Moving the 596HP 408 Stroker - Open Headers - CUDA [Ric0000 Archive]

- After reading comments on last weeks walk around of the 1974 Plymouth Cuda, I decided to dig through the Ric0000 archives and find the original data file for when we made the promo years ago. I pieced this together quick, cut out the moving the camera around and left in what I had of the car running. I hope you enjoy!
There are too many mods to list here, but to give just a taste of what this car has for goodies: it is running a 408 stroker 360 engine, feed by a 850 Demon carburetor, INDY Heads and a fiberglass front end. This engine was put on the dyno a few years back and hit 596 hp at the crank.
I hope you all enjoy this video…Subscribe to see the next amazing project we take on!
Hint: That insane engine…..it’s staying with Joe……. Авто/Мото
Plymouth would still be in business if they brought back the Cuda, straight up BADASS SUPERCAR
That MOPAR RUMBLE sounds just like the opening to Van Halen's song: Hot for Teacher
The intro to hot for teacher is the firing of a cammed 409
I had read where it was Alex stringing together 4 bass drums, using double bass drumming for the effect. I’m not a drummer, so I don’t know. Always favored the guitar myself (Eddie).
@@stevenbackus2549 it’s Alex’s drumming. He recorded multiple tracks all at different tempos playing various random notes at random times. On another note, the very beginning of running with the devil is a whole bunch of car horns slowed down.
Mopar = Nocar
@@cbarbour5147 objectively wrong from everyone’s perspective
That's the LOUDEST riding lawnmower I've ever heard.... but it doesn't cut the grass... it just scares it into being short again :)
The Great Bamboozler right, I saw a Ford and someone scraped the door. I saw Budweiser under the paint.
Lol
That's good.
What does that even mean?
Okay this is a gold comment lol
1:20 "Honey... I swept out the garage."
I could not give a crap how long it took to load onto the trailer.I could listen to that sound all day.
That pluck should be apart of a symphony.
Music to my ears.
Amen, brother
Hell yeah....sounds BAD @$$!
@Cody Sonnet Or as well mannered as an Australian ,that does not give a crap ,commenting on the sound of an American hot Rod......Did i mention i could listen to that shit all day?
Just watched this through my 1050 watt Pioneer Elite Home Theater with a 15" 250 watt Velodyne Sub and Infinity Kappa 7.1's OMG It was Glorious!

God, I love that sound! Beautiful, awesome Mopar! The car looks great. What a treasure to own.
Would love to own one of these, Wow!!
That beast sounds absolutely BRUTAL! Love the sound of a pure motor...
GOOD OL CHEVY BOY HERE SAYING TO YOU MOPAR BOYS THAT THANG SOUNDS AMAZING NOTHING LIKE AMERICAN MUSCLE GOOD LAWD!!!!
Thank you, Much respect to you!
Yep I'm a Chevy man but that solid roller sounds amazing hp is hp. Props on a bad ass car
Got to say it's a beautiful car too bad it takes 3 rookies three tries or 4 to get it on the trailer must not trailer it much
@D. Adams cause it can outwalk all the others
Im just kiddin, HP is HP :)
I'm a Chevy guy, but I love anything with a v8 and no exhaust 😂
There are 2 things wrong with this video 1. The car is not mine 2. The car is not mine.
Yep right on I want one too.
This looks like a 73. I had a 70 340 4-spd with 4.10 gear's back in the 80's when you could actually afford one. Mine had 48K miles on it and I only paid $1,500. for it. Wish I still had it!!
No, what's wrong with it is it's not MINE!
@Robert LaPointe Had a friend of mine back in the 80's with a 68 with a worked 383 single 4bbl.... For craps and giggles he and his Dad put 5.57:1 in it. He drove it around for 3 years, all because it was so much fun, Lots would pay him to fill it up and ride around in it. Long as you didn't get past 75mph the engine would take it...
@Robert LaPointe He really only went to school and to the mall on the weekends, so he just cruised it mainly. I was just BSing with ya. But it was a really fun car. The Oh SHIT factor was amazing from 0-70.
That Cam is flat nasty!!!😍
Love how crisp every exhaust pulse is... if that's what 10:1 sounds like on an open headers 360, I can't wait to hear mine at 11:1 when it's done! O.O
Ok, I got dust in my face all the way over here in Knoxville when that thing started. Beautiful car, Ive always loved that color
That engine idling makes my heart happy.

