@@ericleszkowicz898 right?! They marketed the vid specs so hard and I constantly saw in forums "what about stills specs". Had they not hyped up all this vid stuff there wouldn't be this overheat apocalypse.
I've been waiting for someone to have an indepth review for stills. Everyone else is so focused on video they forget to give an indepth review on the photo side
@Bao Nguyen and it's been frustrating! I get that talking about overheating gets clicks but sheesh, some folks just want to know about what the camera is really good at! And stills is something it's amazing at.
Nice review. Many of your conclusions, so far, match mine. I don’t have an R, though, but I do have a 5DM4. I am a wildlife tog, though, so no dummies for me. I have been out in high heat and high humidity and no problems at all. I bought home 2900+ shots the other day and had plenty of battery left (I have the grip too). I did notice that if you don’t use either an N or and NH battery that your FPS will drop by a noticeable amount, though the camera still works. The place where the 45 vs 30 MP matters is when cropping. You probably never need to crop, so 30 makes sense and you don’t see a difference. For me, even though I have a 500 mm lens, I always need to crop because wildlife is not posing to me, it’s trying to get away. So that extra 15MP counts! Also, the improved ISO performance of the R5 over the R/5DM4 is more noticeable when cropping. If you take a pic with bright background and dark areas too, then you have a high dynamic range scene. On the R5, you can pull down the highlights and pull up the shadows to reveal greater details than possible on the other two bodies, so it is a net plus. As you said, the AF is otherworldly. The R5 can grab the the eye of critters that are so far away fro.pm me that I can’t see the eye in the VF, let alone try to focus on it. With the 5D!4, you’d have to put a focus point on that eye, but you cannot do that if you can’t even see it. The R5 can see what you can’t see and it grabs it rather than making you go hunt for it. Fabulous! Anyway, thanks for the detailed review. Will be looking to see more.
@Anthony Martin the ability to crop is one of the main reasons I went with the R5. I shoot a lot of headshots and I usually shoot wide on set and crop to provide the final framing before delivery. A lot of times, I'm contractually required to deliver a certain amount of megapixels so having 45 to play with allows me to crop where needed and still provide more than enough resolution to my clients. 30 has been good, 45 will be much better. I hadn't thought about the FPS performance when using a regular LP-E6 battery. I'm going to try that out later for the hell of it. :-) I'll for sure be doing a lot more vids on IQ and DR.
Return To Home Yes, I have the 90D is my kit. I love that 32MP sensors on my long lenses. It is one of my DSLRs that will remain in my kit after my sell of after the R5.
Yes! Finally, a thorough review of the R5 for stills. I've sat through several review videos focused video, so I was glad to find yours. I am strongly considering the R5 and am grateful for your insight.
@Fernando Ortega it really is an amazing camera...but...I think a lot of it depends on your use case. I really wanted to transition to mirrorless but the AF performance of the R paired with the single card slot kept me from making that transition professionally. With the R5, it checks all the boxes for what I need out of a mirrorless camera. I personally think the R5 is worthwhile addition to anyone's kit...but that addition comes at a cost. :-)
Anthony Toglife I agree with you. I was one of the first people to get it early before the release. It’s been a monster on both my model shoots and product shoots. The speed to focus is amazing. I recently picked up the RF 70-200, RF 85 and picking up the RF 28-70 in the morning. The 85 is my favorite so far on the R5. I also have come from the R and this feel like a leap forward.
@pianofinger I haven't yet figured out which RF glass I want to pick up but I'll definitely be getting some soon! Thankfully EF glass performs well on these R bodies.
Anthony Toglife very true. I just started getting my RF lenses in the last two weeks. Hopefully my 28-70 finally gets here today. But so far my favorite of the 3 I bought had been the 85. Good Lawd
@Danny Ning there's nothing better than watching vids about something you'll have in your hands at some point! Hopefully this video got you even more excited for your R5!
Thanks for this photo focused review! I’m 3-4 days now with the R5, and have shot with the R since it came out. I’m also a longtime canon shooter (D30, D60, 10D, 20D, 5D, 5Dii, 5Diii, 5DSR, R, and now R5). I’m shooting on RF glass mostly. I agree both sensors are good. Th R5 just has more pixels at similar sharpness. It’s not quite as sharp as the 5DSR but close. But the RF lenses are sharper. As you note the higher ISO is a lot better though. It’s useable up to 12.5k and there is a lot less weird color banding at higher iso or in pulling up dark areas in RAW (also using the DNG converter, but it shouldn’t charge anything. LR converts raws into dng internally anyway). I love the R5 so far for photos (I only do casual video, but it did shoot a 20 min 4K HQ for me no prob). The IBIS on the unstabilized RF lenses like the 1.2 lenses is crazy good too. They knew it was coming and must have given those lenses an extra large image circle through that large rear element. Battery life definitely seems less than the R, but that makes sense as it’s pushing a lot more data and the screens are higher res. And batteries are cheap, not a huge deal to have 2 extras in the bag. You are correct that the lens switch turns off both stabilizers. Mine also felt hot on the back after the 20 min HQ shoot :-)
Andrew Gavin thank you for the info on the stabilizers. I shot about 800 jpeg pics today over multiple shoots and my battery is still at 3/4. Too tired of converting the files. It takes too long. Have a great time shooting
@Andrew Gavin my man, thanks for the thorough comment! I haven't decided which RF lenses I wanna pick up but I'll definitely be getting some shortly. I also agree I do think the R5 will end up having an edge on IQ and DR over the R, I just need to do better testing. It's been a little tough because the sessions I've been using the R5 on have been real sessions so I haven't had the luxury of shooting everything twice with the two cams lol.
Anthony Toglife I’m guessing from your review (I will check out other videos on your channel when I get a few min) that you do a lot of portraits so I would think the 85 1.2L would be the number one. 😃
@Andrew Gavin I primarily do portraiture...butttttt...the past 6 months or so I've been moving away from the "traditional" 85mm wide open type portraits. I've been using a 35mm a lot and more around f/2.8 - f/4 to not have the blown out look all the time. I'm sure that lens is amazing though. I think I will inevitably pick it up. I mean, an 85mm is an absolute necessity. ;-)
Thank you for taking the time to make and share this. Excellent review and information. So glad there are photographers still out there who are not focused on taking video shoots.
@Phil Whyte and the day I become focused on videos, I'll definitely buy a camera that is great at shooting videos! This hybrid camera thing sounds great, but usually when you merge two tools into one, there's compromises. The world these days seem to expect perfection without compromise. Anyway, thanks for watching sir, I appreciate you.
