Tetris (Game Boy) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

  • A playthrough of Nintendo's 1989 puzzle game for the Nintendo Game Boy, Tetris.
This video shows both endings. First I play A-Type mode (endless, play until you lose game) and last until level 12. My score broke 100,000 so I got the rocket launch ending.
At 12:52, I play B-Type mode (get 25 lines on a board already partially filled) at Level 9, Height 5. Clearing 25 lines shows the space shuttle launch ending. You also can get this ending in A-Type if you clear a score of 200,000.
It really says something for Tetris when Nintendo gave it away as the pack-in title instead of Super Mario Land. It was a great move - the game is perfectly suited to the Game Boy in every way. Who would've though Bulletproof would've given Nintendo one of their all-time greatest hits?
Did anyone not love it? I got my Gameboy for Christmas when they were brand new, and Tetris had my attention way more than the other four games I got with it for the first few weeks, including Mario.
But really, what does anybody remember more about this game than its music? It's probably just as universally recognizable as the Mario theme song - not bad for a puzzle game.

It _was_ their flagship game that "sold" the Game Boy. I have a feeling they spent a large amount of time and money getting that game just right...the theme music alone sold the device and forever made a memory in not only myself but almost every child who grew up in the 90s.

I mean, tetris NES is like it, but most people who are into classic Tetris prefer NES. I think when you get used to any game, changing the frame data around will make it feel really off. It's more just what you're used to

This style of game is also just perfect for a compact handheld. A full Pokémon or Zelda adventure to take with you is great, but it's more commitment to play the game, you don't drop into and out of them on an instant like you can do with Tetris.
If smartphones started featuring a little foldout/slide-out gamepad as common feature, or one which you could attach, but which kept a slim and flat form factor (rather than those big ones where you basically clamp your phone on top of a full fledged console gamepad), I think games like these could get a lot of popularity again.
Kids are used to playing with touch screens, but these kinds of games just play better with buttons, and there's a lot of older people who played games in the past who would be far more inclined to play them on a phone if they could have normal buttons.

Can never recreate that OG feeling with any of the other versions. Anyone else tempted to just buy a Gameboy, and superglue the cartridge right into the slot? You all know you're not going to need anything else. The Gameboy was literally The Tetris Machine - and it still is. No other version of it satisfies; this version was the premium timeless classic, that people will still be playing in the ruins of the post apocalypse. They will be playing it on Mars. It is The Dream incarnate, a work of art, given life.

Imagine if Nintendo didn't get the exclusive rights, and that Atari Games version would up on the Lynx? Nice game dude its a mind game that you must plan ahead and not freak out when pieces move in faster. Iam planning to buy a gameboy from whoever has one just to play Tetris. Funny thing once you play fast you don't want play slow mode anymore.