I've been a Ford fan all my life, but love the looks of a lot of the Chyrslers cars also! Love the color & body style! A friend of mine,RIP Charlie, bought a brand new, can't remember if it was a '70 or '71? Triple black 440 6pack 4speed cuda, man did he love that car! Later on he got married, bought a house. They eventually split up, I heard he got in financial problems & had to sell his beloved Cuda. Miss ya Charlie!💖

Ewww... Ford? My condolences.
Stunning piece of Mopar history, I keep coming back to this video, who doesn`t love the sound of this beast, just a dream car.
My first car was a 68 Dodge Charger it was built everytime i go through drive-thrus they would get mad at me because it would rattle the walls i loved it lol. Miss that old car
Must have been awesome! My first car is a 2008 Dodge Avenger i bought from my neighbor haha
What a beautiful sound, love it.
Thats what a hot rod is supposed to sound like, not the sound of a pissed off bumblebee rice burner.
That's good then because rice burners aren't supposed to sound like hot rods
Pepper Head a Honda type R is also insanely lame and made for little bitch boys with man buns.
Why would you even bring up a 4 banger in this video?. Stupid
Just think we had cars just like that when I was in High school back in 76 I had a 65 Stang that was in 4 mags in 1977.
@Pepper Head you do know he put the car at about 600hp; and the type R if I recall is barely at 300hp. Maybe it would win on the track but 1/4 mile this thing is going to eat; it's set up for that judging by the Hoosiers.
i not only heard it... i actually smelled it
Oh man, one of the best smells in the world
Who smelt it dealt it!
"Does it start?" What kind of dumb question is that?
Hear hear
SgtPnkks it’s funny, my dad had a ‘70 Cuda 440 six pack. I recently found out hates that smell. I love it! How could you not?
I could listen to open headers all day!
I had an 81 mustang with just a 302 and straight pipes right to the back and that even sounded nice
Open headers always sound the best with a radical engine.
My first car was a 1971 cuda with a 440. I paid $600 dollars for it because people could not afford the insurance or gas for it. They were selling dirt cheap in the 70s because of the gas crunch. What a fantastic introduction to driving.
I gotta say there is no more pleasurable experience than gettin an old muscle car to roar to life. My brother has now got my Dad's '65 Buick that I'll take our Dad out for a ride in on nice summer days and getting it to fire up is just like this vid. A couple time cranking and giving the throttle a few pumps and fucker roars to life (yes sometimes it takes 2 tries or 3). Not ungodly loud but that same "aaaaaaaaah" factor hearing it catch and fire away :) The 401 nailvalve had a bit of a "lumpy" cam from the factory and makes it all the more enjoyable getting to hear her warm up and let me know when she's ready to get goin. I sound like an old timer but I'm only 31. I rock around in an '07 Mustang GT but the thrill of driving waht is now my brother's car can't be matched by any. You get so much feedback from old cars that you don't from new ones and makes you feel even more in touch with them. I tell my Dad every time we go out I love driving that car and hate when it gets put away for the winter, because that means another 6 months or so of not being able to drive it LOL!
What a great sound, warms my heart!!! ☘️🤓
I love the question " is it loud" with a snicker.... because you know his neighbor are like WHAT THE HELL IS THAT
Its a punched out small block. You think thats loud? listen to 454 ls6 chevy nova with open headers once
The neighbors dog squatted and pissed on the kitchen floor when that was fired up
If I ever seen that in real life I'd probably cry.... That has to be one of my favorite Mopars from the muscle car era. Probably going from 66-72 would be my favorites but some of the "gas guzzler upgrades" like the all aluminum 'Spirit of 76' Challenger is a super unique car and I really like it... A friend had one and I feel in love w/ how weird it was and it still looked good. ❤️🖤
'70's Cudas, Most Bad Ass cars EVER!!!
that should be done at 2 am.... so the neighbors appreciate it leaving....
HA HA yea Id be like get that POS out of here
I wouldn’t mind that at 2am
@@ericfulmer8180 Me either. Working the night shift! :)
I had neighbors that lived downstairs from me when I was in the Air Force that would be partying loudly at 3:00 in the morning when I got home from the track. Laying my Pioneer 88s face down and blasting Led Zeppelin worked for awhile. When it stopped working I'd wait until a half-hour or so after they were done partying, then take the car off the trailer. Their bedroom was right next to my parking stall. THAT worked.
I had neighbor that liked to snowblow his driveway at 4:30-5:00am back when I worked 3:30-midnights at the post office. Sadly, my built 360 Duster was put away for the winter, but I DID have my Polaris XCR 800 with triple stingers that suddenly needed to be rode when I got home from work.
Took my kids years ago to visit family in Chicago...They have cigarette boat races in Lake Michigan every summer. Was walking along the Naval Pier and a cigarette boat was sitting there idling and the sound was echoing off the pier walls...and it sounded exactly like this.To many of the visitors and tourists i'm sure they thought it was irritating noise but for me it was music ! ! ! Oh and there was a Coast Guard boat sitting at the end of the pier to keep the wild animal in check !
i keep coming back to this video every once in a while I never tire of that sound.
Always has been my favorite car. Love the Plum Crazy and Sassy Green!
the right way to say good morning to the neighbors
Oh god!!!! This is what you call a dream car! Sounds like heaven
Music to my ears
there is nothing like the feeling you get a big muscle car driven on the street with open headers. natural aspirated no NOS no turbo no fuel injection and 500 hp to the wheels. if it breaks down you don't take it back to dad or the dealer you build it so you know what to do and what is wrong and you fix it on the spot. your hands will never be clean and your clothing will all have grease stains. im glad i live those days.
Sounds like a nice 13:1 roller motor!! I love it!
Absolute music to my ears. Love that cracklin' sound of headers, capped or uncorked. Just loverly. I had a '70 Javelin with the 390 that I built a bit. That was an era nobody will ever forget. Loved the Nash Bridges '71 Hemi Cuda convertible, but it sure didn't sound like this one.
Just had an eargasm!!! I turned the volume waaayyyyy up and loved it!!
Nothing like the sound of a stroked motor, esp the idle and quick spoolup....JUST GAVE ME LIL CHUBBA😎
My uncle drank a gallon of varnish....he had a horrible death but a lovely finish!
Nice car
OMG, you damn lucky dog-that mopar is a work of art. Very impressive sound, the cam must be a solid lift-if not then pretty close to that. Enjoy it bro, you don't see them often or at least often enough.
Sounds good once it started. Man clean that garage out. Cars so close together. I just spent about $6500 putting a foundation and a nice new shed structure so I could clean my garage out of everything except for the cars, two tool boxes , and the compressor.
I never get tired of that sound.
Nothing like the sound of a old built Mopar. I had several, the baddest being a '70 440 Cuda.
Man that thing sounds filthy!!! Thanks for posting. I hope my big block Holden sounds half that good when I get it done. All the best from downunder.
GOD BLESS YOU IN OZ...!!!
Did it end up sounding like that? (update)
"does it start?" Sigh. Same kind of person who slams the hell out of the car door because it's "old".

