Throughly enjoyed this Derek and it is pretty wild how far you can really go down the iceberg as well. But Im definitely going to have to check out some of those other brands that I’ve never heard of! Thanks for making this video man! 😎👊🏻👍🏻
I like the Hot Wheels brand and history of it, but with all the scalpers and odds of finding that really special car in Hot Wheels its great to have these other makes that are even better! My main objective is collecting Porsche, I just love the brand. Special BMW's as well I will buy. The Nissan Sky Lines are good as well. These other model companies really kill it with the Porsche so I will be watching this and taking names to hit their websites to buy. Thanks for putting this great video together!!
Hey my pleasure Brad! From one Porsche collector to another, I wish you the best of luck finding some amazing premium 1/64 premium model Porsches. Fortunately there are A LOT to choose from! 😁👍
Hey, this is the first video I have seen by Honest Diecast, but then again, I am somewhat a noob to the diecast collecting having taken a break for approximately forty some years. However, I was likely to subscribe to this channel because this is the first video I've seen that covered diecasts in such a unique style. I'm familiar with the iceberg style of videos that cover various subject matter where most of it lies hidden below the surface of the common. Yet, I have never before witnessed even a pathetic attempt at applying such a documentary style to such a subject as diecast collecting, but I dig it! I was already fairly certain that I would ultimately end up subscribing to Honest Diecast at the conclusion of this video, that is if nothing out of the ordinary should happen between now and then that would completely change my perspective on the narrator, or the channel in general . . . but then upon hearing the narrator is in Arizona, I immediately paused the video to check out the channel's homepage, and to subscribe. I'm in The Old Pueblo, and I will take a guess, based upon odds, that the narrator is likely from the Phoenix area . . . but enough of my babble, I want to get back to the video and see what I can learn.
Hey Thinker thanks for watching! You guessed correctly, I'm in the Phoenix Metro Area but once in a while I'll try to get out to roads less traveled in AZ. Thanks for the kind words, I hope you ended up finding this vid useful! Happy collecting! 👊😁👍
Great video thanks. Just two additions : Pop Race doesn't deserve to come after Mini GT yet (But they're improving). And Tomica Limited Vintage Neo should definitely be on the list on deeper part of the iceberg 👍
Thanks @turgutbir! Yeah many pointed out I left Tomica off the list and I did forget to add them but I also do not have any in my collection. I definitely should have mentioned them though! 😁👍 Also the levels are ordered but not the manufacturers on each level so no worries there! I definitely wouldn't put PopRace ahead of MiniGT and while they are improving, they need a total redesign and approach to their Porsches IMO. 🫤
I'd personally put Kaido House closer to the top of the iceberg because of the scale. When you make cars that are that detailed and artistic, they deserve to be true 1/64 scale. I love all the Chinese unlicensed brands. They make some gorgeous models for pretty inexpensive. My favorite is GFCC with GCD in close second.
Definitely some nice ones. I have several timemicro, TPC, Inno64, INNO64-R and they are definitely beauties. I almost ordered that apple Porsche a few months ago, I probably should have 😂👍✌️
Yeah James you certainly have taken the dive into premium diecast for sure! I'd highly recommend that Apple RWB PGM. Probably the nicest and best diecast model in my collection. 👊😉👍
Did you intentionally leave Tomica Limited Vintage out because you don't collect it, or you just forgot completely? In my opinion, they're one of the best in replicating real cars in 1/64 scale. Maybe the cars they choose aren't considered cool by many, but I do enjoy seeing normal everyday cars being represented
@@huy7573 that's exactly it. I neither have experience but I also forgot. I definitely would have placed those on a lower level if I remembered via pictures. I knew I forgot a good one even though I personally don't have any. 😢
Tomica is kind of falling into irrelevancy. With the rise of resin 1:64’s which provide much better detail and realism for a slightly higher price, Tomica is really showing it’s shotcomings. Shortcomings that naturally occur with diecast (aka less sharp more blobby/rounded bodies), and defects that are Tomica specific like large panel gaps with opening parts, terrible paint quality and the absurd fact you need to glue on the mirrors yourself. The fact Tomica seem hesitant to fix these problems and lower their prices show that they are the dinosaur among all 1:64 brands and will fade into history with time.