Thanks Anthony, for what I think is an excellent video and very well explained on the Canon EOS R & R5, and will be looking out for more of your wonderful videos in the future.
Thank you for this comparison and review. BIG thank you for taking the time to break out your timeline to all quick scrolling to areas of interest, so appreciated.
@Anon Namous you're welcome! I'm all about making it easy for my viewers and who wants to sit through a 40 minute video when all they want to know about is one thing?! I appreciate you watching.
Thank you Anthony, I agree with many of your viewers, finally looking at this from a still perpesctive. I have an R and just upgraded to the R5 and I couldn’t agree more with you. Thank you, you have a new viewer.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Finally someone focusing on the photography side of this camera. Your review was one of the best camera reviews I've ever watched and believe me, I've watched a lot. Thank you also for discussing the EVF lag in the R and the lack of it in the R5. I had looked at buying the R some time ago, but noticed the lag and it drove me nuts. Based on your review I will definitely be buying an R5. Thank you again for your amazing review.
@Scott Haywood this comment right here is why I make RUclips videos! I don't care about views and subs and sponsorships, I just want to give back to the photography community and help others. Thank you so much for making my morning, I very much appreciate your words.
@@AnthonyToglife If views, subs and sponsorships are based on the quality of the RUclips channel, your channel deserves to be up there with the most popular. The R5 video was the first one I watched of yours and I've since watched a few more. The ones I've seen have all been great and very helpful. Regarding the 8K video of the R5, your point about the R5 being primarily a stills camera is consistent with the limitations of the 8K recording. The 8K recording is an amazing option for photographers, because it allows them to shoot high speed video (in short bursts at much higher rates than 20 frames a second) and then choose a 36 megapixel still of the perfect frame (a frame that they may not have caught shooting at 12 or 20 frames per second). I don't think Canon ever intended it to be used to make a full length movie. This seems to have been missed in the marketing and the review videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the review. I have an R and wanted to see the difference with the R5. I do mostly stills and really don’t use video that often. The improved auto-focus and ibis would be the primary reasons to upgrade, plus the ability to shoot more than 5 FPS. You did great Anthony! I finally watched a review that speaks to the R/R5 differences. That will make deciding to upgrade easier. Can’t find the R5 for sale anywhere right now so I have time to decide. I am subscribing to your channel because I like your presentation! Awesome!
@Tony Derrenberger you would NOT be disappointed upgrading to the R5! Of course everyone's situation is different but to me, the upgrade is absolutely worth it, even at the relatively steep pricetag. I actually contemplated canceling my preorder because, although I don't shoot video, I was questioning if the pricetag for effectively just a stills camera was worth it. When I took into account the price of the 1DX3, I quickly realized even if the camera was slightly marked up for video features that I wouldn't really use, it was still a worthy upgrade. I'll be doing more R5 vids over the next couple of weeks so hopefully they'll help you better decide if you want to upgrade.
Simply a thorough, honest and informative review. One of the best reviews I have ever seen. Beautifully done. You are to be commended! Thanks for your effort.
Anthony, Thanks for the review of the R5 comparison to the R. I am in the process of upgrading from the R to the R5 and FINALLY a honest review of the cameras used for still photography. Your review has been very reassuring that I made the correct decision. Up till now everything I have seen is a review for video. I look forward to more reviews from you on the R5. You will be my go to guy for R5 reviews. Thanks again.
Beautiful. Thankyou I am a stills shooter with a collection of EF glass. I have been waiting for someone to comment on the EF performance through the adapter. Re the EVF, opinion I've seen indicates there isn't expected to be a material discernable difference between the R5 and the Sony's 9M dots. Thanks for the comment on the UHS-I card and needing to update to the II. The darker output from the R5 is an interesting/unexpected observation. Gordon Laing and Tony Northrup were able to demonstrate, in their pixel peeping, superior quality in the R5 over the R from a resolving and dynamic range perspectives. Gordon Laing was able to obtain around 5 to 6 stops improvement from the IBIS with a EF IS and non-IS lens (which Chris Nichols also quoted using the EF 70-200 IS L II). Gordon could not get the 8 stops. In turning IS off, I sometimes need it off when the camera is mounted on a tripod, eg. when shooting astro. I'm wondering with the heating up of the camera, even when shooting stills, if the sensor will develop hot and dead pixels over time. Thanks for posting.
@J.A Danga I'm definitely going to do more IQ and DR testing. In all the images thus far I'm not seeing a huge difference but I also don't think studio-type testing is the best gauge for IQ and DR. I've done a few photo shoots with the R5 but I didn't use the R simultaneously to compare images. Either way, the IQ with the R5 has been impressive. I try not to get too hung up on comparisons and pixel-peeping because I feel it never ends, but I will upload another video soon with better observations. I appreciate your thorough comment.
R5 has 1.2 stops better dynamic range, and thats true...you can download dpreview studio scene raws and compare them yourself...also Photonstophotos has already measured R5 and you can check yourself.I did not excect that...but it has also more dynamic range even than Nikon d850 and Sony a7r4...great sensor canon has made !
@Losfame-studio I tend not to get tunnel vision on all these "tests" that are done on sensors. I prefer to look at real world examples because they often tell a slightly different story. I rarely have to push and pull my images so having a vast amount of DR isn't overly important to me but I'm also a fan of having more than I usually need for the rare occasions when I actually need it. :-)
@@AnthonyToglife I have tested R5 and a7r4 and d850,i have downloaded raw files from Dpreview studio scene, and i can tell you 100% R5 has amazing DR...and this raw files are real world, not only numbers and statistics.
Thank you for doing this! I also primarily/only shoot stills and not video. You answered a lot of my questions. I’ve got an R6 on pre-order, I know you’re talking R5, but a lot of that will carry-over into the R6. I would be curious about noise when pulling up exposures in post. E.g. shoot 2-3 stops below correct exposure and pull them back in post and see how much noise gets introduced in the shadows vs the R. I’m not usually off by that much, but stuff happens in the field. Great job!
@Vance Strickland I have a lot more tests planned and will be uploading a few vids in the next couple of weeks. I've been a bit busy as of late and I'm not one to just rush a video for the sake of uploading something. Stay tuned, and thank you very much.
I am not even a Canon user and I think Canon is getting a raw deal, the R5 looks like an amazing camera. I just finished watching a Gerald Undone vid and he said if you shoot the lower uncropped video mode, which looks better than the eosr, it WONT overheat and you still have an amazing photo camera, give Canon some time to work out the kinks, it will be fine
@Longrider my biggest gripe is that I feel like most people complaining didn't have any intent to shoot in 8K anyway, people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. I mean seriously, who REALLY needs to record an interview in 8K for an hour?! Storage alone makes that a silly decision.
