Your video just randomly popped up in my suggestions and I am soo glad it did. Love all the things you made ❤️ Great to see so many young people online that love crocheting, makes me feel less weird about loving crochet as a 24 year old 🙈😎

I just started crocheting last year, about 6 months ago now. But when I started I also hurt my hand from the repetition. Have you tried anything for yours? Hopefully you have found some relief but if not I wanted to share some of the things that have helped me. (These could help you or anyone else struggling too) First thing I did was set timers, I had to force myself to take breaks which was really hard bc crochet as been my way to cope with anxiety. I can focus on my project and zone out and forget what’s bothering me, so having to stop usually every 30 min would just make me stressful again. But it did help. Then I got compression gloves supposedly made with copper which is supposed to help a lot, I don’t know if the copper thing is a gimmick or not, but I know compression garments do help a lot of people so I got a cheap pair off Amazon for $9. I can wear it while crocheting but it is a hassle so I usually take it off and wear the glove the rest of the day. I tried a brace as well but that didn’t seem to help. It wasn’t like an injury that hurt if I moved my hand a certain way like a broken bone, my pain is more a muscle ache constantly and got worse when I did crochet motions. On days my hand really ached I would apply Diclofenac, the brand name is Voltaren ( it’s a Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory med). I got the generic off Amazon. It can be a little more expensive if you get name brand but you really don’t use much so it lasts awhile. I also wouldn’t recommend for long term use since it is a medication. I will usually apply once in the morning then put my glove on and if it still hurts I’ll apply again at night. Usually after doing that for 1 or 2 days max, my hand feels much better. Another huge help was ergonomic hooks. Especially in my smaller size hooks. I had started practicing arugurumi and man they use some small hooks for some of those patterns and require fairly tight stitches so my hand was killing me after those. I really like the rubber handled ergonomic kind, Bates brand has some good ones. Or you can get removable handles that you can use on multiple hooks. I would def suggest getting your most used hook size in a good ergonomic handle and maybe try a few brands/styles before replacing all your hooks with the same ergonomic handles. I started with grabbing 1 or 2 hooks when I’d buy yarn online at joanns or michaels. I could test them out, see if I liked that style, and if not you can always return them. The Bates hooks I like actually come in a set on Amazon for under $30 I believe. When I started I got a cheap ergonomic set for $9 off Amazon but I got them bc they were pretty. They clearly weren’t a common brand or made well. Within minutes of using the top of the hook popped off the handle bc it was just glued on. The hook will spin and get loose all the time. The bates hook sometimes starts to slid out of the rubber handle, but the hook is actually a full size metal hook and I can easily push it back in. So yeah, I know I rambled, but I hope these suggestions can help someone. Nowadays we are either glued to our computers or phones and those do enough damage to our hands, add a hobby like crochet and we’re just asking for more pain, haha. I’m only in my 30s and I refuse to let arthritis or carpel tunnel take my hobby away from me. So I am doing my best to implement good habits and tools now and prevent too much damage so I’m not screwed in the future. Working in an office typing all day most of my adult life has already taken its toll. Thanks again for sharing all your projects! I can’t even begin to imagine how warm the granny square & fleece blanket is!

I just started crocheting in March and found that by buying these little gel tubes from the dollar tree have been a life saver. They are meant for children to grip pens and pencils better and you get 6 in a pack. Wind an elastic multiple times around your hook then slide the gel completely over the elastic. Their is not enough room at the top for me if I try using an ergonomic hook

my hand still hurts haha! i try to massage it and i also have tried tension rings but it’s weird. random stuff like washing dishes will aggravate it too. thank you for the suggestions!