@@Jules-oc3pv Not anytime soon lol. Tomica Limited Vintage diecasts are just well built, well executed and their QA is second to none. They all roll like a greased pig down a lubed water slide... plus the functional suspension is just the cherry on the top. For people who like to handle their cars (not PLAY with them, but setup dio's or just move them around or what have you..) TLVN's do not fall apart like resins. Resins are like going to a strip club, look but dont touch.... while metal castings are for those who like to touch lol. Plus resins over the years tend to deform due to several factors if not stored properly. Having said that they are not perfect, but I've been hearing TLVN haters say they are going bankrupt soon yet they still sell out.
I can't find much in Baltimore. Hot Wheels Scalpers will pick 1 car out of all the sets, making it hard to find a complete set. Forget finding TH's, they wait around the stores like creeps at a playground for them fresh boxes....
@@HonestDiecastYeah I really enjoyed the video annd. I'm in need of some help... I need to order some higher quality diecast with open hoods and details, but in a decent range... Have you got any suggestions for me?
@@chinmayshah4453 let's see, opening parts and cheap. Kaido House is always a win in that area and range around $20-$25 on average. Time Micro is a great choice too, I absolutely love their R34 GT-R's and they're about $30-$40.
@@HonestDiecast yeah, I added one or two of those to my list, what about in porsches and mazdas. Absolutely loved the pink r34 and the orange mazda I think it was
I'm waiting for muscles in those scales..... already been eyeing up Cudas in 1/18 and other muscles but ACME and company are not that widely available and rarer lol.... until then i've already ordered 2 Pop Race, with Tomytec in 64
@@HonestDiecast yeah pretty exciting, i've been getting more myscles from GL, AW and JL while I wait for those guys to bring their products! I've ordered 15 cars until now lol..... need more 64s!
Good thing i got the Fuelme 1:64 Shop 4 Fun Philippine Exclusive RWB 993 Ark Angel, i also went to RWB Manila to sign this to Akira Nakai and the Owner of Ark Angel Angie King. I didn't manage to get a sign to the main investor of RWB which appeared in the RWB Manila. I can't wait for them to make Fuelme RWB 993 Victoria Version 2 Time Attack. I hope Fuelme should make the RWB 997 specially Ayanami, Raido and Murasaki the Safari style RWB another Angie King RWB build.
Im assuming you have not got a Mini Turbo yet cause if you did it would be in your list for sure. You must try Micro Turbo 1:64 they're perfect in my opinion.
For sure, there are many great Micro Turbo cars I haven't gotten yet but a great brand for sure! I'm lucky enough to have the Hoonipigasus Hauler from Micro Turbo and it's an amazing piece for sure! A slip of the mind I missed that brand but thank you for the reminder! 👊😁👍
No thoughts on them Tyler because I don't have any experience with them. If they're a Johnny Lightning product then there's no doubt they are a great quality and scale model. 👊😁👍
You may have forgot to mention them or I missed the part when you did but you should check out BM creations, they make really good 180sx, they come with interchangeable bumpers, sideskirts, wheels and all!
One brand not mentioned is ertl/ toy. It is not too common but for farmer types, their tractors and other farm related items are popular. I would say it is somewhere below the iceberg line at some point. I have a number of them these and find them interesting. They look like they close 1/64, but like any other company, this rule can be broken at times.
@HonestDiecast no problem. I'm just pointing this brand for those either are new to the hobby or for that are collecting it already already. For some, this is there hotwheels or matchbox.
Lovely review, thanks for sharing. No doubt, PGM is top tier in diecast. I'm not a resin fan or collector. Just one disagreements. Focal Horizon quality is questionable. I have seen 2 youtube reviews where one had the right rear caliper facing the wrong direction; the other review had a very noticeable fault with the strut for the rear wing. Their paint jobs are absolutely wonderful, but quality isn't consistent. TimeMicro is da bomb!! Have one of their Skyline R34 Z-tune in Chameleon color and everything about it is fantastic!! A few brands were missing like GCD and Minichamps, but hey the video is already 49 mins long😅.