I appreciate someone putting out the rare R5 stills video. I currently own and rp with a rf 24-105 f4L, and it is pretty dang awesome so far. I’m excited about the stills future of the canon mirrorless system and rf mount going forward. Video to me is just a nice gimmick add on at this time. Perhaps in the future I could get more into the video, but I love taking stills seeing how I progress over time.
@Gremlack13 I think I'll dabble in video at some point but for now, I'm like you, I LOVE taking/creating images. There's just something about looking at a captivating image that feeds my soul. I'm definitely a fan or mirrorless for the AF capabilities but I'm still not sold on the durability. 5D series cameras are tanks, I'm skeptical on if mirrorless cameras can be as dependable/indestructable.
Thanks for this review, Anthony! Last year I used an EOS R for shooting Union Pacific's incredible 4014 "Big Boy" steam locomotive from trackside. The R EVF's momentary retention of the last recorded image was problematic as I tried to maintain tight framing while zooming back. There was a BIG change in subject size when the EVF went from the frozen image back to live, and that cost me a few shots. If the R5 is a big step forward in EVF continuity and smoothness I would make the swap on that alone. Now, if only the 4014 would make a return engagement to SoCal!
@Ricardo Juliet I literally just did a test to respond to another comment and can confirm you wouldn't have that problem with the R5. There is only an extremely minimal blackout (and that was with the EVF set to 60FPS) but by minimal I mean you can tell it's there but for all practical purposes it has no impact on what you're doing.
Thanks! I really appreciate hearing a stills oriented review of this camera. And, it was useful to hear in comparison to the R. I look forward to your part 2.
@MrTiger2u more vids will definitely be coming. I've been a bit busy as of late and I'm not one to rush out a video just to get a video out. I should be uploading more over the next couple of weeks.
@AVIBEND exactly! We get it, there's overheating issues, but really how many more times does it need to be stated? What's worse, Sony users constantly posting videos about it. So lame to me.
At last THANK YOU!!!! 40 min video flew by. Brilliant review for us still photographers, I occasionally shoot a few seconds of video but only to pull stills from. Makes sense to me that turning off IS in the lens stops the IBIS as if you are one a tripod you don't really want any IS? Subscribed. Would love a video comparing the 1DXIII and R5 for stills, I am about to re-invest in a professional set up and have always shot DSLR after turning to digital (started at 14 years old and am now 53 so shot film obviously). Thanks again Anthony, keep up the great work. Gary.
@Gary Dainton I actually would love to do a comparison to a 1DX3 but I don't know anyone with one. My buddy has a 1DX2 but there was a sizeable upgrade between the 2 and 3 so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. They're not cheap to rent either so not sure I'd want to pony up my own money to rent one just to compare. I'll have to see what I can do.
@@AnthonyToglife Have looked at the 1DX2, that is what I had, I love the feel of a big DSLR and prefer optical viewfinders, Ill be spending around £12000 on gear so want to get it right. Something inside is telling me that mirrorless is the way to go though?? I would have to put the grip on it for sure.
@Andrew Flores you're welcome, and thank you! We need more stills videos!! Once people stop focusing on the overheating and start using the camera, many people are going to realize how amazing the R5 is!
@@AnthonyToglife - For me, it's the autofocus speed and accuracy; the tracking, especially eye-detect; the EVF (I'm a fan); the ergonomics, which includes the button placement; the customization of those buttons; the image quality is superb, and there have been some tests out there (including this one: www.photonstophotos.net) that show how much better the dynamic range is, up there with the Sony's, etc; the low-light and high ISO performance; and just the over-all feel of shooting with it. :)
Nice review man, you smash it👍thanks for your honest opinion. Would definitely want to see same comparison with the R6 if you happen to get one. Thanks again.
@Gafoor Dilmohamed if I can get my hands on one you best believe I'll be doing a review of it. I think I have a couple of photographer friends who have preordered one so I'll do my best. :-)
@John Haldezos novel idea, right. :-) To be fair, Canon did bring this on themselves somewhat. Their entire marketing plan revolved around video and given that people are notorious for talking about the "Canon Cripple Hammer" I think they miscalculated their steps a bit with the R5 marketing. BUT, I definitely feel like people should be long past it by now. The camera overheats, we get it, NEXT! :-)
Man great video. You sealed the deal for me. Eye detection and focusing was my biggest reason for wanting an upgrade. Everyone on RUclips talking about video which I could care less about. I do event photography. In my mind I was hoping the new sensor (with stabilization) would help me in the dark scenarios. Being able to pull ambient light and richer colors. I don't know if it's just me, but have you noticed the ability to grab ambient lighting to be harder with these newer Canon cameras? Something has definitely changed. I used to be able to shoot at 1/40th along with rear curtain and get excellent ambient while keeping people sharp. Now I have to go damn near 1/20th and a high ISO just to get lighting to show up. At least with all these improvements I can go back to getting what I'm used to.
@Art Within I can't say I've experienced that but I don't really shoot in low-light conditions. Most of my shoots are studio or golden hour really, or I'm using flash. But you're going to love the R5! It really is a beast of a camera!!
Anthony, good job nice to see a review about taking photos vs all the videos. Wow real Temps using a good tool Flir, why didn't anyone else think of that vs just saying it is warm or hot. Real numbers!!
@Tom Sullivan thank you sir. I'm planning another vid just on Flir testing. I especially want to measure the CFexpress card since there's been a lot of reports of it being really hot. My interest is peeked.
@Richard Gifford that can be my middle name! :-) In all seriousness I'm tired of all the fluff in RUclips videos. I just want to provide content that's to the point.
Thanks so much Anthony. Great to finally have a stills perspective. Looks as if they’ve nailed the IBIS and autofocus so a big thumbs up to Canon. My own feeling is that the dynamic range is an area that Canon still struggle with relative to some other manufacturers so I’d like to see them push that area in the future. Thanks again!
@Graham Warrellow Photography Canon definitely got a lot of things right with this camera! I think their sensor technology is what holds them back from competing with other brands and until they're willing to take a drastically different direction with how their sensors are designed or the tech implemented in them, we'll likely continue to see them somewhat behind the competition. But in all honesty, how much does a large array of DR really impact your photographic day-to-day? Sure there are some images where it may be useful but for the most part isn't the intent to get things as correct as possible in camera?!
Anthony Toglife completely agree. I am nitpicking and only mention DR as the only other area that would make a difference to my own photography. Shooting outdoor weddings in harsh sunlight is very demanding so any improvement would be warmly welcomed. We are blessed with so many incredible cameras these days but overall the Canon system is hard to beat.
