Bill is doing a lot of rehabilitation on his image, but his show is terrible now. He's become Fox News-lite on Fridays. Max should've done us a solid and cancelled him for somebody younger and more thoughtful.
I've watched him since "Politically Incorrect" and he's always presented like he knows and has NO idea most of the time. Bold Ignorance. He plays well to the Dunning Kruger crowd, and his audience is filled with people who force laughter at the most unfunny jokes, to drive others to laugh.
He would do well to follow his own advice. Don´t be TRIBAL. He couldn´t be more Tribal with regards to Israel/Gaza. He has not once even mentioned the massive death toll in Gaza while week after week he repeats his unconditional support for Israel which he calls a non-apartheid state and the killing of civilians and children is not genocide in his eyes. I´ve been watching him ever since Politically Incorrect, never miss a show, but lately his TRIBALISM saddens me and even shocks me.
Maher is not an extremist. He’s an open minded person and calling everything as it is. Right now, extremism is plaguing both sides of every issue. Refreshing to see a champion in the media rising above it all. Bravo!
I find him to be very closed-minded. His views are somewhere between the WSJ and WP, which is a very narrow set of opinions in the grand scheme of things!
Propping up the right while pretending to be on the left seems awfully extremist. He supports the Palestinian genocide campaign. That's awfully extreme. His grift is to gaslight progressives as extremists because of where they sit on a political spectrum for the purpose of making $. What's extreme about higher wages, free health care & free education? It's fine to disagree, but presenting progressives as 'crazy' or 'extreme' is extremely dangerous in this current political zeitgeist.

I’ll take Jon Stewart over Maher any day of the week. Stewart recently called out so-called comedians complaining about “woke” supposedly ruining comedy, and the dig was directly for Bill.
No matter who the “dig” was directed at, it was convincing and humorous only for those in the bubble to the Left. I cannot believe Stewart participated in that recent documentary on George Carlin. Shortly before his death, Carlin commented on the rise of woke illiberalism: “I saw it coming from the Right, but I never saw it coming from the Left.” Carlin would be ashamed of the “speech is violence” ethos on college campuses and selective irony-impairment of comedians-turned-ideological-panderers like Jon Stewart, John Oliver, etc.
@@StevenBaker-f8n it’s funny how you say “selective irony comedians like Jon Stewart and John Oliver” when Maher does it more. I don't have any problem with who he brings on no matter how revolting. That said, if he does have these right wing liars on, he has to at the very least push back. No expert or authority knows more than Maher. Don't dare to appear to know more than him. His ire is clearly visible. No make believe Mr. Nice Guy. His 2 guests last week engaged in a bash the left session that Maher sat out for the most part. It was ridiculous. The only redeeming facet to me about Maher is he has maintained his opposition to Trump. I wonder if his ego would allow his studio audience to not be allowed to interfere constantly with applause. It throws the rhythm of the show off frequently and the guests have to attempt to speak over the clapping. It is just unnecessary. Maybe he will get it as guests don't want to appear. But, Maher is so full of himself and his wealth. I used to love his show, but it is no longer must see tv for me.