Thanks so much Rom, happy you found it useful and yeah I can't believe I missed so many brands. It was bound to happen though! 😄 As for FH I'm sorry to hear about the experiences on those or at least the reviews. I haven't been subject to those kind of defects or errors but I'm thankful I haven't. 😁🤞
I’d like to know where you think hobbyists, dare I say, artists who customize their cars fit in because that’s what drew me and my Fiance and many of my internet friends in. The combined influence of Gaslands, Gaslands UK’s car of the month competitions, Jakarta diecast project, arise Lightspear, the various third party wheels, printed engines body kits interiors and diorama accessories. Also car themed artists online especially kyzhyl saleem aka the kyza, Al Yasid, Bradbuilds, and especially Damon Moran and Fernando Corea. My mom and my brother used to collect beanie babies based on what they found most endearing not what was considered the most valuable FWIW. I have a small number of miniGT’s. I like Tomica’s mainline and premiums. I don’t really have a need for TLV. I have exactly one MiniGT Kaido house car so far. Collecting just to accumulate doesn’t make sense to me and my circle.
Hey Jon! I'm a huge supporter of customizers and I customize as well! I feel it is a very underrated aspect to the hobby, however some folks are so gifted in their craft that customs are getting a much bigger audience as of late. 👊😁👍
Let’s just say, looking at a hot wheels version of the same car compared to a matchbox match. I would say the quality of the hot wheel mainline is just a smidge better than the matchbox mainline. A lot of matchboxes come damaged so their quality control isn’t very good scratched scuffed paints, bent axles from the factory axles way too long. In my opinion hot wheels does the best when it comes to wheels and axles hands down they just roll like butter out of the blister matchbox are kind of sloppy, but I love them both. I have both in my collection.❤
I love Inno64 but I personally think their R33's missed the mark because of that 'eyeliner' on the headlights. Focal horizon do a much nicer version imho.
I agree that that's the general consensus but there are other options such as buying sets and cases from distributors. Saves a lot of headache and perhaps money as well (spending money on gas). Most of these distributors sell for retail which is great. 😁👍
Antonio, I mentioned them in the JL/AW/GL section but I don't recommend them because of the hit and miss quality control of them. I also don't collect them. 👊😁👍
I understand and respect the concept behind this breakdown, but it left much to be desired. Hot wheels without a doubt has to be tip of the iceberg, yet there should be some mention to Maisto(Adventure Force, Bburago) and Majorette(Norev). Especially if they have been their direct competition and given HWs a reason to be on their toes. Maisto although of lesser quality is more accurate than mattel brands. Yes they are typically on larger scale, but HW and Matchbox have no room to talk on that aspect. So I brushed that off and continued watching, but No Tomica(TLV)?! How? Tomica was at the cusp before Mini GT. And as I do agree Mini GT and Company have earned the respect, Tomica also paved the way at one point and continue to impress to this day. The last disappoinment which was the final straw and realized I Couldn’t restrain from commenting was leaving out kyosho. Kyosho were the pioneers, and to not even have an honorable mention is pollution to the diecast community. I feel very confident stating that all these new brands(LCD, Stance Hunter, PGM, Etc.) resin or diecast definitely were inspired by kyosho(Dydo). I was lured by the algorythm and title of this channel. “Honest Diecast”, very bold. As a long time collector i have to admit this may been a marketing strategy. But i can tell by this video that you are a new collector(less than Five but more than one? ) at the end it is your very biased, personal take but naming a channel of the caliber only welcomes the challenge to agree to disagree. TO EACH THEIR OWN. Here are more diecast brands, some long gone but still accessible on ebay: Minichamps, AutoArt, RMZ, Welly, LCD, JKM, Grani and Partners(711), CMS, Era car, Cars lounge just to name a few.