@Graham Warrellow Photography you know the core reason I stay with Canon? Their professional support. It seriously is industry leading and when you do photography as a profession, you simply can't beat the CPS program. But I agree, it's generally welcomed to have more of something you may not need than not enough of something you do need. I would completely agree shooting in harsh light definitely puts a camera's DR to the test!!
Great review. This is a must watch for people with Canon glass who are considering the move. Thank you so much. I think you covered every important topic for stills. I do wonder if the R5 detects lens IS from 3rd party lenses
Thanks for the photo heavy review, finally someone doing it. If/when you do another video, can you talk about the UX/UI? I use an R and find the UX crippled (can't assign everything to custom buttons; custom modes can't switch between A/T mode; no electronic shutter in low speed drive etc) etc
@bosiefoobar sure! Do me a favor (if you have and can spare me the time), comment in detail the things you didn't like with the R (where you felt crippled) and I'll touch on all of those things in relation to the R5.
@@AnthonyToglife This would be insanely useful! The first three are especially bad and also, sorry for a rather long list. I am wondering if I am weird or if other R users have those same issues. UX/UI problems I have with my R: - Cannot “turn on” AEB. You always have to jump into the menu and use the dial to set the EV range. - Switches between EVF and display if within 5cm of the EVF sensor. No way to adjust the sensitivity - You cannot put every function on a button, the available assignable functions are limited and look completely arbitrary. Most painful missing functions: - On/off AEB - On/off electronic shutter - Shortcut to ISO speed settings - Switching between b&w and other profiles - High resolution mode (if it ever comes) - Min Shtr Speed - On/Off Stabilizer - On/Off Peaking - No way to force display or EVF to be active, touching the EVF sensor switches automatically - There should be a way to assign a button to switch between AUTO/forced EVF/forced display, too. - Electronic shutter is not available in low speed drive - There is no way to adjust the sensitivity/speed of the AF point selection with the buttons (I guess now you wouldn’t use buttons but the joystick. Same question). - AEB not available with electronic shutter - No focus stacking - Pressing a custom assigned button triggers no menu. It would be great to see all the assigned buttons - Cannot change EV unless I ‘expose’. I never turn the camera off, I wish I could just pick up the cam and use the dial to adjust EV. Instead I need to half press the shutter first - Custom modes (C1-C3) are not separated from AV/TV. I wish I could use C1-C3 to set settings and then on top of that have the AV/TV selection - Adjusting the visible information on the display is limited. Why not allow the user to have any combination of elements (e.g. ISO + histogram or ISO+histogram+AF help) - No multiple continuous frames possible while using a genuine canon BT remote (in 2sec delay/remote mode) - No way to cancel an AEB sequence (no, turning off the camera is not a great option ;) - No way to cancel a long exposure - During long exposure, the remaining time is not shown anywhere - During the 2sec/10sec delay a red LED will blink the entire time. No option to turn it off - Cannot use different touch screen settings between battery grip and regular grip. I.e. I use top right corner for focusing with the regular grip and would LOVE to use bottom right when using the battery grip (I know. This is incredibly niche)

@@AnthonyToglife Anthony, this is amazing, thank you so much for coming through, and so quickly too. You killed my desire for the R5 and just saved me 4000 dollars. any chance i can invite to a beer or two? ;)
Thank you!! Many of us actually still take photos with our cameras and your review was well done and unbiased. While you confirmed my decision to preorder an R5 I only have one big regret now and that's not doing it the second it was available for preorder. I did not expect the R6 to have al the features of the R5 especially the same focusing system and IBIS so I took almost a week to decided but in the end as a landscape and wildlife guy the extra megapixels won me over. But now who knows how long before that little brown truck brings my new toy? Thanks again! You've gained another follower and subscriber!
@Dale Ranney, ya know, I can understand the hesitation in preordering. I knew from the time the R5 was gaining steam that I was going to preorder, but a big part of that was because I enjoyed shooting with my R but it wasn't quite adequate enough to make it into my professional kit. When the R5 was announced and details were released, it started checking all the boxes I needed to be able to finally implement mirrorless into my biz workflow. Given that I've shot with Canon for so long I know their cameras are reliable so if nothing else I knew it would be a solid all-rounder and I figured worst case if I didn't like the R5 I could either return it or just sell it at MSRP, so it was a win-win in preordering day 1.
@@AnthonyToglife I should've done what you did and instantly pull the trigger on the R5 then just return it if needed. Now all the videos are coming out and I just wanna get my hands on one! LOL But at least I still have my R to play with and the new 800mm came this week so I'm curious to see how it performs although I'm sure the autofocus will be improved on either the R5 or R6. Take care and have a great weekend!
Thanks a lot for this nice review. It seems to me, that our workflow/our requirements are nearly the same and so it's very interesting to watch your experience about the R5. At this time, it's a little bit difficult to get the camera here in germany and so I have still wait to upgrade my R. But your video increases the anticipation!
@Dietrich Heise as hard as it is to wait, it's nice too! It gives you the opportunity to watch videos like mine to better decide if you want the camera or not. I took the gamble because I don't care much about the video piece and I know Canon equipment is reliable, but if I ended up not getting mine in the first round of shipments, I wouldn't have been too hurt about it.
Considering the price point, if you are new to photography, or just a person who is into stills ONLY, the EOS R is fantastic. 1. It's going down in price in a few weeks/months and at maybe $1599 or $1499 if it goes that low (from current $1799), it's a bargain, saves you money and you can introduce RF glass into your kit. And that price for R body... it's a saving grace in saving for RF glass. 2. r5 seems amazing, and. a upgrade... but again, if you are a travel person, one who wants top notch quality images of family etc., the r5's price point is scary. The EOS R is the one for you. 3. The EOS R is a body you can rock with for several years still The release of the R5 to me accentuated the positives and amazing attributes of the EOS R. If you are a stills only person... the R6 doesn't cut it. If money is an issue... the R5 is too pricey. The the EOS is a steal. I can't wait for the price drop on the EOS R.
Anthony, what a great video, as people have said it's good to hear from a photographer who's using the R5 and R6 to take stills, you covered everything I wanted to hear about the bodies, well done mate.👍
Thanks Anthony for the thorough comments so far and making this from a photographer's perspective. Agree this has been overlooked compared with the video perspective. Excited to get my R5 and test it out with with the RF glass.
@John Vale I'm excited for you! I think you're going to love it! When the camera was first announced and I read the stills specs, I was skeptical. Didn't want to get my hopes up. I can say now this camera has exceeded my expectations! Obviously I need to run it through its paces but from what I've experienced thus far, it's a winner! What RF glass do you have?
