Cab sim tones from the Fender Tonemaster Twin and Deluxe Reverb Blonde!

  • Initially we wanted this to be a full demo of the Tonemaster amps. However, we feel that the XLR out and built-in cab sim does not fully represent the glorious tones these amps are capable of. Therefore we are considering this video as a demonstration of the tone the amp produces through the built in cab sim and XLR out. We will do another video mic'ing them up properly so you can really hear what the amp does in conjunction with the speaker!

Thanks for the great demo video. Really well done. I recently picked up blonde Deluxe Reverb Tonemaster. It's an incredible amp. The other guitarist in my band has a 1966 Deluxe Reverb, and when we're playing with the band you can't tell them apart at all. (You can a bit when they're on their own). It's a joy to play, and an incredible joy to transport - as light as a feather. Thanks for the superb video.

I have heard by other users that they modeled the amp with the bright cap sound. Where older tube units do not compare tonally to that. Some have stated that is a turn off. Also have heard that the tremolo is hard to dial in on the Tonemaster. I feel that the older units have a more lived in tone due to age and that can be hard to capture for a new unit , let alone a digital unit. I have researched a lot on the Tonemaster and recently bought the Blonde Twin and in my opinion it’s a winner. Thanks
    For the video.

I’ve been using TM Deluxe for a year. It’s great!! It’s important to me that it only weighs 23 pounds. I use a Fulltone OCD pedal when I want a high gain sound. Love the reverb and tremolo effects.

Another way you can play at night is by using the xlr out and turning “mute” on. It completely muted the speakers but still lets you record the cab sims. Amazing since I stay in a small apartment and work late nights.

I just got my blonde DR time master on Monday, and Gigged with it Wednesday and Thursday on 2 different stages with 2 different bands. I’ve found the 12 watt attenuator setting to be plenty loud even set up between bass and drums. I even tried 5watts for a few songs with good results. These were both on stages with good monitors. On The first gig they took the XLR out, using the no cab sim option, and on the second gig the sound company put a 57 on the speaker. I didn’t get to hear how it sounded in the house, but did get compliment on the sound, and the stage sound was good. I do have complaints however, there is a Woofy, boomy, too much bass sound that I’m not liking. I had no choice but to turn the bass all the way down, leaving the tone sounding thin. I don’t know yet if is duel to the speaker, the cabinet, or the modeling itself, but I’ve heard other reviewers make the same remarks about low end woofyness. My other complaint is the lack of a mid range knob. I want to be able to pull the midrange down a few db and can’t. So the real Tube Deluxe Doesn’t have a mid knob, but seeing that this is an update, how difficult would it have been to include another knob in the tone circuit. Besides, the TM Twin Reverb Does have a mid knob. Also the lack of an EFX loop is unfortunate. I have a feeling that if enough people complain there may be another version released in a year or so with updated hardware.
I’ll be using it live again This coming Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, so I’m curious to see how it will sound after I’m more accustomed to the amp….DH

I have the black ToneMaster Twin. I'm fairly satisfied with the tone from the speakers. The cabinet sim is much better on these. While that may be important to all the recording fanatics it's of little use for me. I use a Telecaster and also Pedal steel guitar. I have a Deluxe Reverb reissue for tube tone plus 2 old Twin reverbs. They sound better but not by much.

Ok, OK! I think I finally figured it out! So, you connect the amp via XLR cable to an audio interface then connect interface to mac "ipad?? maybe: then record audio AND video separately then sync them up in post? Is that right?

There have been a couple software updates available (at least for the original, black Tone Masters) which tweak removing the virtual tone cap and alter the reverb a bit.
Not sure if the reverb adjustment updates are also available on the blonde versions, but I believe it may be the case.

Based on what I have read/seen, the firmware that the Blonde version ships with includes the bright cap clip and reverb fix. Upgrading the black version's firmware will align to the Blonde version, but will obviously still leave you with the Jensen Neo speaker, rather than the Celestion Neo Creamback

  • @mattgilbert7347

These are so expensive in Australia. The TM Blonde DR is $1500.00!
A Boss Nextone Stage is only $600.00 and sounds better imo.
The Blondes are definitely the best of the TM. Normally I prefer brunettes...
If I start playing again I'm probably getting a Nextone. Having an effects loop is a big selling point, and no latency because the Nextone are solid state with "tube logic" as opposed to the TM all-DSP approach. That's no biggie if just using one amp, but a wet/dry rig with a small valve amp and a non-valve amp like a Nextone (or even one of the Roland JC series because amazing chorus!) is the Way.
Having said all that I really liked what I heard in this demo. Well done, cheers.

@@knockitofff Agreed. With solid pine cabinets and premium stock speakers, I think these versions actually feel more premium than the tube versions, which have ballooned in cost, by the way, because of inflation. No doubt the fact that tubes are mainly made in Russia and China doesn't help the cost of tube amps. I've always thought that digital amps had promise, but they were held back by the speaker drivers and cabinets being mediocre. Here, they really went all out in giving you a truly great speaker cabinet to go with a really good circuit, and we get an amazing result. I wouldn't recommend this particular one, but the Twin Reverb at $1049 is honestly a bargain.

    • @stevwills1445
      @stevwills1445 2 года назад

      The common old timer mentality
With old amps with no mid knobs is that, if you find that you are missing mids, turn the volume up and then lower bass and treble. By turning the volume up, you would have essentially brought the mids louder.
At least that's what the old timers say xD.
I have just bought this amp and it sounds really good. I have yet to practice with it and a band, but i have no doubt it will work.

@@keithclark486 well I don't think it invalidates my whole comment lol, i answer two questions.

I've basically got a whole collection of Fender Tone Master digital amps at this point. Basically, I would say that while this amp does make me quite happy, I honestly wouldn't recommend this particular amp. It's great, but the Tone Master Twin Reverb just offers you so much more. It's only like 10% more in cost, only a couple inches bigger, and still only about as heavy as a tube Princeton Reverb. You get a bright switch and mid knob on both channels, and that makes the amp surprisingly versatile. I don't agree that you can dial in mid boosted sounds by cutting treble and bass. It doesn't work like that on a tube Deluxe, and it certainly does not work that way on the TM Deluxe. With the Deluxe, you either like the sound it has, or you don't; you never really dial out its character. Same with the Super Reverb, by the way. With the Twin Reverb, however, you can make it sound surprisingly un-Fender if you turn the bright knob off and dial in a lot of mids. It can sound super rich and creamy if you want.

Most important to remember the volume knob affects the reverb- if you are using a low power level, 5 watts, 1 watt, or .1 watts, then set the reverb mich lower. On full 22 watts I leave reverb on 3, but on 1 watt setting I use reverb on 1.5