I'm disappointed to hear this vid didn't meet your expectations Victor. Perhaps I should have clarified that my main goal was to stay within my personal experience and to brands that I actually have in my collection. I mean how can I give an honest and fair assessment to models that I don't have or have no experience with? The only exception to that in this video is Aoshima which I do have experience with but do not have any in my personal collection. As far as how long I've been collecting that would be 7 years. While you are correct that HotWheels may or may not be 1:64 exact, I intentionally left brands such as Majorette and Jada Pink Slips off because they are undoubtedly larger than 1:64 (many have stated 1:58). Tomica is a great brand and so is Kyosho. Matter of fact all the brands you've listed are great, especially Minichamps which I do have and strive to get as far as some older Porsche castings. But one thing I also see in your comment is that you are listing many brands that are undoubtedly popular in Europe and overseas markets and not quite as much in the US (Burago, Norev, even Majorette while available are not quite as popular for collectors in the US as overseas markets. Perhaps my manufacturers are too mainstream and for that, I happily refer you to my good friends Daan (Diecast Dude) and David over at Twyce Diecast who will cover those brands much more in depth than I possibly could As stated in the video and here in comments, I am human and have forgotten some models and may be unavoidably biased to some manufacturers do to my collecting preference and standards/desires for what I want in a model in my collection. However a marketing assumption is a bit overboard as I am not affiliated or partnered with any manufacturer. Or if you were referring to my channel name I accept that questioning and reply that my name is based off of honest collecting in the name of the hobby and love of the cars (rather than being a reseller for example where money is the main drive) but also to give my honest opinion (see PopRace segment in this video or any Diecast Discussion livestream). I tried to be as unbiased as possible even though favoritism was somewhat inevitable and I also tried to cover as many manufacturers on the spectrum as possible. While you were kind enough to give me a lot of feedback (mostly negative), allow me to return the notion. You shouldn't turn it personal by accusing my channel or my name to be of marketing purpose just because you didn't see the brands you wanted to see on this video. As long as Im breathing, I have a chance to collect those models and give reviews in the future which I will certainly consider thanks to your post here. Don't take it personal that I didnt mention those brands as once again first hand experience, collecting preference, and simply forgetting them is all a factor. As a matter of fact, you may want to check the post I pinned here in the comments and you will see most of the manufacturers you mentioned are probably located there. I appreciate the feedback! 😉👍
@@HonestDiecast Thanks for the time to even reply! Since you took the time to reply, I also took the time to watch some your vids, def. got a solid community, congrats. The thing about my feedback, I was criticizing what was left out vs what you included. I do see the potential of the video, nothing wrong with what you included. The initial impression felt more dictating vs how you are now explaining. Probably would not have the response if I had just heard you introduce it as more of a personal approach as to “this is the diecast iceberg”. Also keep in mind I had Honest Diecast in back of my head, which I was like so is everybody else dishonest? lol As a collector I am still boggled how those three I named were left out, but at the end it is just superficial. To clarify never took it personal, I am actually not a big fan of tomica, but I respect their prescence. But if collectors see majorette of larger scale, than I hate to disappoint mattel collectors. If you have the two HW versions of the ‘20 and 21" toyota gr supra you can easily see they are of two different scales. Stock version is almost 1/4 in. larger than the one with the wing. How? Such small detail but it sucks I can't get passed the idea it is not true 1/64. I have hundreds of kyoshos for the same reason that they have delivered to my expectation. They were truely ahead of their time. Only been one car in question Jaguar xjr-15. What can I do they are the only ones so far to produce it. About the name of channel, did not take long seeing some of your videos it was against scalpers? I get it. just seemed and honestly(lol) still seems bold. At the end not everyone is honest. the name almost challenges the viewer to find something to pick at. That is where i was going with that, that. Good marketing (engaging) strategy. Anyways, congrats again on your channel. Looks like Porsche is the specialty here. Hope no one is grading these essays. sheesh
Nick you can find them on Ebay, just type in "Time Top R34 GTR". You're not gonna find very many of the carbon at all but you'll see the green one starting to pop up. 😁👍
That's a fantastic idea Christopher, I'd need to invest in some 1:18 and get some experience with some. A vid in every popular scale would certainly be sick for sure! 💯

Nice Bcrisp! Thanks for the kind words and I'm happy you enjoyed and found this insightful! 👊😁👍
Throughly enjoyed this Derek and it is pretty wild how far you can really go down the iceberg as well. I definitely agree that most people stick with just Hotwheels but for me they just really don’t do it for me anymore at least the mainlines don’t. But Im definitely going to have to check out some of those other brands that I’ve never heard of! Thanks for making this video man! 😎👊🏻👍🏻
My pleasure Jake! Hopefully others look into the premium brands as well! 👊😁👍
One of the best reviews!!! Thank you 👊
Thanks a lot Steven, I really appreciate that! 😁🙏
Also the levels are ordered but not the manufacturers on each level so no worries there! I definitely wouldn't put PopRace ahead of MiniGT and while they are improving, they need a total redesign and approach to their Porsches IMO. 🫤
great information, my first actual hotwheel or 1:64 model is kaido house evasive nsx and here i am buying ff models and some miniGt and other brands
Nice Marlon! Hope you enjoy, and keep an eye on both MiniGT and Kaido! They both crank new models frequently! 👊😉👍
@@christiannakamura1187 GCD is certainly an amazing brand. I definitely need to get me a few! 💯
The psychedelic Porsche you showed is badass man
Thanks J! So much good stuff out there I forgot a bunch but happy we're covered what we could! Thanks for watching broham! 😁🙏
Schuco! I really love their porches. I have 2 on order.