@@AnthonyToglife Really encouraging that this has exceeded expectations for you. Like you I'm a Canon shooter and I've been holding out for this body since the 5D Mark III! I recently took the plunge and purchased the trinity of RF Zoom glass...15-35; 24-70 and 70-200mm... will be happy when I can do more than stare at the glass...
@@AnthonyToglife no R/RP...sounds backwards right? I wanted to hold out for the next gen mirrorless and so over the last month as the R5 actually looked like it would ship I went ahead and started purchasing the RF glass and a large CFExpress card... traded in all but 1 EF lens and my 5D III to help fund the switch over. Cannot wait for the R5 to arrive!
Very good, I thought it was just video bloggers now. Your comparison to the R is really very interesting, because the R has really come in an affordable range. For me, the R5 is first and foremost a photo camera with some interesting video specifications.
@Achim I definitely still love my R and will use it for personal work/projects for sure! The R5 is just better at everything BUT that's, IMO, a testament to how good the R5 is. DSLR and mirrorless cams will likely always be looked at as a stills camera in my eyes. If I ever get serious in video, I'll buy a camera where video is the focus.
I'd assume the difference in exposure is a blending of two things. First, some light lost through the adapter. Second, the ISO sensitivity on the R5 is likely pushed down (ISO 100 is likely 80'ish on the R and could be 60'ish on the R5) to enable some dynamic range improvements. When DXO puts out their findings we'll see.
@Mike Jackson I used the adapter on both cams so light loss would have been equivalent. I'm going to test the R and R5 with a 5D4 and compare images. I'm going to shoot natural light and take three sets of images, with each camera determining the "proper" exposure. We shall see.
Thank you for a really good photo review. Am leaning towards the R6 mostly for price reasons. Am getting old so I feel I need the IBIS now. In the old days I could hold my F1 film camera still for 1/4 second, but not anymore. I hope that is a single malt going down.
@John Ziarko I think the R6 is going to be a great camera at a great price! If the IBIS performs as well as the R5 (which I don't doubt that it will), it will make a BIG difference for you!!
Great review. Funnily enough, although all the press releases and Canonrumors stuff was slathering over video, on launch day I watched several of the videos Canon released and came away thinking about the incredible eye AF and frames per second. They did have a lot of Canon ambassadors talking up the stills capabilities and that got me really excited. I think RUclips reviewers make video so are always going to be video centric in their outlook but just go back to the launch materials and you’ll see photo shoots with models and with motorsports alongside the video promos and overall there seemed to be as much talking up the stills as the video. Problem is, when you have a headline like 8K internal, everything else gets left in the dust.
@Ade Brophy I didn't catch any of those vids. I'll have to search and find them. Granted I kinda glossed over all the release days vids because most were, as you mentioned, by ambassadors and I take their words with a serious grain of salt.
Thanks for doing a thorough review from a photographer's standpoint. I'm like you shooting only with EF glass and would be upgrading from an R so this review/comparison is very helpful.
@Cuttooth's Room I've had ZERO issues shooting with EF glass. I honestly haven't been overly pressed to buy RF glass. I know there will be some advantages and improvements in performance but the EF glass works more than sufficient for my needs.
@@AnthonyToglife I definitely agree. One of the best things I can now do is use the variable ND adapter with my 14mm L. In the past I wasnt able to do long exposures with that lens, now I can.
@@AnthonyToglife I primarily shoot land/seascapes. I live in Hawaii and that's always been my bread and butter but have shot most genres to some degree.
Hi Anthony. Nice take on it. Likewise I don't own any RF glass and get great results with my EosR but I think the RF glass will take it to a whole new level. The 28-70 would be a great lens to start with. Though expensive.
@Hugh Sweeney I think the 28-70 will be one of the first ones I pick up. Pricey, sure is, but everything I've read and seen on that lens, it seems like a masterpiece! And with the R5 having IBIS now, the lack of IS in the lens isn't much of an issue (not that it ever was to me, I've shot plenty of glass without IS with no real issues).
@@AnthonyToglife yeah, on that range you can get away without IS. It's a super lens and if you have that and the R5 you can be safe in the knowledge that you're images will be as good as any camera out there. Best of luck shooting with the R5.
Hello Anthony, at last someone is talking about stills photography. Everyone is hungry for information. I have ordered the new Canon R5 and do hope it shall be perfect for my landscape photography. I live in the UK. I also ordered a spare battery and was shocked to hear that this alone costs more than a £100 stg. and often wonder why are the batteries always so expensive? Thank you, for reviewing the Canon R5 ...
@Allan Davies most OEM accessories are expensive because that's where any brand makes most of their money. Think printers, printers are cheap because ink is overpriced. It's just the way it is. I always buy OEM; if I'm spending thousands on a camera, why cheap out and use third-party accessories that could either mess up my cam or not give me the performance I expect out of my gear. Anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy your R5. It's beast!
Inkognito you won’t be disappointed. I have only one missed shot out of 4 photo shoots so far. I had 3 shoots today and about 800 shots. 2 shoots outdoor and 1 indoors using the 70-200 rf and the 85 rf.
@JohnAllen Magee duly notes. For my style of shooting I'm not concerned about heat whatsoever. BUT, I do want to push the camera to understand its limits so if I'm in a situation where those limits need pushing, I know my boundaries. :-)
glad to hear the battery life with the old batteries, for stills, isnt horrendous. I just watched a video that was video focussed, and apparently for video, the battery isnt lasting as long as the R body. the reviewer had IBIS off as he was on a gimbal. so its just all the extra beef in the processor I guess?
@The Fift Eliot yeah I think that deep-learning AF comes at a cost to battery life, plus it's having to move the lens (focus) constantly as well. But I think under normal, real-world situations the battery will perform relatively well all things considered. The good thing is batteries are affordable and most folks already have a few LP-E6 batteries hanging around anyway.
@@AnthonyToglife ah, true... I wonder if he was using rf lenses? they look big compared tp ef. might be using more battery to move them. wonder if next gen will end up with totally new battery design...?
I still prefer the snapiness of my 5d3 for AF on central spot trough OVF, but for almost everything else, I'm very happy with the R (not 5), with only old EF L lenses. I almost never use the 5d nowadays unless, but rarely, I'm struggling with fast subject with AF on the R. So I presume you'd be very happy with the R5.
