what he does is apparent.

I’m pretty sure that CM Punk wasn’t medically cleared yet and they had to speed things up by giving the title to Jon Moxley early (spares him from losing the title at All Out in Chicago, his hometown) but I feel like the AEW world title should’ve been vacated when Punk got injured and have Jon Moxley the official and first 2x AEW champion at Forbidden Door

Yeah, I didn't expect AEW to have the balls to allow Jon Moxley to become the undisputed AEW world heavyweight champion! Mox deserves it!! Now CM Punk can eventually return as a heel to try to win back the title, or if he feels he can't wrestle anymore he can at least say he was AEW world heavyweight champion.
It was surprising. It was a good way to get Punk time to fully heal up. It was the best decision to put the belt on Mox, in Ohio, Punk is going to be a raging heel when he returns, and off these two go again. And the story continues.....
Honestly, I hope you’re right. I was disappointed with this small little CM Punk return. I thought they could’ve scripted last weeks promo between the two better. At least to avoid that awkward moment between them. You would think between those three (Inc. Khan), something a little better would’ve been produced.

As will all things pro wrestling, card is subject to change, I think this was the best way they could have got out of any injury based issue. I do look forward to seeing where this goes in the future, its a great story for these two to pick up once Punk is ready to go again.

its totally normal for wrestlers to feel out the crowd then work them. this is nothing new. except on TV their roles are more easily defined. However, they're both babyface (while maintaining a smaller percentage that boo them). So, factor that into the regular wrestling jargain that everoyne leans running the ropes, and mesh that into this: they're gonna work it out. You can see them doing this early on in the match. When they lock up, they work the corners. Mox gets cheered. Punk works to the corner, starts getting booed a little and then starts the dirty tactics (stomping, etc). Yes. I do work.
Moxley needs to treat that belt with respect now. He needs to stop throwing it down like it means nothing. I am sick and tired of the AEW title being treated like a prop

I think it's funny because we all knew Punk was going into this match ASSUMING he was the face, ASSUMING we were behind him. Mox deserved the win, deserved the title, and Punk deserved to lose everything he had built in AEW.
The fact that they kept saying it can go a full hour despite the fact they had a trios match as the main event proved that match being short was planned.
FACTS and it was also reported that punk agreed to have this match booked for this week’s aew dynamite instead of the all out ppv which means that punk may have also agreed to lose in 5 minutes.

Not necessarily. If wrestling was real, you wouldn't expect it to go an hour, but it could push the main event off the card if it did. When Cena and Michaels went an hour, Orton vs Edge was "supposed" to be the main event, and didn't happen.
This match reminded me of Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series I just stared at my TV for a good 5 minutes the shock factor has been unmatched in AEWs history

3:52 Kicks with the right foot but grabs the “injured” left foot. Clearly the left is well planted and the kick well executed with leg slap and all. Punk is ok, this is all story driven. Punk can take losses with minimal impact on being over while Moxley winning helps AEW as a whole.

its totally normal for wrestlers to feel out the crowd then work them. this is nothing new. except on TV their roles are more easily defined. However, they're both babyface (while maintaining a smaller percentage that boo them). So, factor that into the regular wrestling jargain that everoyne leans running the ropes, and mesh that into this: they're gonna work it out. You can see them doing this early on in the match. When they lock up, they work the corners. Mox gets cheered. Punk works to the corner, starts getting booed a little and then starts the dirty tactics (stomping, etc).

3:52 Kicks with the right foot but grabs the “injured” left foot. Clearly the left is well planted and the kick well executed with leg slap and all. Punk is ok, this is all story driven. Punk can take losses with minimal impact on being over while Moxley winning helps AEW as a whole.

Not to mention Punk is able to fully support both legs before Moxley does his 2 suplex finishers when Punk is bent over getting ready to take the moves. Which also requires Punk to jump using both legs to get the rotation during the move. This was flat out garbage booking!
