Regarding the 14060 from the early 90’s; almost all I’ve seen have narrow 4s rather than the flat/fat 4s that the later 90’s versions have. Could it be that they changed from skinny to fat somewhere mid-90s?

My first Rolex was actually the opposite experience… bought the 116710ln gmt in 2010 when big watches were still in and felt that the GMT was quite underwhelming relative to my breitling navitimer. Fast forward to 2021 when I got the call for the Batman… that was a really great experience given the demand and market conditions….
Congratulations. I could have got a Batman but I was holding out for a Hulk Sub and then Rolex discontinued after I wetted almost two years for my AD to get it. Then my AD offered me a to good to be true deal on a no date sub and had a miscommunication with a newer employee and sold it to someone else.
Dealing with Rolex A.D.’s is one of the biggest jokes of my life.

Maybe ending the 10% tax free on top of the USD/JPY exchange is a good thing. It'll save me tons on my next Japan trip!

I was in Japan in the spring and couldn't see any price advantage there at all even with the tax rebate. Agreed we were only there a week and as first time I wasn't aware of where to go but overall from what I saw it isn't cheaper to buy watches there. Even GS which surprised me more.
Buying my first Rolex from my AD was a thrill beyond belief. You are absolutely correct, the feeling was sublime. Cheers!