@Claudia Muir I have found the R and R5 and to work beautifully with EF glass! Canon really got it right with the adapter. That being said, I still prefer OVF's; I just can't seem to get on board with the synthetic feeling of an EVF, BUT, the AF performance is why I wanted to switch to mirrorless. I have spent SO many hours doing AFMA on my DSLR's and it's still a challenge to get it perfect, ESPECIALLY with my Sigma glass! When I picked up the R, that problem went away. I was able to use my Sigma glass in a completely different realm and that was refreshing. Although I still prefer a DSLR and I really question the true durability and longevity of mirrorless cameras, the AF makes it hard to pass up, especially being a portrait photographer.
all the adapted lenses ive seen in videos seem to work SUPER well with that canon adapter. I would say see if you can get to a local shop, and try some of your lenses with an adapter on the body! my bhphoto wishlist has an adapter and a 35 and 135 lens from EF in there. but im deep in sony land, so it'll stay a wish list for awhile, lol.
Thank you for the R5 honest review. I have the R (sine 2018), and my second camera body is a 5DIV. Since shooting with the R, i have not been using the 5DIV much at all. Once you get used to EVF, and the floppy screen, and the dynamic focus points, the 5DIV is more or less redundant. I am going to upgrade the 5DIV to the R5 as soon as poss, especially since i have already invested in RF glass (35mm ƒ/1.8 IS STM, 50mm ƒ/1.2L USM, and the super fantastic 24-70mm ƒ/2.8L IS USM). I hope to offload my EF 70-200mm ƒ/2.8L IS II USM together with 5DIV soonest. And i'm all in with the EOS R5. Thanks for your review, once again. And I've subbed, by the way :-)
@FemOdel Photography I still like/prefer DSLR's but I just can't ignore the much improved AF performance in mirrorless cameras. That's what peeked my interest back when I first used my buddies R, the AF tracking was just so much better than anything I could achieve with a DSLR. I'm just not fully sold on the durability/longevity of mirrorless cameras.
@Shea Deighan Wedding & Portrait Photographer thank you! I'm looking forward to doing my long term review in 6 mos and hope to be continuing the praise!
The moment Air Show season picks up again I will be using the R5 for that 100%(when I get the camera finally). And I think the high-speed passes the fighters do will be a great way to test the 20fps too
@Tim O'Brien I'm very intrigued to know how well it performs in that space. Definitely keep me posted. I've seen some other vids of high-speed action but no air shows yet.
Hey Anthony, i’m from Germany 👋 i Wanna say: Perhaps the Most authentic video on RUclips - & Really, i watch much RUclips Videos 😒 Keep going _ Great Job 👍🏼
@chris much appreciated! Thanks for commenting and supporting me. I try to be real, honest, and authentic on my channel. RUclips seems to lack this nowadays, sadly. Hopefully things are better in Germany than they are here in the States.
@Bassbarbie thanks much! Those are both times you generally would turn IS off in general, I tend to turn it off more regularly than most would probably.
@THE CUBAN CHEF how exciting! What glass are you getting? I don't have any RF glass but will be getting some soon, just need to decide what I want to get.
Hi Anthony, great video and I love your 'keep it real', natural relaxed style. Subscribed right away. 🙂 I downloaded some sample .CR3 files from the R5 and converted them to .DNG files and opened them in Capture One Pro. I opened the .CR3 files in Canon Digital Professional 4.12.60 and they were chalk and cheese. The images looked vastly superior in DPP. This may not be the case with Lightroom (the .DNG files might open better there) but I thought I'd mention it. As for how many images you get on a battery, CIPA ratings are insane and the manufacturer has to do things like shoot 50% of the images with flash, go into various menus X number of times, review images blah blah blah. You can usually double that number, at least. Also, when you shoot bursts you actually get significantly more images per charge. These cameras use power when they're on, whether shooting or not. The more you shoot, the more shots you get per charge. Enjoy your awesome new camera!
@cooloox thank you for mentioning DPP, I didn't even think to open them there but I most certainly will do so and see how things look. I would have to think the DNG files, even in LR, wouldn't look as good as the native RAW files, especially considering the DNG Converter is beta and I doubt Adobe has all the information they need to be able to truly convert it accurately.
Nice review of a photographic stills camera. Canon should have focused more of their marketing on the stills capability of the R5. After listening to Rudy Winston from Canon USA, I got the impression that the 8k video feature is good enough to down sample into 4k HQ video. So all that 8k video overheating hype is not necessary as camera is good enough if you understand the limitations.
@Stealt707 indeed, Canon goofed by focusing on 8K so much. Yes, the camera can indeed shoot 8K but when it can only practically do so under ideal conditions, it really shouldn't be your main marketing point. But, if you use it within its limitations, it is indeed a great thing.
Finally someone who uses a photo camera for photography!
@Martin Hirtreiter novel idea, right?! ;-) I've learned over the years, having the right tool for the job is key!
@@AnthonyToglife thats right! you gut a like for it. Greetings from Austria!
I know I was listening to Canon marketing and I wondered if it even took a picture 😀
@@ericleszkowicz898 right?! They marketed the vid specs so hard and I constantly saw in forums "what about stills specs". Had they not hyped up all this vid stuff there wouldn't be this overheat apocalypse.
Do you only use phones for phone calls ?

@The Eddiot Savant I'm humbled by your comment, thank you!
@@AnthonyToglife thank you for making this video. I'm still waiting for my pre-order to come. Can't wait!
Have you had hands on with the 90D i use it with the 70-200mm 2.8L III & 1.4TC III it may give you the reach you need in a budget body!.
Return To Home Yes, I have the 90D is my kit. I love that 32MP sensors on my long lenses. It is one of my DSLRs that will remain in my kit after my sell of after the R5.
Thanks for those insights based upon your ownership and use. I am leaning towards the R5 more and more.
Good Lawd
Loving this in-depth overview while I wait for my R5 to arrive. Great video!
Congrats on your purchase!
Damn
@Dennis Keith thank you so much! I have a lot of vids planned for the coming weeks. :-)
I appreciate that @KBS Adventures, thank you! Do you own any RF glass or only adapted?
Some nice insights in this review! Thanks for testing and sharing!
@Cinematic Productions you're most welcome! Thanks for watching.
Excellent review. Extra kudos for emphasizing the photography aspects.
@Xave thank you so much! More content is needed for us forgotten about photographers, lol.
@FC Jr I'm humbled by your comment, and I very much appreciate it. Thank you kindly!
@Eric Sundin I'm definitely planning a few more R5 vids within the next couple of weeks. Anything in particular you'd like to see?
Thoughtful review and a human and respectful behavior, was a pleasure to listen to you! Thanks for sharing your opinion and experience!
@Alexander Popov I very much appreciate your comment, thank you!