Dam! I need a smoke after that! Awesome build! 👍
So I come to my defense about this loading procedure..... The car was mine, I sometimes have issues with the trailer ramps. Check out the driver side of the car. See the damage? The ramp slipped out on my OLD trailer and the car fell. So my overly cautious attempt to load this car onto my NEW trailer is the reason for the abnormalities.
Also, to note the car has a spool rear end. So it doesn’t exactly turn on a dime and make for quick adjustments onto a trailer.
Thanks to all who have watched, commented and subscribed. I take the criticism with a grain of salt, due to the fact nobody but Ric and I were there. And yes Ric is not a good assistant for loading a car, add to it the open headers and communication is near impossible with the car running..
Don't let these idiot commenters bother you.If I was fortunate enough to own this beautiful machine I would be hella-careful too!
Always going to be some kinda whining involved on matter what you do🤣
The lift on that Cam has to be 700+!! Awesome!
Love it. Motor specs?
What’s your cr
I was wondering if that car would’ve made it past the rails without peeling off so hard. Yup what a beauty
That is the only way to blow leaves from the garage. Love the mopar.
I used to have a 1976 Dodge Power Wagon. @1:15 you can never mistake the sound of an older Dodge starter. Love it ! Awesome car too!:)
That's not a Chrysler starter. That's an aftermarket high torque gear reduction starter. It sounds no different than the starter on my 408 big block Chevy.
This sounds authentic thru my 4500Watt P.A. 😁
That makes me depressed I had so many cudas now they're in the hands of people that can't drive them 1970 Cuda best looking car ever made
Mark Remillard That wasn’t a 70
The one in the video is a 73 or 74 because it has the round tail lights and external side lights not molded into the body like the 70-71 were. Personally I like the 71 best because it has the best grill of them all and four headlights. It also has the "gilled" front fenders. I am proud enough to not only own one myself - but can say I built it myself from a basket case I bought for a song in 1997. I will never sell it.
In the smooth appreciative words of Clint Eastwood in the movie Gran Torino as he looks at his beauty in the driveway, "Ain't She Sweet"...
Nothing like an original and that Cuda is beautiful. It was bred to race and to just give a great experience to drive and have fun in. The newer MOPAR muscle is nice...but not THAT nice.
Takes me back to the days of pumping the gas pedal or priming the carb and letting it warm up so it didn't stall, especially in the winter months here in the north east. You had to patient and take the time to warm it up so it could get you where you needed to go. Now technology has advanced so we can get in, start up and go a few minutes later, yet no one has anytime to spare and society is in such a big impatient hurry as of late, go figure. Who could have thought that these beautiful vehicles that were dependable, economical, and excuse my politically correct terms, esthetically pleasing and user friendly (we could work on them and fix them!) V-8's would be a bygone engine to be replaced finally by electric motors in cookie cut appearance vehicles. American muscle was for looks for sound and for going fast!
Btw, why would someone in their right mind care if it's loud? (:31)
No other words but Beautiful! Awesome.
Who has this sound track? I have a 91 chevy 350 short bed with flowmasters. But I would play this music loud thinking it's me rumbling
In 1970 (when I was 14!) my oldest brother (RIP Tommy) bought a brand new Gran Coupe. The GC was only built in 1970...334 units. Black on Black with a 335hp 383c.i. 4bbl with the iconic Hurst pistol grip shifter and 3.35 Dana 60 rearend. I learned to drive stick on the car! In '73 it dropped a valve and sent a rod thru the block. We got a 383 out of a Chrysler Newport ( not the same HP tho) and my best friend and I did the swap. He was going to sell the car to me for $1,000.00 ( I was then 17y.o.) but MOM said NO!! "It is too FAST for you!! :-(" I think he paid $4,800 new for it. I see them now on fleabay for almost 100k! I would have still had that car today..with a "proper" engine in it!
70 Grand coupe....Barricuda....not 'Cuda...2 different fish...and the Dana 60 only came in 440 6pac. and HEMI 4sp cars and only in 3:54 3:91 n 4:10 ratio, but you could special order a Dana 60...The 383mag. 335hp was a Road runner Super Bee engine, the Grand Coupe was more of a business man's Barricuda with a/c power windows and that kind of stuff...alot of fishy in your story...383 mag. drop a valve at 3 yrs old? the last 'Cuda i seen sell for 100k was a HEMI with all matching vin#s ,but anything is possible in those days when you bought a MOPAR you took what was on the lot or filled out special order card and what you checked off you could get ,at extra cost then your car was assembled and the dealer called when it was ready for you to pick up.....just say'in...But some guys Live, breath, eat, sleep,MOPAR it's our life blood....MOPAR OR NO CAR....My brain is just Directley Connected that way...lol... beep beep.
I actually started to fall asleep waiting for the car to be loaded onto the trailer.... GREAT video..
There is nothing that sounds greater than a built v8 on open headers . God makes my skin crawl

