A knock-off is a counterfeit product, it is not the same as unlicensed. If someone in China were to make fake Mini GT models and tried to sell them as the genuine article, that be a knock-off. Knock-offs are usually a cheaply made or less good copy of a popular or high quality one - fake Rolex watches being one we all know. Unlicensed is when you don't get permission from a car manufacturer to use their copyright that is intellectual property. A while a go, a British diecast manufacturer called Corgi released a LA Sheriff Department helicopter. In no way was Corgi's helicopter cheaply made or a knock-off of another diecast manufacturer's product. The problem was, Corgi did not think to get a license from the LA Sheriff Department. All of Corgi's helicopter models were confiscated when they arrived in America. I'm not saying what the unlicensed brands is right in what they're doing because - Rexy ain't happy about it. You do need to be clear in what is a knock-off and what is unlicensed. You can still have unlicensed models that are better in quality and accuracy than licensed ones - it's just legally, they maybe in the wrong.
Don't forget that TSM and Spark have also made 1/43 scale versions of Rexy! And they are amazing. Right now, TSM (1/18, 1/43, and 1/64) are making the GT3R variant. While Spark (1/43 and 1/64) has been making the GT3 RSR variant of Rexy. And Hotwheels.. well, they do whatever they do 🤣 I just recently posted a video about licensing in general. I'm so tired of all these unlicensed models floating around.
I received it today and the Roxy is also confirmed and is in preorder now. I'll grab it as well but it looks like we are gonna wait for 4-5 maybe even 6 months for that.
Based on your article, I looked into the brands that you mentioned and found a few sellers on Ebay. I reached out to a couple of them and asked them if they aware about the unlicensed and counterfeit cars they were selling? One of them emailed me almost instantly and asked to to make an offer..I couldn't beleive it.
@modelcarshouston you can face major fines and even get shut down for selling counterfeit products when you have a legit store front. I was just at a show in Houston, TX, and he was telling me about it. Just like with your video, they have people watching out for the fakes. Got secret shoppers, too.
They are promoted for a reason. When they really putting the effort into their casting, they really have great quality and details. But yeah, they fell short on licenses. That's part of the reason why they kept changing names to avoid copyright lawsuit
Now that I have discovered something about you and your business, I am more than fascinated. First, I have to admit that I know little of Houston having never been there, Dallas Yes on business. The fact that you are a retailer, brick and mortar?, I can see why you have a reputation to protect and little sympathy for un-licensed sellers, as you should. Thank you for what you do. We race fans and true collectors support fully licensed products. I apologize if I come across as harsh. I hate those who hoard products for profit. I see people at races, such as the Daytona 24, arrive early and but sequentially numbered hats, to find the lowest numbered, buy for 40.00 and sell for 300.00 on Ebay. I will have never supported speculators and never will. It also annoys me that companies like Mattel create this buying frenzy having chase and extra rare models. But hey, the market is driven by buyers and industry exist for profits. This had kept Mattel and Hot Wheels in business for over 60 years. As you may suspect, I am a huge IMSA, SRO and WEC fan. Since retiring from business about 6 years ago, I attend 8 to 10 races per year and have gotten to know many in the paddocks. I know the most about IMSA, the teams and cars as I attend every event except those in California. Sports car racing in 2nd to none, including F1, INDY and Nascar, in my opinion and the growth in the sport reflects that. Think about the 24 Hours of Le Mans accommodating 360,000 fans. I'm not sure if even F1 ever sees that many fans at any single event. Anyhow, sorry for rambling. Appreciate what you do in and for the hobby we love.
Did you know at Road America they had an AO representative asking for IXO Rexy & Roxy models? The rep said that they were there to either be paid or confiscate the unlicensed models.

IXO may get the AO license eventually, but I don't think they will anytime soon as they already have TSM and Spark making the models. And those 2 brands alone cover 1/64, 1/43, and 1/18
Yo the ken block Porsche with the rexy livery honestly looks kinda good… don’t get me wrong! I wouldn’t buy it because it’s not a licensed product and they don’t have permission, but it looks good lol!
Wild! ruclips.net/video/BPt1ReAvzHI/видео.html They took my iRacing livery design and made diecasts!?!? I redrew that livery from scratch, but also got AO Racing's permission. That is insane! Has my racing number and decals I used in Porsche Club of America Sim Racing.
Now don't get me wrong, license is crucial but it's getting into soy territory. Brands you listed are from Aliexpress and are usually made for different demographic, meaning they won't be in US anyway. Also it's just free advertising, they pasted dinosaur skin over porsche and now it's everywhere. Also many unlicensed brands go into right direction if they get the momentum. Look at CM Model they used to be a knockoff brand. And lastly, if you just follow license, collectors would be missing a lot of amazing stuff. I mean if you love your license stickers that's totally ok, but many people are in for cars, and telling them "look guys this is awesome there is a Porsche license sticker how cool is it" is kinda not it, since license doesn't mean it will be accurate or build with quality. I hope I didn't sound too negative I know it's a content for you.
@@qwerty975 What you call free advertising is actually theft. These knockoff brands are making hundreds of thousands of dollars off of something that belongs to us. That money could have been spent at our store, and maybe even help keep the race program going, or fund more of our free fan-focused efforts.
They can still buy all these unlicensed livery no matter what if they're licensed or unlicensed, a diecast is still a diecast and they're more valuable to them
So we didn't know, but now is clear that we are going to see Rexy in HotWheels and Mini GT, awesome!
Correct
rexxy is a "chase" for hotwheels.
@@Mr_jz_12 Roxy is the chase
@@aoracingusa roxy is? I must be having a mandala effect. Swear it was other way around. Good news that 👍👍
Not just HW and MiniGT, but also Spark some they got motorsport licenses

Good call, title fixed. 👍
Rexy is racking up bootlegs faster than Roxy was racking up penalties this week

I'm also gonna get the 64 Rexy soon coz I just got Spark's Penske and Jota Hertz 963
I can't wait for my Mini GT Rexy and I'm so happy to hear that they will also make the Roxy, I never heard that from anyone before

Excellent and well thought out video. Many people may not realize what they are getting. I can't imagine any retail seller carrying these models.

can;t wait for AO Racing Spike LMP2 Dragon

Probably will be released later by sparky

This is what happens when profit takes over passion.
Wild!! 😅😅😅😅 People overseas promote time micro a lot! Most diecast store owners in america found out about Time Micro, and they are dropping them.

There's still way too many US based stores that sell time micro. I don't understand why people like them 💀

Always here for it!
IXO has license ? Because they have both Rexy and Roxy in 1/43 and 1/18 in all the big stores here in EU.
Did you know at Road America they had an AO representative asking for IXO Rexy & Roxy models? The rep said that they were there to either be paid or confiscate the unlicensed models.
IXO does NOT have licensing rights to Rexy or Roxy. Please do not buy their models.
What about IXO models since they've also made models of these cars?