Excellent PHOTOGRAPHY review. Keep up the good work Bro.
@Racer88 much appreciated, thank you!
The intro had you taking photos and drinking whiskey...I'm in. Haha
Great to hear your experience so far with the camera.
@Kevin DiOssi two of my most favorite things, photography and whiskey! Welcome aboard. :-)

Good unbiased review - keep up the great work
@Mike Franks thank you so much!
Thanks man, I highly appreciated your straight-up honest review :)
@Henrik Bech much appreciated, I'm glad this video was helpful!
Storage alone makes that a silly decision.
they had over a year.
@@ShotByStyles to do what?
To get the R5 right
I appreciate someone putting out the rare R5 stills video.
A nice review about the things that matter most to us photographers. Well done.
@B R thank you so much! A breath of fresh air, yes?
Thanks for a photography based review.... was looking for it
@arun mathew you're most welcome sir!
Thank you for making this video. I’ve ordered this camera for stills photography. Most of the videos rehash the heating issue which is getting old.
@@garydainton6475 the grip is absolutely necessary for me!
Excellent review thanks! Great to see an in-depth stills review
@Andrew Flores you're welcome, and thank you! We need more stills videos!! Once people stop focusing on the overheating and start using the camera, many people are going to realize how amazing the R5 is!
Thanks for the honest and transparent review on the still photography perspective ... Greeting from Jakarta, Indonesia
@Gatot herlyianto greetings from sunny California (well, not so sunny due to fires). Thank you for watching. I'm glad it was helpful.
As a photographer I thank you good sir.
@Omar Gonzalez Photography you are most welcome sir. Good day to you.
A breath of fresh air! Thank you. 👍🤗
And I’m loving the R5.
@Doren Sorell what would you say you love the most about it thus far?
@@AnthonyToglife - For me, it's the autofocus speed and accuracy; the tracking, especially eye-detect; the EVF (I'm a fan); the ergonomics, which includes the button placement; the customization of those buttons; the image quality is superb, and there have been some tests out there (including this one: www.photonstophotos.net) that show how much better the dynamic range is, up there with the Sony's, etc; the low-light and high ISO performance; and just the over-all feel of shooting with it. :)
I enjoyed this. It was a sincere talk about the differences between these two cameras.
@Dillan K thank you!
Great Video dude!!!! I really liked to find an actual photographer that uses the r5
@Luca Gmzz thank you thank you! More vids will be coming over the next couple of weeks.
I really enjoyed that - many thanks for your honest and objective review. Greetings from Wales :-)
@Emyr Evans greetings! Thank you much!
Great user-review I got mine couple of days ago but haven't had time shooting with it yet. I'm mostly still shooter as well, keep it up :)
@Simon Hamelius wait, so you have the R5 and you haven't shot with it yet?!?? Howwwwww?!!!? ;-)
@@AnthonyToglife Yes that's correct 🙈, family and post-production have taken all my time since I bought it! Am I mad? Yes..
@Simon Hamelius to be fair mine did sit in the FedEx box for 8 hours before I touched it, so I get it. :-)
Thank you for talking about photography!!! So much about the video but need photo info. Appreciate your assessment!
@Sandra Kowaleski you're most welcome!
Hi Anthony! Thank you for your video!! Yes, if you can, I hope you can shoot a video for the r6 too! Greetings!
@Alfonso La Monica I'm hoping to get my hands on one and will most certainly do a vid on it.
Actually a photographer talking about Canon R5 as a photography camera for what it's really designed for 🤣🤣🤣
@John Haldezos novel idea, right. :-)
It's designed as a hybrid camera to do video also. Even my 5dmk4 is a hybrid shooter and does the job of both
Man great video.
Great to see a proper, no nonsense review 👍
Oh we litty today! We got a winner here. Well done!
@Photo-Me-Ike maaan I'm just tryin' to get on your level! I'm taking notes. :-)
Welldon thanks four your in-depth review about time someone did a good review on the stills side like I am a stills man

@J B thank you! I'm planning to record a follow-up video real soon now that I've had over a month to shoot with the R5.
Great review. This is a must watch for people with Canon glass who are considering the move. Thank you so much. I think you covered every important topic for stills. I do wonder if the R5 detects lens IS from 3rd party lenses
@geoffrey enriquez the R5 does indeed detect 3rd party IS. I appreciate your kind words.
Very good and detailed review. Nice job!

UX/UI problems I have with my R:
- Cannot “turn on” AEB. You always have to jump into the menu and use the dial to set the EV range.
- Switches between EVF and display if within 5cm of the EVF sensor. No way to adjust the sensitivity
- You cannot put every function on a button, the available assignable functions are limited and look completely arbitrary. Most painful missing functions:
- On/off AEB
- On/off electronic shutter
- Shortcut to ISO speed settings
- Switching between b&w and other profiles
- High resolution mode (if it ever comes)
- Min Shtr Speed
- On/Off Stabilizer
- On/Off Peaking
- No way to force display or EVF to be active, touching the EVF sensor switches automatically
- There should be a way to assign a button to switch between AUTO/forced EVF/forced display, too.
- Electronic shutter is not available in low speed drive
- There is no way to adjust the sensitivity/speed of the AF point selection with the buttons (I guess now you wouldn’t use buttons but the joystick. Same question).
- AEB not available with electronic shutter
- No focus stacking
- Pressing a custom assigned button triggers no menu. It would be great to see all the assigned buttons
- Cannot change EV unless I ‘expose’. I never turn the camera off, I wish I could just pick up the cam and use the dial to adjust EV. Instead I need to half press the shutter first
- Custom modes (C1-C3) are not separated from AV/TV. I wish I could use C1-C3 to set settings and then on top of that have the AV/TV selection
- Adjusting the visible information on the display is limited. Why not allow the user to have any combination of elements (e.g. ISO + histogram or ISO+histogram+AF help)
- No multiple continuous frames possible while using a genuine canon BT remote (in 2sec delay/remote mode)
- No way to cancel an AEB sequence (no, turning off the camera is not a great option ;)
- No way to cancel a long exposure
- During long exposure, the remaining time is not shown anywhere
- During the 2sec/10sec delay a red LED will blink the entire time. No option to turn it off
- Cannot use different touch screen settings between battery grip and regular grip. I.e. I use top right corner for focusing with the regular grip and would LOVE to use bottom right when using the battery grip (I know. This is incredibly niche)
@bosiefoobar keep an eye on your email notifications; I'm going to look into all of this here shortly and report back on everything. :-)

Thank you for the stills only review. if possible can you do a AF test or still review with EF lenses.