God damn I bet the neighbors just love you!!!
Regardless of all the criticsm.. the car is sweet!! Hope it gives you the enjoyment one gets when riding her around. Just not sure where it would be for a genuine ride. I used to have a 95 GT and I had my exhaust cut. I would drive thru the tunnels in Boston during the summer and I would have a blast listening to the sound echo off the walls. I would be in 2nd gear all the way. Those were the days!! I had her for 20 years. I had to get rid of it. 😢 Sad day..

The beautiful thing about old muscle cars like this, is that you don’t go and just start them. You have to gently wake them up. Awaken the beast
I had a 400 small block Chev that sounded just like that!!!! Sounded even better at 8500 rpm with open headers!!!!!!
brought back memories of the sound my brothers 1969 Road Runner with 1200 HP made he pulled a wheelie one day lady DWI t-boned him and totaled it
I have to say, coaxing these old cars to start is a fucking orgasmic experience. My Dad's (now my brothers) '65 Riv is the same experience. Pump the gas pedal a few times crank her and try to get her to life. No-go, pump a couple more times and fucker roars to life. It's something so many people miss now and I'm thankful to get to experience this when I fire that car up. She's nothing fast or insane, just the standard 401CI nailvalve Buick threw in them, but damn....to feel her idling sends shivers up my spine.
Looks like he needs someone to drive it on for him fod
He is being careful . Get in a hurry with that much power could cost you
Chad... name and cutzie drawing sort-a says it all. "Hell, I would have done a burn-out and hit the trailer at 90MPH if it was me" If you had the kind of time and money he has invested in that car (yeah right), you might be just a little careful, too.
This is my ASMR.

You must really have that motor dailed in. I hAve 84 Grand Prix with a 383 and a bigger hydraulic flat tappet cam. I have to let it warm up before I put it in gear or it'll stall. For you guys to put it on a trailer like that it must really be tuned in right. I should also say it sounds amazing
