Glad to see they continued the quad turbo after BMW discontinued it. The numbers are exactly the same. I would be surprised if they did anything to software or hardware. Weirdly enough it is the only car Alpina uses this engine for as the D5S has the older tri-turbo engine.
If you up shifted into 8th gear how much faster would it go ? After 4,500 rpm in 7th gear the power has dropped from 388hp to 330hp and you lost 150lbs of torque. 8th gear at 270kph is 3,800 rpm with full power and much more torque.

im scared alpina will kind of turn into what amg is turned into. used to be performance cars but now amg is just stuck onto everything other than the base model of mercedes. don't want the same to happen to the alpina name.
I agree I understand why they always do these huge wheels but my German logic prevents me from understanding how it's possible for other Germans to do such a thing as inefficient & counter-productive in achieving maximum comfort in their vehicles sidewalls this skinny do not yield comfortable results.

Massive BMW fan here, owned 5 in my last 6 cars. This thing is horrible. I never got the Alpina love, the classic Alpina wheel design is so over rated. They are boring. The car is so ugly, too big, too heavy, too expensive.

I had the chance to testdrive a D5S with this fantastic engine in comparison to a B5. The engine-response of the D5S was much better than of the B5.
these Alpina vehicles i wish we got here in the US...we only get the xb7 and b8...wish we got the whole range...

The RHD probably has a different engine because the steering components take up space of where those 4 turbos would be.