@Anjan Singh the AF testing I've done thus far has been with EF glass. I don't own any RF glass at the moment.
Great video! Similar to Gordon’s video on Cameralabs, really like it, even more in depth!
@shonen84 much appreciated, thank you!
3. The EOS R is a body you can rock with for several years still
The release of the R5 to me accentuated the positives and amazing attributes of the EOS R. If you are a stills only person... the R6 doesn't cut it. If money is an issue... the R5 is too pricey. The the EOS is a steal. I can't wait for the price drop on the EOS R.
@Victor Cotto I don't disagree at all! The EOS R will become a STEAL as prices lower. I'll continue to use my R!
Anthony, what a great video, as people have said it's good to hear from a photographer who's using the R5 and R6 to take stills, you covered everything I wanted to hear about the bodies, well done mate.👍
@Ron C I'm happy I could help you out. Much appreciate your comment.
@John Vale do you have an R/RP currently or did you take the plunge on buying RF glass with serious hope of eventually adding a body to the mix??
@@AnthonyToglife no R/RP...sounds backwards right? I wanted to hold out for the next gen mirrorless and so over the last month as the R5 actually looked like it would ship I went ahead and started purchasing the RF glass and a large CFExpress card... traded in all but 1 EF lens and my 5D III to help fund the switch over. Cannot wait for the R5 to arrive!
As someone who doesn't shoot video, and plans to adapt my EF glass I appreciate your perspective.
Thanks!

@Tom m you're so welcome. I'm planning to drop more R5 vids over the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for this great and honest review!
@Lars Kvinge you're most welcome!
@@AnthonyToglife , Good point. I would suspect it's all down to camera sensitivity.
Finally a proper review, thanks!
@Vlad Timofeev much appreciated, thank you sir!
Finally someone puts a themal imaging device ON the camera. Staying below the operating threshold of 104 F is a must. Kudos for using that FLIR
@JohnAllen Magee me and my buddy were just talking yesterday about more FLIR testing. I'm going to do a vid just on FLIR stuff. :-D
@@CuttoothsRoom what do you shoot?
@@AnthonyToglife I primarily shoot land/seascapes. I live in Hawaii and that's always been my bread and butter but have shot most genres to some degree.

Good and honest review! Im using the EOS-R and I'm really happy with it. Its not up to the camera if you capture a good or bad shot anymore.
@Mattias Nilsson I don't know if it was ever up to the camera. ;-)
@@AnthonyToglife Thats true :)
It's beast!
Anthony Toglife thank you, very kind...
Thank you for the great video! I found it informative and helpful :)
Inkognito you won’t be disappointed. I have only one missed shot out of 4 photo shoots so far. I had 3 shoots today and about 800 shots. 2 shoots outdoor and 1 indoors using the 70-200 rf and the 85 rf.
@Inkognito you bet! Thank you very much!
@pianofinger the R5 is a BEAST! :-D
Thank you for this thorough review.
@Sam you're most welcome!
Awesome review my man. Nice job!
@Marcel Lecours much appreciated good sir. Thank you!!
Congrats from Brazil! Nice review!! One more subscriber.
@lurocumo2009 thank you so much! I appreciate your support.
Don’t be humbled. You did a great job...and you deserve the praise. Well done, my friend.
Thank you for this video! very helpful and informative.
@Glenn Cardenas you're most welcome!
Remember stay below 104 F. Do some quick frame grabs in camera. How quick and easy is that to do staying within your style of shooting?
@JohnAllen Magee duly notes. For my style of shooting I'm not concerned about heat whatsoever. BUT, I do want to push the camera to understand its limits so if I'm in a situation where those limits need pushing, I know my boundaries. :-)
Thanks Anthony! Enjoyed this
@Mike Lawson thank you sir! Much appreciated!
dang great review, and always appreciate chapter jumps!
glad to hear the battery life with the old batteries, for stills, isnt horrendous. I just watched a video that was video focussed, and apparently for video, the battery isnt lasting as long as the R body. the reviewer had IBIS off as he was on a gimbal. so its just all the extra beef in the processor I guess?
also... #TeamEVF ;D
@The Fifth Eliot I hope not! I own a lot of LP-E6(N) batteries! ;-D
I been looking for this video, pre-ordered mine for photography as well.
@Big Wyrm I'm excited for you! Hopefully the wait isn't too long.
Great review, Thank You!
@Gary Stanfield much appreciated, thank you!
Thank you, just what I needed. I am really on the fence (shooting on a 5DMkIII right now), especially b/c I have so much EF glass.
@Damien Aristodemo there's something about using a DSLR that I don't think I'll ever move past. :-)
all the adapted lenses ive seen in videos seem to work SUPER well with that canon adapter. I would say see if you can get to a local shop, and try some of your lenses with an adapter on the body! my bhphoto wishlist has an adapter and a 35 and 135 lens from EF in there. but im deep in sony land, so it'll stay a wish list for awhile, lol.
Really great information! Considering getting the R5 but didn't pre-order like you!
Great video. Best of luck with it. :-)
@Shea Deighan Wedding & Portrait Photographer thank you! I'm looking forward to doing my long term review in 6 mos and hope to be continuing the praise!
Nice review, especially in terms of the aspects other reviews doesn't cover, like real World fps, or iso and noise performance
@werexx thank you! Whenever I do vids I always think, "what information would I want to hear about" and I try to talk about that. :-)
Hey Anthony, i’m from Germany 👋 i Wanna say: Perhaps the Most authentic video on RUclips - & Really, i watch much RUclips Videos 😒
Keep going _ Great Job 👍🏼
@chris much appreciated! Thanks for commenting and supporting me. I try to be real, honest, and authentic on my channel. RUclips seems to lack this nowadays, sadly. Hopefully things are better in Germany than they are here in the States.
Thank you for a great review !!
@Marc Chapman you're welcome sir.
Very helpful. Really clearly presented, thank you. New subscriber 😊 I think you turn IBIS off when you use a tripod or if you’re panning.
@Bassbarbie thanks much! Those are both times you generally would turn IS off in general, I tend to turn it off more regularly than most would probably.
Anthony great review man... I'm ordering my glass first little by little then I'll order the body. thanks again for in depth review for photography
@THE CUBAN CHEF how exciting! What glass are you getting? I don't have any RF glass but will be getting some soon, just need to decide what I want to get.
Ill start with 15-35 then 70-200
Hi Anthony, great video and I love your 'keep it real', natural relaxed style. Subscribed right away. 🙂
I downloaded some sample .CR3 files from the R5 and converted them to .DNG files and opened them in Capture One Pro.
