Airolo/Passes preferential lane CUPRA

Fast lane on the highway from Quinto to the Airolo and the Gotthard Pass exit, without being stuck in traffic jams.
Gotthard traffic causes traffic jams at the Gotthard tunnel portal. To prevent people from leaving the highway early, the Federal Roads Office FEDRO has set up a preferential lane between Quinto and Airolo, thus making access to Airolo and the Gotthard and Nufenen Passes easier.
The CUPRA project involves bypassing the Stalvedro service area to avoid crossing traffic flows to and from the service area. It is scheduled to be commissioned in summer 2026. In the meantime, to temporarily relieve the villages of parasitic traffic, from July to October, the CUPRA is open from the Quinto exit to the Airolo exit on Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00 to 21:00, providing access to the Passes without being stuck in traffic jams.