Bill Maher complained that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert promoted a "false sense of equivalency between the left and right" because their "Rally to Restore Sanity" occasionally mocked ONE liberal commentor (Keith Olbermann) amidst all the conservatives they mocked. In other words, Maher thought those two were too balanced and too friendly to conservatives. I am NOT interested in what Bill Maher has to say.
No one is right or wrong all the time. If you cant debate on the facts and face people you disagree with in a professional manner then you are part of the problem.
This dude still talks about the Russia collusion story like it was real which proves he doesn't think critically enough to have an opinion people should hear
"Don't be tribal." Nice concept to aspire to, but I consider that a losing game in the end. Humans are somewhat tribal by their very nature. We group together and we find out who we are by learning who we are not. It's language, culture, religion, shared experiences, and a whole bunch of other stuff cobbled together over literally thousands of years. Good luck trying to phase that sort of thing out anytime soon.
Tribalism is lessening though. We used to be in literal tribes. Then city states. Then states. Then countries. We used to care a lot more about one's race or religion. Now not so much. The boundaries that divided us are starting to fade. That's why recent movements to put us back into boxes like our sex, sexuality, race, religion etc are a step backwards. Really we should be shedding these needless labels.
Tribalism is the antithesis of critical thinking. And as long as our “vaunted” higher level institutions (Ivy League) are not teaching C.T. we’ll continue down that polarizing path.
@@dragonrings14 I can appreciate that sentiment, but I think the whole "In Group, Out Group" paradigm is too appealing for most people to let go of. A lot of people see humanity as divided between "us" (In Group) and "them" (Out Group), where "they" are a threat of some kind to "us", and we must be forever vigilant of whatever "they" are up to, because "they" obviously mean us harm in one form or another. Whether it's tribes, city-states, kingdoms, empires, democratically-run countries, or what have you, much of our species is somewhat tribal-minded, whether on the grounds of race/ethnicity, religion, nationality, biological sex, or whatever other defining feature. We simply cannot help ourselves, generally speaking. Individuals may be able to rise above such relatively petty differences, but not massive groups, at least in my opinion.
@@LeeSchiller See, some would say that teaching CT (assuming you're referring to Critical Theory) is inherently polarizing, especially if it's Critical Race Theory. There are plenty of white people who hear that and think "Here we go, time to blame white people for literally EVERYTHING bad, either in America or around the world!" It makes them instinctively shut down and dig themselves into a foxhole or a hardened bunker. Calls for unity and coming together are all well and good (or at least they FEEL good), but when you get into the nitty-gritty details of broader power dynamics throughout entire societies, then eventually you're gonna have a person or an entire group to point the finger at and say "It's HIS fault this bad thing happened!" or "It's THEIR fault this bad thing happened!" And that leads to the "In Group, Out Group" paradigm taking form, at least in my opinion.

Bill Maher represents the sensibility of a political party I would rather we have.
Bill is doing a lot of rehabilitation on his image, but his show is terrible now. He's become Fox News-lite on Fridays. He supports the corporate mindset, that's why he's not getting invited to parties. His COVID arguments are the same.
Totally agree - he's unwatchable at this point.
You've watched him for over 20 years but you dislike him? Are you a masochist?
What main issue do you disagree with him on.....as a Democrat...
It's astounding, does he only watch FoxNews?
I do enjoy when he has his one on one with people of different views both sides need to hear both sides

I admire Bill Maher for his intellect, sarcasm and quick tongue.
I believe that he has made real progress in putting himself in the shoes of both of America's political parties.
I appreciate Bill Maher's humor and honesty.
I appreciate his willingness to sell out his principles for money. Masquerading as a Democrat to demonize progressives to promote the right-wing agenda is a wonderful grift if you don't care about inflicting damage on society. Holler Dollar Bill Maher!

Not really unique at all. He's just the old man on the porch yelling at everyone to get of his lawn.
Not really. I take it you only listen to people you agree with.
Hilarious? Is this based on the forced laughter from the studio audience? Maher has gotten increasingly bitter and when the material doesn't land he predictably blames it on the audience.
I don't buy his "I'm for the normies." His "normies" is not the the majority. His normies live in a different world that doesn't have to deal with the real world. He loves to sit and drink his $100 a shot drinks and smoke his $25 a piece cigars.
I hate politics, but Bill Maher at least makes it funny for people like me.
Bill Maher has been expert on getting to Heart of matters with his shows humor and sharp wit. Well Done Chap ! 🏆
I’m a former Republican, independent voter/Never Trumper, so I don’t buy his bullshite about not hating the other side. I don't have any problem with who he brings on no matter how revolting. That said, if he does have these right wing liars on, he has to at the very least push back. I watched how Steve Bannon, and Russel Brand spewed all kinds of propaganda without proper pushback from Bill. Sometimes He tries too hard to prove his point of allowing anyone on and he forgets his job is to make them answer for their lies. That said, I think he's very talented. I like him, and I love the show. I think the show is a great idea, and it's not soured for all these years. Good for Bill.
He clearly has no morals. He only cares about the money and the fame.
"Liars" are not only found in the right wing. The "progressives" claim to be "saving democracy" by shutting down speech they don't like, legislating from the bench, and regulating through government agencies rather than Congress.
Of course I'm sure you have no problem with left wing liars that come on his show and how he doesn't push back on them either. At least he's allowing both sides to be heard.

"Don't be tribal."
Nice concept to aspire to, but I consider that a losing game in the end. Humans are somewhat tribal by their very nature. We group together and we find out who we are by learning who we are not. It's language, culture, religion, shared experiences, and a whole bunch of other stuff cobbled together over literally thousands of years. Good luck trying to phase that sort of thing out anytime soon.
The media shouldn't be tribal, it should be the facts
