    Greetings from Iggy (me.. Ignatius). Around 2016... we had Private George, a 1989 SWB W460 230GE auto who lived in a basement in London. He was somewhat holier than your Iggy though with MoT!! Rust me! We then in Malaysia in 2024 now have a Mercedes G2. (George Two). A 1984 LWB 300GD automatic with no chassis rust despite its age. I look to you for inspiration! thank you!

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  5 лет назад +1

      wow good on ye. You were lucky to find a donor body in good condition. For some crazy reason I was determined to keep mine numbers matching, but most of the older G wagons have had very successful engine transplants and in turn breathed new life into their machines. I sometimes think im mad, ambling along in my slower engine but in a way that a part of the fun in it for me.

    Hello!!1
    I write from Spain, I have a G 460 class of 5 doors 300gd in the process of restoration. I hesitate between restoring the front seats or replacing them like you did in the video (min.337). Are they from a clk w208? Do they fit well in the original mercedes g bases? in general, do you recommend the change? Or is it better to upholster the originals? best regards!

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  3 года назад +1

      Hi Angel, I hope your restoration is going well. I still have my original seats but the the clk seats are so much more comfortable. They also look great in my opinion and dont look too much out of place. To fit them isn't such a big job. For driving the clk are better but if you are making the restoration, that the end result is more for looking at than driving then I would restore the original.

Bushing and arms were all replaced a good service and i then detailed the engine. I replaced the exhaust with a full stainless steel magna flow one which transformed the performance that it can now keep up with slower moving traffic... i did say slower moving traffic. Is it possible to upgrade the g wagon 1987 to 2015 if it’s possible how to do it
    I really need help

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  4 года назад

      It is kinda but really is a waste of time, money and a perfectly good W460. The original g wagon should be left as it is. If you try to make them look like something they are not, instead of impressing people, it advertises to the world that you can’t afford the one you really want. If you really want to follow that path, then the newer W463 lends itself better to such mods. W460s are getting rarer all the time and should be cherished for what they are.

    • @soufyanmohamed4756
      @soufyanmohamed4756 4 года назад +1

      Unfortunately it is true waste of money and time as well but I love the G wagon specially the W463 unfortunately it’s unavailable here I thought to import one from Europe I stuck again with the high value of money even 1995 is expensive
      So I figure out to look for 1991 g wagon not necessary to be in perfect mechanical condition and start the upgrading process step by step but the fact is I don’t know where to start

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  4 года назад

      Thanks Colm. You just never know how much work needs to be done. The biggest hurdle was undoing all the damage from a previously horrendous restoration and that’s where a lot of the man hours went into. Good condition panels can be got but the better condition then usually the higher the price. Apart from the new panels, everything else came from G wagons that were in hot climates so zero rust. Sometimes it’s better buying a G in need of restoration so at least you know what work goes into the finished project. Then again if a resto has been fully documented then that can give you good confidence but those are rare and usually costly. Like you I spent years lusting after one and I can say now on the other side, I have no regrets... less money, more stress wrinkles but a happy outcome

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  6 месяцев назад

      I wouldn’t even consider it. A w460 is a w460, a w463 is a w463 and if you want a 2020 shape then buy a 2020 shape. Why pretend something kinda looks like something it definitely not. If someone is trying to make people believe they are richer than they are, by driving a fake vehicle they are only advertising the opposite to the world.

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  4 года назад

      Damian they’re expensive over here too these days. Loads of questions you should answer for yourself. Is it the original w460 that gets you excited or is it the newer ones? If your heart is set on a 460 then what do you plan on doing with it? Road driving? Off roading? Showing? If it’s off roading then you don’t have to be over critical as they all pick up bangs and scars. I aimed to keep mine original, all genuine Mercedes parts and panels with zero rust. I even opted for the original slower engine. There are fewer originals every day and hence maybe the price rises. The danger with buying an already restored vehicle is that you don’t know the quality of the work done. I found that out the hard way with this one as it had suffered severely under a previously TERRIBLE restoration before I bought it. If you do the work yourself at least you can cut that level of uncertainty out of the equation.

      @@MrSteviewander I plan to buy it, and keep it as a daily driver. No off road or something like that I'M not a fan of that. And i'm aiming for the older ones, I don't like those new :) Old diesel would be great. I just bought Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 2001, trying to restore it, but we will see how will it end. In the future a G class will be a must, but I think i will have to sell a kidney or something, hehe :)

    Just found your channel, very impressive finished project, what engine do you have? If it is the om606 or similar, you can tune it for a lot more power without loss of economy or reliability. Check out DPUK on Facebook, Mercedes diesels are what they specialize on.

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  4 года назад

      Thanks a million, yep it was hard work. I kept everything original and matching numbers so its the original617 engine. Ive avoided DPUK. Im aware of them but ive seen numerous bad reports about them in various G wagon forums.

    G waggons are for kids, buy LAFORZA or something thats worth it, g-waggon are so-so expensive, and all for what? Gun-metal gray is alright.

    • @MrSteviewander
      @MrSteviewander  4 года назад

      Ok lets answer your questions....
      why didnt i buy a Laforza... ? they never sold them in Ireland. Maybe had my neighbours bought one in 1980 I'd have one now...
      G wagons are for kids? Had i known that I would have bought mine in a toy store and saved a fortune.
      Its all down to freedom of choice there is no right or wrong, just matters of taste. If you want to judge my taste who is to to say you are right or i am wrong...gun metal grey is also great on the right vehicle and looks bland on others. Thanks for taking the time to comment though