Fantastic Porsches! The Schuco/Tarmac Collabs are really good as well. 👊😉👍
My favorite diecast model I own is a Tarmac Works Porsche 930 RWB in the Apple tampo. It’s a beautifully detailed toy car.
Nice! I have the PGM version of that model and it's definitely the best overall quality casting in my collection. Such an iconic livery. 💯😁👊
Is that the white one with the rainbow stripe?
Great post, thank you Jules! I have to take it all in since I don't have much experience with them but I appreciate that feedback! 💯
Great post @machucast Thanks for your insight as well, much appreciated since I don't have experience. 👊😉👍
That Time Top case is sick!
For real!!! It doesn't get any better than full transparent acrylic. 🤤🤤🤤
I can't find much in Baltimore. Hot Wheels Scalpers will pick 1 car out of all the sets, making it hard to find a complete set. Forget finding TH's, they wait around the stores like creeps at a playground for them fresh boxes....
That's all too common now Shortbus, fortunately there's plenty of options and I hope this vid helps! 👊😉👍
@@HonestDiecastOne time, an Old guy was going to beat me up for looking in a Hot Wheels dump bin. I just order stuff now. Thx for the info!
That's the way to go, sorry to hear about that experience! 👎😡
Hi man, amazing video you have some good information there and it really helped me pick what I wanted to spend my money on
Awesome Chinmayshah! Happy to help and I'm stoked you found this useful and found some sick models in the process! 👊😁👍
Absolutely loved the pink r34 and the orange mazda I think it was
Both Inno64 and Tarmac make some really good Mazdas. My favorite Porsches to collect on a more budget level is definitely Tarmac Works.
Great episode full of info brotha! Not on that Kaido train but nice models for sure!!!!
I'm suprised, I thought you'd like those! Thanks J! 👊😁👍
I'm waiting for muscles in those scales..... already been eyeing up Cudas in 1/18 and other muscles but ACME and company are not that widely available and rarer lol.... until then i've already ordered 2 Pop Race, with Tomytec in 64
Yeah hang in there, I expect to see much more domestic goodies coming from MiniGT and Tarmac for sure. 😁👍
Nice acquisitions! I absolutely love FuelMe Models! 💯
Pop Race > Kaido House > Mini gt > auto world > hot wheels/matchbox > majorette
Imo
Any thoughts on Johnny Lightning/Monaco Class's A diecasts? Very limited production of 5 different motorhome models.
I did t mention those Landon but thanks for the recommendation and I'll definitely need to check those out! 👊😁👍
While I still seek supers I have not been buying everything from mainlines as I have been slimming down my collection. I really enjoy autoworld now.
Nice DP! I've been doing the same, slimming mainlines and making room for premium brands! AW makes a great product, excellent choice! 😁👍
@@steverobsondiecast thanks Steve! This review is just for todays popular car brands so that's why Ertl is left off. 👊😁👍
As for FH I'm sorry to hear about the experiences on those or at least the reviews.
I hear ya Blas! I still like the Inno versions for the stock looking 400R's and the Pandem R33's but the FH R33's add the "spice". 👊😁👍
Man I wish we had US prices over here in Europe. HW premiums are 14EUR here. 30EUR for team transport.
That is crazy! What a testament to the economy! 🤯
You basically won’t get what you want at retail unless you check stores every day. Sucks how it is these days, but that’s the only way.
I agree that that's the general consensus but there are other options such as buying sets and cases from distributors. Saves a lot of headache and perhaps money as well (spending money on gas). Most of these distributors sell for retail which is great. 😁👍
I‘ll stay with HW to save my soul, once you‘ll dive in there‘s no coming back😂
Not a bad choice but man you're missing some great stuff! 👊😄👍
So many hotwheels fans.
Wow no M2 or did i miss it?
Antonio, I mentioned them in the JL/AW/GL section but I don't recommend them because of the hit and miss quality control of them. I also don't collect them. 👊😁👍
In Russia price of RLC much higher, for example I pay for r34 skyline 150$
I bet Vano! $150 is steep!!! That's second hand market I take it? 🤔
As Roman Pierces says to Letty you better hide your baby on
😄
I understand and respect the concept behind this breakdown, but it left much to be desired. Hot wheels without a doubt has to be tip of the iceberg, yet there
should be some mention to Maisto(Adventure Force, Bburago) and Majorette(Norev). Especially if they have been their direct competition and given HWs a reason to
be on their toes. Maisto although of lesser quality is more accurate than mattel brands. Yes they are typically on larger scale, but HW and Matchbox have no room
to talk on that aspect. So I brushed that off and continued watching, but No Tomica(TLV)?! How? Tomica was at the cusp before Mini GT. And as I do agree Mini GT and Company
have earned the respect, Tomica also paved the way at one point and continue to impress to this day. The last disappoinment which was the final straw and realized I Couldn’t
restrain from commenting was leaving out kyosho. Kyosho were the pioneers, and to not even have an honorable mention is pollution to the diecast community. I feel very
confident stating that all these new brands(LCD, Stance Hunter, PGM, Etc.) resin or diecast definitely were inspired by kyosho(Dydo). I was lured by the algorythm and title of
this channel. “Honest Diecast”, very bold. As a long time collector i have to admit this may been a marketing strategy. But i can tell by this video that you are a new
collector(less than Five but more than one? ) at the end it is your very biased, personal take but naming a channel of the caliber only welcomes the challenge to agree to disagree.
TO EACH THEIR OWN. Here are more diecast brands, some long gone but still accessible on ebay: Minichamps, AutoArt, RMZ, Welly, LCD, JKM, Grani and Partners(711), CMS,
Era car, Cars lounge just to name a few.
Perhaps my manufacturers are too mainstream and for that, I happily refer you to my good friends Daan (Diecast Dude) and David over at Twyce Diecast who will cover those brands much more in depth than I possibly could
As stated in the video and here in comments, I am human and have forgotten some models and may be unavoidably biased to some manufacturers do to my collecting preference and standards/desires for what I want in a model in my collection.
Since you took the time to reply, I also took the time to
watch some your vids, def. got a solid community, congrats. The thing about my feedback, I was criticizing what was left
out vs what you included. I do see the potential of the video, nothing wrong with what you included. The initial impression
felt more dictating vs how you are now explaining. Probably would not have the response if I had just heard you introduce it
as more of a personal approach as to “this is the diecast iceberg”. Also keep in mind I had Honest Diecast in back of my head,
which I was like so is everybody else dishonest? lol As a collector I am still boggled how those three I named were left out, but at the
end it is just superficial.
To clarify never took it personal, I am actually not a big fan of tomica, but I respect their prescence. But if collectors see majorette
of larger scale, than I hate to disappoint mattel collectors. If you have the two HW versions of the ‘20 and 21" toyota gr supra you can easily see they
are of two different scales. Stock version is almost 1/4 in. larger than the one with the wing. How? Such small detail but it sucks I can't get passed
the idea it is not true 1/64. I have hundreds of kyoshos for the same reason that they have delivered to my expectation. They were
truely ahead of their time. Only been one car in question Jaguar xjr-15. What can I do they are the only ones so far to produce it.
About the name of channel, did not take long seeing some of your videos it was against scalpers? I get it. just seemed and honestly(lol) still
seems bold. At the end not everyone is honest. the name almost challenges the viewer to find something to pick at. That is where i was going with that, that.
Good marketing (engaging) strategy.
Anyways, congrats again on your channel.
Looks like Porsche is the specialty here.
